Chapter 3: Mother
byChapter 3: Mom
"Wife?"
Jiang Yu repeated the two words, his mind replaying the scene he had witnessed: the security captain and the older man standing so close together, their chests almost touching.
Jiang Yu let out a sneer. "Two Betas."
Jiang Yu immediately lost interest. He scrutinized the security captain with a picky gaze—an ordinary face, an average build, nothing that caught his eye.
Jiang Yu tossed the pen onto the table. Alphas had remarkable recovery abilities; even though he had twisted his ankle on a pebble earlier and felt sharp pain, it had mostly healed now, enough for him to walk on his own.
Jiang Yu propped himself up on the table with one hand, a wicked smirk curling his lips. The golden earring on his earlobe sparkled brilliantly. "Your 'wife' is covered in the scent of another Alpha. Can't you smell it?"
Jiang Yu drawled, "Ah, I forgot. You're a Beta. You can't smell pheromones."
That low, foul pheromone clung to the old man like a mangy dog.
Normal contact wouldn't cause this. Unless an Alpha had been caressing his body, skin-to-skin contact—that would leave him completely wrapped in pheromones.
Faced with Jiang Yu's provocation, the security captain showed no anger or embarrassment. Either their relationship was so good that he wouldn't suspect his spouse, or their feelings had long since cooled, so he didn't care that his spouse had been tainted by another Alpha.
When the security captain met Jiang Yu's probing gaze, even though he couldn't sense the pheromones, the Alpha's oppressive aura made him tremble. "Maybe he picked it up in a taxi..."
Just as the two were at a standoff, a voice interrupted their conversation. "The uniform is too small. I can't fit into it..."
Cai Gu had thought the student had already left. He lowered his head to adjust his open shirt, noticing that a few more buttons had fallen off when he took it off earlier.
The cramped security booth fell silent. Cai Gu looked up in confusion and found both men staring at him.
He instinctively covered his chest with his hand, his soft hair messy and brushing against his eyelids. "You're still here?"
Jiang Yu's eyes fell on Cai Gu's chest. He curled his lips, his eyes full of disdain and irritation. Leaning back in his chair and crossing his legs, he said, "Because of you, I twisted my ankle. Now I can't walk at all."
The captain got a headache from such a transparent lie, but Cai Gu believed it. He had only just arrived and already injured a student's foot; he worried he might not even keep this job.
The corners of Cai Gu's eyes reddened. He let go of his collar and walked up to Jiang Yu, softening his voice. "Then let me take you to the hospital now, okay?"
A faint fragrance emanated from his open collar. Jiang Yu could vaguely see a Y-shaped cleft. He looked up to meet Cai Gu's gaze, finding his downcast round eyes still clear and innocent.
Despite being so old, he was still acting cute. "Fine, take me to the school clinic. Better take me now. If we delay and my leg becomes permanently fractured, can you afford to pay for it?"
Cai Gu turned pale upon hearing this. "I—I'll help you walk over right now."
"Hus… husband." Cai Gu remembered the fake identity the security captain had made up. "I'll take him there first and be right back. Wait for me, okay?"
Cai Gu was hinting that the security captain shouldn't abandon him.
The security captain's whole body tingled when he was called 'husband'. He cleared his throat to show Cai Gu he understood.
Cai Gu relaxed. He lifted Jiang Yu's hand and placed it on his own shoulder. Facing a student from Noble Academy, he couldn't help but be afraid.
Cai Gu whispered, "Lean on me. Don't fall."
Jiang Yu unceremoniously leaned his full weight onto him. He stood on one foot and raised an eyebrow when Cai Gu didn't move. "If you don't take me over soon, my ankle will get worse."
Cai Gu shot a cautious glance at Jiang Yu's foot. After hesitating, he decided to speak. "I remember you twisted your left ankle."
A hint of pity showed in his eyes, as if he thought the pain had made Jiang Yu confused.
Jiang Yu, feeling rattled, bit the inside of his cheek. He clicked his tongue. "You remembered wrong!"
Cai Gu furrowed his dark brows. With a sigh, he helped Jiang Yu out of the security booth.
It was summer. The blazing sun shone through the gaps in the leaves, casting shadows on them. Leaf shadows fell on the back of Cai Gu's neck. Alphas and Omegas have a protruding spot on the back of their necks called a gland, which releases pheromones.
But for a Beta, this area is smooth; the only visible thing is the bone pressing against the skin.
Jiang Yu's canines itched. He slowly lowered his head, his nose brushing the delicate skin on Cai Gu's neck. Just as he was about to bite down, Cai Gu's words pulled him back to reality.
"Student."
Jiang Yu's red eyes cleared. His chest heaved as he bit the inside of his lip, awkwardly looking away from the back of Cai Gu's neck.
He actually wanted to bite a Beta's neck. And an old man's neck at that.
Jiang Yu, who always held a high status, couldn't accept this fact and blamed Cai Gu entirely.
He was clearly married, and he knew this was a school, yet he still dressed so provocatively, showing off his slender waist and full chest.
And he even showed off the back of his neck!
How infuriating!
"Hm?" Jiang Yu let out a haughty "Hm?", as if even saying it was beneath him.
"Did you break your hand too?" Cai Gu asked worriedly, looking at the hand resting on his shoulder. It was hanging unnaturally, and with each step, his thumb rubbed against the inside of his chest muscle.
That honey-toned skin was already rubbed red.
Cai Gu didn't suspect Jiang Yu. He just thought the boy had also hurt his hand when he fell.
Cai Gu's face was full of worry, wearing the typical expression of his age—oppressed by life, revealing his spinelessness and cowardice.
If this young man's hand was broken too, he would have to pay an extra medical bill.
Jiang Yu snatched his hand back as if burned. He grabbed Cai Gu's shoulder, digging his fingers in. "Don't say anything."
Jiang Yu rubbed his fingertips together, the smooth sensation lingering.
The school clinic wasn't far; they arrived shortly. Cai Gu marveled at how the Noble Academy's clinic was even larger than the hospital near his home.
When the school doctor saw Jiang Yu's condition, he froze. "What happened?"
Cai Gu answered for him. "He twisted his ankle. Please take a look at him first."
Alphas have incredible recovery abilities; a common sprain would heal back to normal in no time.
Needing help to walk meant the injury was serious.
The school doctor nervously led Jiang Yu to a private room to examine the injury.
Cai Gu sat on the bench, listening to the ticking of the clock. After an indefinite amount of time, the doctor finally came out of the room.
The doctor's expression was complicated, with a hint of sympathy in his eyes. "Student Jiang Yu is seriously injured."
This sentence made Cai Gu's muscles tense. After a long pause, he heard his own trembling voice ask, "Then... will he get better?"
The doctor thought of what Jiang Yu had threatened him to say. Seeing the fear on Cai Gu's face, a strange thought crossed his mind: bullying a good person was kind of fun.
The school doctor lied through his teeth: “It can be healed, but it requires careful care. If not taken care of properly, he’ll be a cripple for the rest of his life.”
Cai Gu gasped sharply, his eyes wide open, the drooping corners of his eyes made him look pitiful: “That serious?”
“Mm.” The school doctor feigned seriousness to scare Cai Gu.
“Come in.” Jiang Yu’s voice came from behind the curtain, sounding somewhat distorted.
Cai Gu quickly hugged his satchel and went in. He swayed his hips so much that the school doctor, watching from behind, felt he could wrap his hand around Cai Gu's waist.
When Cai Gu entered, Jiang Yu was lying on the hospital bed with a cast on his foot. He closed his eyes half-dead, yawned wearily, and upon seeing Cai Gu come in, deliberately stretched his leg out in front of Cai Gu: “Hey, did you hear what the doctor said?”
Cai Gu sat on the edge of the bed holding his satchel, pulling a long face to comfort Jiang Yu: “Don’t worry. Just take good care of yourself. You definitely won’t become a cripple.”
Jiang Yu snorted coldly: “The way you talk, it sounds like you want to leave me in the hospital and walk away. Do you know how much this will affect my studies? If I report this to the school, your husband’s job is on the line.”
“Madam, you don’t want your husband to lose his job, do you?”
Sure enough, he still wanted to settle the score with him.
Cai Gu slumped his shoulders: “Then what do you want me to do?”
Cai Gu curled himself into a big lump, sitting obediently and meekly on the edge of the bed. He raised his eyes and looked timidly at Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu stared, his jaw set. In the past, he would have tormented Cai Gu and made his life a living hell, but now Jiang Yu wanted to bully him in a different way: “Take out your phone.”
“Add me as a friend.”
Whatever Jiang Yu said, he did. Only when his phone went “ding” did Cai Gu realize that there was now a new friend in his contacts.
Jiang Yu propped his chin with one hand: “When I tell you to come, you have to come immediately, understand? You have to take me to class, take me back to the dorm…”
Cai Gu felt dizzy and confused, but in the end he could only say “Okay.”
He had no idea how to say no to others, so he could only stare at Jiang Yu with moist eyes.
Jiang Yu felt this was only reasonable. The fact that he had been caught by the security guard would soon spread throughout the academy. Since he had made Jiang Yu lose face in front of his classmates, he deserved to compensate him.
Jiang Yu leaned against the headboard, lifting his chin: “Where’s the meal you were bringing to your husband?”
Cai Gu's brain took a moment to process before he realized. He took out the homemade sandwich from his satchel: “Do you want some?”
Jiang Yu glanced at the sandwich: “You made it? Feed me.”
Cai Gu felt that the young man’s entire body seemed to have been broken from that fall. He sighed and sat sideways on the bed. His bone structure was larger than that of an average Alpha, and his muscular build made him heavier than others.
Originally he looked extremely strong, but as he aged, his muscles had become finer and softer. If you squeezed it, it felt as if it would spill through your fingers.
In Cai Gu’s eyes, Jiang Yu was still a child. Besides, the other party was indeed injured because of him. He unwrapped the sandwich and considerately brought it to Jiang Yu’s lips: “Here, eat.”
He propped himself up with one hand beside Jiang Yu, bending over, his tone was coaxing, as if soothing a child.
What hit him first was the fragrance from Cai Gu—a gentle, light scent that lingered at the tip of his nose.
It was just like the scent on a mother’s body.
