    Chapter 7: Slender Waist

The air conditioning filled the entire office, but it failed to suppress the heat burning inside Jiang Yu. He lay slumped over his arms, Cai Gu’s face surfacing in his mind.

His features weren’t aggressive, matching his build—he had large, striking features with extremely plump lips, covered in a translucent film, almost like lip gloss.

The more Jiang Yu thought about it, the more irritated he became. He didn’t understand why he’d react this way to a Beta, and someone else’s spouse at that.

But such a voluptuous figure, nearly bursting the fabric of his clothes.

Jiang Yu’s breaths quickened, the pungent scent of blood filling the whole office. He clenched his fist and slammed it on the desk.

So good at seducing people—must have been conditioned by that security captain...

Jiang Yu pressed his lips together, making himself angry. His gaze fell on the lunchbox beside him, and at the thought of the trotter soup inside, his eyes turned even redder.

He muttered to himself: “I just want to try it. If it’s bad, I’ll have an excuse to keep punishing him... Right, that’s it...”

After convincing himself, Jiang Yu steeled himself and lifted the lunchbox lid. The trotter soup had already cooled a bit, with a layer of grease floating on top, making it even more nauseating.

Jiang Yu braced himself and took a small bite. “Ugh.”

Despite how awful it tasted, he kept eating while gagging. “How can food be this bad?”

Thinking that Cai Gu’s husband probably ate the same food, the resentment in Jiang Yu’s chest eased a little.

They’d been married this long, and Cai Gu hadn’t bothered to improve his cooking—it showed their relationship wasn’t as good as it seemed on the surface.

    Maybe they’d divorce soon.

While Jiang Yu was eating, Wang Wei pushed the door open and bounded in cheerfully. “Boss.”

He was hit by a wave of strong pheromones, then suppressed his fear and quickly opened the window to air out the room.

Jiang Yu was a rare S-grade Alpha, and his pheromones could overwhelm others.

Wang Wei frowned. “Boss, your pheromones have been flaring up a lot lately.”

After the bloody scent dissipated, he leaned against the desk. “Is your rut coming early?”

Jiang Yu ignored him, still struggling with the trotter soup. His brows were furrowed, but he didn’t stop drinking.

Curious, Wang Wei glanced over and let out a surprised “Huh?” “Boss, don’t you usually avoid this place? Why are you secretly eating trotters without me?”

Jiang Yu paused mid-motion and lifted his eyelids to look at Wang Wei. “Say that again.”

Wang Wei immediately covered his mouth with his hand. “Don’t worry, boss. I won’t tell anyone you’re sneaking trotters. Hey, if you like them, I’ll bring you extra next time... Ow...”

Before he could finish, Jiang Yu kicked him over with his cast-covered leg. “Shut up. Who told you this was bought outside?”

“Huh?” Wang Wei scratched his head in confusion. “No mistake. This is clearly the soup from Ning Ju Lou. Try digging deeper inside.”

Jiang Yu narrowed his eyes, carefully lowered the spoon in, and finally struck something hard. He fished it out with the spoon and saw what it was.

A whole egg, shell and all, printed with four big characters—Golden Legend.

Jiang Yu’s hand shook, and the egg dropped back in. He gritted his teeth, his fluffy short hair practically bristling. Meanwhile, Wang Wei gasped. “Boss, you’re so lucky! I ate for a whole month and never got this golden egg. If you don’t want it, I’ll take it.”

Jiang Yu didn’t bother thinking about why there was a golden egg in trotter soup. Undaunted, he poured a little soup into the lid. “Try a sip. See if the taste is the same.”

He didn’t want to give Wang Wei the soup Cai Gu had brought, so he only poured a tiny bit.

Wang Wei rested his chin on his palm, savored it for a moment, and said decisively, “It’s definitely from Ning Ju Lou. That golden egg has special spices. The owner even posted a notice on the wall claiming it’s original and forbidding copies.”

Jiang Yu clenched his fist and sneered. “Liar.”

    [Shan Yu]: You’re in trouble.

Cai Gu shrank back in fear. He hadn’t expected Jiang Yu to find out so quickly. Sitting on the chair, he bit his lip anxiously.

What should he do? Would Jiang Yu be upset?

Cai Gu deliberated and typed a few words, sending them.

[Cai Gu]: I wasn’t feeling well, so I couldn’t get up this morning. I didn’t mean to lie to you. Please don’t be mad.

    [Shan Yu]: What’s wrong?

After a beat, Jiang Yu added another line.

[Shan Yu]: I’m not concerned about you. Don’t read into it.

Cai Gu frantically thought of an excuse. He rarely lied, and his cheeks flushed with anxiety.

On the other end, Jiang Yu grew impatient. He sent a sticker.

[Shan Yu]: Bear dropping a bomb.jpg.

Cai Gu took a deep breath, knowing he couldn’t delay any longer. His expression turned resolute, as if bracing himself.

[Cai Gu]: My husband and I were up late last night. He’s very strong, and I was a bit sore getting out of bed this morning.

The chat box kept showing “[The other party is typing...]” Cai Gu’s heart pounded wildly, afraid his excuse wasn’t good enough and he’d be seen through.

[Shan Yu]: Were up late? What exactly did you two do? How did he have his way with you?

    [Shan Yu]: Answer me!

After sending the messages, Jiang Yu leaned back in his chair, staring coldly at the phone screen. He smirked. After so many years together, that old man must have completely shaped him into his mold.

[Cai Gu]: You’re a child, don’t ask so much. I’ll cook for you again next time, okay? Don’t be angry.

Jiang Yu pressed his tongue against his cheek, staring at those words for a long time. Then he suddenly smiled, but his red eyes held no emotion.

[Shan Yu]: Fine. Don’t forget, you injured my leg. You have to take responsibility. And during the time you’re taking care of me, no sexual activity with your husband. I don’t want to smell anyone else on you.

Seeing that Jiang Yu was letting it go, Cai Gu patted his soft chest in relief. As for Jiang Yu’s request, he didn’t take it seriously at all—after all, his relationship with the security captain was fake.

    [Cai Gu]: Okay ^O^

Just as he finished calming Jiang Yu down, someone knocked on the security booth door. Before he could get up, the door swung open, and the captain walked in from outside.

Cai Gu immediately rose and stepped aside obediently. Thinking of the lie he’d just told, he dared not look directly at the captain. Although his intention was to protect the captain’s job, lying was still wrong.

The captain saw Cai Gu lowering his head and standing rigidly, so he naturally took his hand and guided him to sit beside him.

Cai Gu’s hands were neither soft nor smooth, but warm and broad, with calluses that rubbed against his palm, sending a tingling sensation through him.

Captain’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he secretly stroked Cai Gu’s palm with his finger.

Cai Gu suddenly pulled his hand away, startling the captain, who was caught off guard. Before he could make an excuse, Cai Gu took a wet wipe from the table and gently wiped the sweat off the captain’s palm.

With a focused expression, he wiped one hand clean, then actively took the other and did the same, saying, “There, all done.”

His expression softened. Catching the captain’s stunned look, he dropped his smile and bit his lower lip nervously. “Did I do something wrong?”

The captain snapped out of it, shaking his head blankly. “No, I just think you’re very attentive. You’d make a great partner.”

Hearing the compliment, Cai Gu lit up with a genuine smile, the faint crow’s feet at the corners of his eyes showing.

The captain’s heart raced like crazy. He suddenly changed the subject. “You’ve fixed this place up nicely.”

The security booth had turned into a cozy space thanks to Cai Gu, filled with a faint scent that smelled just like him.

“I came to talk about work. In a few days, the church will hold a prayer service, so we need night shifts to patrol and make sure no one maliciously vandalizes anything.”

“Here’s the night shift schedule. Since you’re still unfamiliar with the academy, I put us on the same shift.”

The captain had his own motives. A beauty like Cai Gu must have plenty of admirers. He couldn’t show his hand too early. He’d have to warm him up slowly, like boiling a frog slowly, until he could win him over step by step.

“Rest up today. I’ll be waiting for you at the church tonight.”

    *

As the sky grew dark, the vast Yasa Academy fell into silence, broken only by the occasional chirping of cicadas.

Cai Gu tied his shoulder-length hair back, letting it rest on his shoulder. Under his white short-sleeve shirt, his muscles were firm and defined, each muscle clearly defined. The evening breeze ruffled his stray hairs, brushing against his wheat-colored cheeks.

Following the captain’s advice, he had slept well during the day, all his earlier fatigue gone. Thanks to the soothing patch, his wound had healed completely, leaving the skin on the back of his neck smooth and soft again.

Cai Gu looked up at the solemn, majestic church. The gems on it glittered, but after just a few glances, he got dizzy and looked away quickly. He hunched his back and walked toward the back door.

The captain was already waiting at the door. Seeing Cai Gu’s outfit, his eyes lit up. Even in the same uniform, Cai Gu stood out from the other guards. His curvy figure gave him an air of allure.

That slender waist hidden under the short shirt looked like it could be circled by one hand.

“The church’s power will be cut off at night. If anything happens, call me on the walkie-talkie, and I’ll come right away.”

Cai Gu took the flashlight and walkie-talkie the captain handed him. He listened attentively, his curled eyelashes fluttering as he nodded now and then.

He tried to clip the walkie-talkie onto his belt but failed a few times. Finally, he looked down and asked for help, frowning. “Captain, how do I put this on?”

The captain had been waiting for this moment. Feigning calm, he took the walkie-talkie back and knelt on one knee. “No problem, let me help.”

This model had to be clipped onto the belt. Without help, a newbie wouldn't be able to figure it out.

The captain was now just a few centimeters away from the waist he’d been dreaming of. His fingers occasionally brushed against the cloth at Cai Gu’s waist.

Cai Gu was completely unaware. Once the walkie-talkie was on, his eyes lit up. He was about to thank the captain when he heard the man kneeling on the ground mutter under his breath, “Your waist is so tiny.”

Kinda makes me wanna lick it.

Funny enough, there’s a dumpling shop near our school. They sell sesame-sauce dumplings and specifically marked in their delivery app that they were the original creators and all the others were copycats.
