Chapter 8: Murder
byChapter 8: Murder
The church was terrifyingly quiet. The captain snapped out of it, realizing his words were too offensive. He pursed his lips, opened his mouth but didn't know how to explain.
Looking up and seeing Cai Gu's serious expression, his heart sank even more. He sighed regretfully to himself—why couldn't he hold back? When he saw that waist, he couldn't control himself like a dog.
Cai Gu slowly bent down. Just as the captain thought he was about to slap him, he gently hugged his head and then blew on his hair.
The warm wind blew over the captain's head, stirring his hair and blowing off tiny flower petals.
The captain stood frozen still, feeling numbness all over his body, unable to suppress a shiver.
After blowing away the small flowers on the captain's head, Cai Gu picked up the last one with his fingers and gently placed it in the captain's palm: "Look, this is the little flower from your head."
Cai Gu's black eyes were clear, reflecting the captain's image. Seeing the captain sit there motionless, still not reacting, he confusedly waved his hand in front of him: "What's wrong?"
Cai Gu had his back to the light, the light shining on him, making his white work shirt translucent, revealing his athletic build.
Yet his facial expression was so gentle.
The captain instantly felt that his own thoughts were dirty and obscene.
"No." The captain's thoughts were complicated. He stood up with one hand on the ground: "Let's start working."
He carefully put the small flower in his breast pocket.
Their workload was heavy; they needed to patrol the entire church to make sure no one disrupted the Jingzhai Festival ceremony.
The light from the flashlight dispelled the darkness. The entire corridor was silent except for the sound of Cai Gu's footsteps.
He held the flashlight in his teeth, his bright red tongue pressing against its casing, recording the status of each piece of equipment. After confirming everything was in order, Cai Gu let out a long sigh.
Finally done. Now he just had to wait for dawn to go rest.
Cai Gu stretched. A gust of wind from the window blew his hair and the hem of his shirt. He turned around in confusion and noticed that someone had opened the window at the end of the corridor.
Cai Gu braced his hands on the window sill and leaned out to look. His upper body was fully exposed, his full chest slightly sagged. Just as he was enjoying the evening breeze, he suddenly noticed that light was coming from the upper left window.
That area was Cai Gu's responsibility. He had checked it just now, and the lights were definitely off.
Cai Gu furrowed his dark brows, unable to figure out why. He closed the window, made sure to lock it securely, and then hurried toward the room that was lit.
The church walls were hung with mysterious paintings, each frame had an eye watching the unaware Beta in the corridor.
Arriving at the end of the corridor, Cai Gu finally discovered which room the light came from. He muttered to himself, "Did I miss this room just now?"
He pushed the door open, naturally walked to the left, and flipped the switch, plunging the room back into darkness.
"Hmm, can't waste electricity." Cai Gu clapped his hands. Just as he was about to leave, he suddenly heard a breathing sound in the room that didn't belong to him.
His clapping motion froze. Confused, he turned the light back on, instantly illuminating the room and revealing the full scene to Cai Gu.
The walls of the room were covered with bloodstains. A strong metallic smell hit him. On the floor lay four or five corpses, their wounds still oozing blood.
And in the center was a young man in a white robe, golden hair falling to the ground, red bloodstains on his pale face. He lazily lifted his eyelids, smirking at Cai Gu by the wall.
Cai Gu swallowed. His hand was on the light switch. He turned it off, then on again. The young man was still standing there.
Ah.
So he wasn't seeing things.
Yue Jin's eyes were dazzled by the light. He looked at the older man, who was shrinking his shoulders against the wall, and squinted.
The man wore a thin, semi-transparent shirt, revealing his wheat-colored, firm muscles. His shoulders were hunched inward, making his chest muscles stand out even more.
Yue Jin smirked: "Did someone actually send a Beta to seduce me?"
Cai Gu held his breath. He kept his head down, only hearing Yue Jin's footsteps. Because the floor was covered in blood, each step made a squelching sound.
Just as Yue Jin was about to approach, Cai Gu suddenly looked up, his black eyes glistening, putting on a pitiful and innocent face as he looked at Yue Jin.
Then he grabbed the flashlight and flung it at Yue Jin's face. While Yue Jin dodged, he turned and ran outside.
It's over, it's over...
He'd stumbled onto a murder scene; he'd definitely be killed to keep him quiet.
Cai Gu's heart pounded like thunder. He could hear Yue Jin laughing behind him, a creepy, terrifying sound: "Why are you running? Weren't you sent to kill me?"
Cai Gu ignored the man's words. He ran downstairs, relying on his memory of the building. He'd originally wanted to call out to the captain, but thinking of the pile of corpses on the ground...
Calling the captain over would only harm him.
Cai Gu couldn't run anymore. He looked around, found a cabinet, and crawled inside. His large body pitifully curled into a ball. With trembling hands, he took out his phone and dialed the police.
He could only hear the sound of his heart beating in his chest. Soon, the call connected: "H-hello, I am at the church of Yasa Academy. A murder has occurred here. Please come as soon as possible..."
The other side remained silent, then hung up before Cai Gu could finish.
Cai Gu widened his eyes in disbelief. He called again, but this time the other side simply didn't answer.
Calling the police was useless. Meanwhile, Cai Gu could already hear the young man chasing after him. The sharp dagger scraped against the cabinet, making a piercing sound that almost burst his eardrums.
Cai Gu hugged his legs, curling himself into a corner, trembling. Just as he looked up, a golden eye suddenly pressed against the crack in the cabinet, peering in.
Cai Gu froze. That golden eyeball moved left and right, its gaze about to land on him.
"Crash."
Yue Jin stopped his movements. He listened to the commotion not far away and saw the flashlight beam shining in from outside.
"Tsk."
A security guard was coming. He couldn't linger here any longer.
A dangerous glint flashed in Yue Jin's eyes. But it didn't matter; he would catch that Beta.
Cai Gu was terrified. He silently prayed in his heart. When the cabinet door opened, he braced himself to headbutt the murderer, but instead fell into the captain's arms.
The warm, soft mass knocked the captain to the ground. Cai Gu's head was buried in the captain's chest. Just as he was about to get up and run, the captain grabbed his wrist, his voice filled with surprise: "Why are you hiding here?"
Hearing the familiar voice, Cai Gu immediately looked up. His hands braced on the ground, stray hair stuck to his forehead, cheeks flushed: "When did you get here? Wait, didn't you see anyone when you came?"
The captain was fixated on Cai Gu's moving red lips; for a moment, he couldn't look away. Only when Cai Gu grabbed his shoulders and shook him did he react: "Anyone? I didn't see anyone?"
"How could that be?" Cai Gu muttered worriedly. He glanced uneasily at the upper floor, then thought of the phone call that couldn't go through. The courage he'd mustered dissipated, and he shrank back timidly: "Maybe I was mistaken."
The captain saw how shaken he was and comforted him softly: "Don't be afraid. It might be a mouse hiding in the corner. We can go back and rest now."
Cai Gu muttered a vague response, pulling away from the captain's embrace. He quickly glanced up the stairs, his brow furrowed with worry.
Cai Gu followed the captain, and as they stepped outside, the morning sunlight bathed him, dispelling the chill that clung to his body.
His limbs were stiff; he didn’t come to his senses until they returned to the security booth.
Instead of resting, Cai Gu stayed by his phone, watching the news closely.
He waited for hours, but no report surfaced about a murder at Yasa Academy.
A cold shiver ran down his spine, and an outrageous thought crept into his mind—could what he saw last night have been a ghost?
The moment this idea struck, Cai Gu felt the temperature in the security booth drop a few degrees. He silently wrapped himself tighter in the blanket, nervously glancing around.
The phone on the table buzzed, scaring him so much that his round, drooping eyes widened. Kneeling upright on the bed, he cautiously leaned forward to check, only to find a message from Jiang Yu.
[Shan Yu]: Come to our school.
[Shan Yu]: I’ll wait for you at the school gate.
Cai Gu slowly lowered his gaze, pretending not to have seen it, but then another message came through from Jiang Yu.
[Shan Yu]: If you don’t come, I’ll have the school fire your husband.
Cai Gu had expected those words. He sighed helplessly, threw on a change of clothes, and intentionally waited half an hour in the security booth before slipping out the side door, circling around to the main gate.
A black luxury car was parked outside the school gate. The window rolled down, revealing Jiang Yu’s flamboyant red hair. He lifted his chin, looking Cai Gu up and down with a dissatisfied frown. “Get in. I’m taking you somewhere.”
Just as Cai Gu was about to get into the car, he suddenly felt someone watching him from behind. Frowning, he turned to look back, but saw nothing except the passing students.
Cai Gu rubbed his eyes, tilting his head for another look, when a hand shot out from the car, grabbed his wrist, and yanked him inside.
With a *thud*, Cai Gu landed face-down across Jiang Yu’s lap. A hand clamped the back of his neck, pinning him in place, while the Alpha’s pheromones wrapped around him wantonly.
“You’re so slow.” Jiang Yu whined childishly. He looked down at Cai Gu sprawled across his lap. From the back, what caught the eye was the full, rounded curve of his hips, and further up, his broad shoulders, with a peek of his nape through the messy hair.
Jiang Yu held Cai Gu down with wicked intent, a mischievous idea forming in his mind. “Don’t move. I need to check your nape, to see if your husband bit you last night.”
