    Chapter 4: Jealousy

Jiang Yu lowered his eyes to look at the sandwich brought to his lips. Between the soft slices of bread were delicious ham and bacon, topped with salad dressing. Just from its appearance, it wasn't exactly exquisite—it must have been made by him.

Made by him for his husband.

Jiang Yu let out a cold laugh. Just as he was about to open his mouth and take a big bite of the sandwich, he noticed Cai Gu's gaze.

The other man kept staring at the sandwich, his lips pressed together, his Adam's apple moving up and down as longing spilled from his eyes.

Jiang Yu tilted his head, the earring on his earlobe swaying with the movement: "You didn't eat breakfast!"

Cai Gu's hand trembled, as if he didn't understand why Jiang Yu was suddenly angry.

Jiang Yu: "Your husband is an adult. Doesn't he know how to buy food himself? Is he useless? Why do you have to deliver it to him?"

Jiang Yu didn't know what he was so angry about. Maybe it was because the old man in front of him was too foolish, too humble in this marriage.

Cai Gu, hearing him go too far, quietly defended the team leader: "It's not like that. He's just... too tired. He needs to earn money to support the family."

Cai Gu looked submissive, his head lowered. His eyelashes covered his dark pupils, giving the impression that anyone could bully him at will.

Jiang Yu didn't like what he said: "Eat it yourself."

Cai Gu clutched the sandwich helplessly: "You're not eating it anymore?"

Jiang Yu: "I don't want to eat something from someone else."

Cai Gu could only think that this young man's mood was complicated, unpredictable, hard to figure out.

But he was indeed hungry. Cai Gu bit into the sandwich, the salad dressing inside smearing onto his lips. He stuck out his tongue and licked the slightly sweet dressing.

    So stupid.

Jiang Yu's canine teeth itched. A destructive impulse surged within him, but he didn't know what to do about it.

It felt like there was a fire in his chest, about to burst through his ribcage.

The bloody scent of pheromones filled the entire cubicle, spreading out and making the space look like a crime scene.

But Cai Gu was completely unaware. His cheeks were puffed as he chewed, mentally planning to add a fried egg to the sandwich next time, or maybe make two sandwiches.

    One wasn't enough.

Even though Cai Gu ate carefully, salad dressing still lingered at the corner of his lips.

    "Boss~ I heard you broke your leg~ We've come to see you~"

"Boss, you're so pathetic, hahahahaha. I never thought you'd have a day when you slip up…"

A group of teenagers giggled as they pushed the door open and barged in. As soon as they entered, they smelled a thick, bloody scent.

"Eh? What's with all this pheromone smell? Boss, are you in your rut early…"

The teenager standing in front still had a grin on his face, swaggering in. But once he saw Cai Gu on the hospital bed, he immediately swallowed the rest of his words.

Because his button had popped open, Cai Gu's collar was wide, revealing his full pectoral muscles. His soft, shoulder-length hair hung loosely, tied back with a black hair tie. His drooping eyelids made him look gentle and easy to push around. His long legs were pressed together, the plump flesh of his thighs squeezed together.

When he looked over, his eyes were moist, his lips slightly parted, covered with a sheen of moisture, like a cherry ripe for the picking.

The noisy teenagers fell silent instantly. They were all children from noble families who attended the Noble Academy and were friends with Jiang Yu, but none of them had ever seen Cai Gu before.

The leading teenager paused for a moment, then bent down and said, "Hello, Uncle."

    "Hello, Uncle!"

The voices of the teenagers made Cai Gu flustered. He turned back to look at Jiang Yu and said in a soft voice, "Then I'll be going now."

His gaze shifted to Jiang Yu's right leg, which was in a cast: "If anything happens, just send me a message. Don't be scared. Take good care of your injury. Your leg will definitely heal."

Cai Gu's words made Jiang Yu turn his head away awkwardly. He pretended to be impatient and clicked his tongue: "I know."

Cai Gu lowered his eyes, picked up his messenger bag, and quickly slipped past the teenagers before Jiang Yu could ask him to pay for the medical expenses.

His shoulder-length ink-black hair arced through the air, a faint fragrance drifting over. As he walked, his hips swayed slightly from side to side.

Wang Wei mysteriously sidled up, about to sit on the edge of the bed when Jiang Yu kicked him away with his casted leg.

Wang Wei propped himself up on the floor, his eyebrows curved: "Boss, is this your new stepmom? Your uncle changed his tastes? Looks like a Beta."

Cai Gu was clearly a mature man, belonging to a completely different world from these newly adult teenagers like themselves.

Jiang Yu scrolled through Cai Gu's Moments, finding that everything he reposted was from public accounts. He silently complained that the guy was an old fogy in his heart.

But when he reached the very end and didn't see even a trace of the team leader, Jiang Yu's mood inexplicably improved.

It seemed their marriage wasn't that great after all.

    "Ding-dong."

Walking under the blazing sun, Cai Gu pulled out his phone. His honey-colored skin was covered with a thin layer of sweat, like a coating of sweet honey that made you want to lick it.

[Shan Yu]: Jiang Yu, that's my name. Remember to change the note.

[Shan Yu]: Bring lunch to Building Zhiyuan, third floor, tomorrow at noon. I want it handmade by you, specially made for me. It has to be different from what you make for your husband.

The sunlight was too harsh. Cai Gu moved to stand in the shade of a tree.

The few seconds of delay were enough for Jiang Yu to send a string of messages.

[Shan Yu]: Why aren't you replying? My foot got sprained because of you.

    [Shan Yu]: (Angry) jpg.

Looking at the angry little bear on the screen and then thinking of the red-haired youth lying in the hospital bed, Cai Gu found them a bit similar.

[Cai Gu]: Okay. Is there anything you want to eat?

    [Shan Yu]: Anything is fine.

Cai Gu put his phone back into his messenger bag. The situation was much better than he had anticipated.

Following his memory, Cai Gu walked back to the security booth. The team leader was standing outside waiting for him. Seeing Cai Gu, he quickly came over: "Are you okay?"

The team leader had worked here for many years and naturally understood how bad the students at the Noble Academy could be.

He scratched his head self-reproachfully: "I should have left someone at the booth. You're new, you don't know the situation here."

The two of them sat down on the stools in the security booth. The cold air from the air conditioner blew over them with a whoosh.

The captain continued, "These students have terrible attitudes and their families always have their backs. Although the academy officially says we should manage the students, you know as well as I do that we're just ordinary people—we can't control them at all. So when working, you need to learn to slack off."

In Cai Gu's mind, Jiang Yu wasn't as bad as the captain described—just a rather childish kid. Besides, he was getting paid and should do his job properly.

But facing the captain's kind reminder, Cai Gu still nodded and said softly with a smile, "Okay, I understand."

When he smiled, the fine lines at the corners of his eyes became more pronounced, making him look especially gentle: "Thanks for today."

If it weren't for the captain, he would've definitely lost this job for causing such a big mess.

The captain stared at his face and, as if possessed, leaned in closer, nervously tapping his fingers on the table: "I was worried I might've caused you trouble. After all, I said we were husband and wife without your consent. If your husband finds out, it'd be hard to explain, right..."

"No way." Cai Gu blinked his round, drooping eyes in confusion, tilting his head: "I don't have a husband."

The captain froze in shock, genuinely surprised that Cai Gu had no husband. In the captain's mind, with a face and body like Cai Gu's, he would have a powerful noble Alpha.

    Was he divorced?

Why else would a guy his age be working as a security guard?

The captain's mind was racing with random thoughts, but his face remained neutral: "That's good, then. As long as there's no misunderstanding."

Excited, he felt his palms grow sweaty. He wiped them casually on his uniform: "Well then, let me first take you to the East Gate to get familiar with the work environment."

"And I'll also walk you through the work procedures."

    "Okay."

There was a stretch of road between the main gate and the east gate, and they took an enclosed cart to the east gate.

The cart had the air conditioning on, the cool air blowing Cai Gu's hair. He rested his chin on one hand, curiously looking out the window at the scenery. A solemn, quiet building caught his attention.

The captain, while driving, explained, "That's the school's church, built for the Blue Luo Religion. The Saint also studies at our academy. You've heard of the Blue Luo Religion, right?"

Cai Gu hesitated, then nodded. Of course, he knew—there was a church near his building too. Every Saturday, the monks and nuns would hand out flyers on the streets, and those who went to the church for baptism could get eggs.

Cai Gu's fridge was full of eggs given out by that church.

The cart dropped Cai Gu off at the East Gate. Thick green bamboo surrounded the east gate, almost covering half the security booth. The captain took out the keys and unlocked the door: "Actually, the area outside is also part of the academy's grounds."

The East Gate security booth hadn't been used in a long time—a layer of dust had settled on everything. Cai Gu helped open the windows: "Outside too?"

Through the iron gate, Cai Gu could vaguely see a flat field, above which floated a blue screen.

The captain pulled out cleaning tools: "Yes, outside is the training ground. The students come here once a week for virtual training. Usually, you just sit in the booth, open the gate when they have class, and after class, check for any stragglers. Add me as a friend—I'll assign you specific tasks later."

"Here at the East Gate, things are pretty

easy. If there's anything you're not sure about, just come ask me."

The captain, as if injected with adrenaline, went outside to fetch a bucket of water, threw a rag in, and started wiping down the dusty table for Cai Gu.

Cai Gu wanted to take the rag, but the captain kept blocking him, like a peacock trying to show off, vying for Cai Gu's full attention.

After the captain had cleaned the booth to a spotless shine, a layer of sweat formed on his forehead: "From now on, you'll work here..."

Before he could finish, a soft handkerchief pressed against his forehead. Cai Gu, with a serious expression, wiped the sweat away.

They stood so close that the captain could clearly see the two parallel moles at the corner of Cai Gu's eye. Though they had only been together for a short while, the captain could feel that Cai Gu was a contradictory person.

He had a gentle personality and always wore a faint expression, but he was blessed with a highly seductive body—curvy in front and behind, with full chest muscles and a perky rear.

It made one fantasize about him lying on his bed, wearing a look of abandon.

Just as their faces were getting closer and closer, their breaths mingling, their lips about to touch, the captain's phone suddenly rang—it was a message from the work group. He had spent too much time at the East Gate.

The captain licked his lips reluctantly. No matter, there was plenty of time. Since this beauty had no husband, it was only right for him to pursue him.

"You can go back today and grab your stuff. There's a small bed in the back—you'll sleep here from now on."

"Sleep in the booth?" Cai Gu repeated his words, a hint of a smile unexpectedly appearing on his face. This meant he could temporarily avoid going home, stay away from those young thugs, and not have to endure their harassment anymore.

    Only...

He still had to go back today. He hoped he wouldn't bump into them.
