Chapter 7: Oh Right, Transportation
byChapter 7: Oh Right, Transportation
After receiving takeout for three days, Meng Ci suddenly thought of a serious problem.
Transportation.
In the early stages of the disaster, it wasn't necessary, but later on, with the speed and attacks of the zombies, human legs alone wouldn't suffice for escape.
So Meng Ci closed his door for a day and went to a 4S store favored by the local rich kids.
The reason this place was popular wasn't just because they had a wide variety of cars; it was also due to their top-notch car modification skills.
Meng Ci didn't know much about cars, but he knew how to leverage connections.
In the book, Meng Ci never got into racing because Meng Wan was strict with him.
But the Meng family still had a significant reputation in M City, so all Meng Ci needed to say was that he wanted to buy some cars and invite other rich kids to play together.
He mainly wanted motorcycles, off-road vehicles, and SUVs, but other vehicles suitable for mountainous and harsh terrains were also welcome.
Hearing Meng Ci's name, the manager personally greeted him and recommended only the best cars.
Meng Ci ordered five of each type and added two RVs.
For modifications, he requested bulletproof and explosion-proof glass, as well as the best engines and bumpers.
Twenty-three cars, plus the modifications, cost nearly four hundred million yuan.
Meng Ci didn't feel a pinch at all, since these were tools for survival.
He paid three hundred million upfront and promised more business if the modifications were done well.
The manager beamed with joy, assuring him everything would be perfect, and then respectfully escorted Meng Ci out.
Back at the store, the manager instructed the modification technicians to use the most expensive parts available!
Returning to the warehouse, Meng Ci continued shopping.
From the barbecue shop, he ordered ten portions each of skewered sausages, grilled wheat gluten, grilled eggplant, grilled enoki mushrooms, and grilled bread.
Meng Ci placed orders from ten different shops.
For braised foods, he ordered five kilograms each of braised chicken feet, duck feet, and peanuts.
Then he moved on to another shop.
...
While waiting for the deliveries, Meng Ci continued shopping online.
He bought one hundred small alcohol stoves and a thousand alcohol solid blocks, perfect for cooking hotpot during heavy rain or snow.
He also ordered twenty copper pots for when the power goes out, imagining the mouth-watering hotpot.
Previously, he only bought winter boots, so he ordered five hundred pairs of sports shoes.
He also added one hundred pairs each of sandals and slippers.
Considering the extreme heat to come, he needed something cooler to wear.
Short-sleeved shirts and shorts could also be purchased in bulk.
Oh right, insect repellent spray and mosquito repellent, five hundred boxes should do.
He also needed ten thousand warm pads.
One hundred boxes of mosquito coils.
Sleeping bags and tents, essential for outdoor survival, were also needed.
One hundred sleeping bags.
And twenty tents of various sizes.
On the fourteenth day before the apocalypse, Meng Ci didn't go to the warehouse but instead went to the hotels where he had previously made reservations.
At the first hotel, "Sorry, the bride and groom had a fight, and the wedding is canceled."
The prepared banquet was packed and loaded into a truck outside, to be delivered to an old people's home.
At the second hotel, "Sorry, the child celebrating a birthday caught a cold, so the party is canceled."
The prepared banquet was packed and loaded into a truck outside, to be taken to an orphanage.
At the third hotel, "Sorry, the sixtieth birthday celebration is canceled because the old man insists on traveling..."
Meng Ci drove to a secluded spot, transferred the items to his storage space, and then drove to the next hotel. By the time it was almost dark, he had finished.
Back at the warehouse, Meng Ci didn't rest.
Instead, he contacted the city's dessert shops and asked them to make all their ingredients into two-inch cakes and deliver them to his house tomorrow.
Of course, the address he provided was Li Shanyang's current residence.
Since the house belonged to Li Shanyang and Meng Ci didn't have the deed, he couldn't handle it.
Let them enjoy these last few good days.
The next day, Meng Ci woke up at around five and drove the minivan to the place where he could buy breakfast.
He chose the cleanest-looking shop and asked the owner to pack everything up and put it in the car. At first, the owner didn't believe him, so Meng Ci paid a deposit of one thousand yuan.
The owner, his wife, and an assistant quickly started packing. Even the items that weren't ready yet were hurriedly prepared.
After finishing at one shop, Meng Ci drove off and went to the next one.
By eight in the morning, Meng Ci had finished buying breakfast and arrived at Li Xiaoya's house.
"Ding."
"Ding."
Meng Ci kept ringing the doorbell persistently.
"Damn it, who the hell is it, disturbing people early in the morning?"
"Keep ringing, have you never seen a doorbell before? Can't you stop for a second?"
As the door opened, a woman's voice grumbled from inside.
Upon seeing Meng Ci, her face immediately lit up with a smile.
"Ah, Xiao Ci, how nice to see you today. Come in and sit down."
It was Zhang Lu, Li Shanyang's childhood friend.
Meng Ci sneered inwardly. No wonder Li Shanyang didn't fancy the gentle and pretty Meng Wan. Now he understood why.
But Meng Ci felt nothing about it.
"Xiao Ci, come in, what are you standing there for?"
"Okay." Meng Ci responded and walked ahead.
Zhang Lu followed a step behind, wondering why Meng Ci seemed so cold today. Could he have found out their true nature?
But that shouldn't be the case. Didn't Ya Ya say a few days ago that Meng Ci had bought her a house?
"Aunt?"
Hearing Meng Ci's voice, Zhang Lu quickly snapped back to reality and smiled at him sitting on the sofa.
"What is it?"
Meng Ci said, "I want to borrow the house for a bit. I'm having some classmates and friends over today."
"So can you, Dad, and my sister go out?"
"But I spent all my money this month on a house for my sister. Can I give you the money next month?"
"Of course." Zhang Lu agreed immediately.
Initially, she had been cursing under her breath about Meng Ci inviting his classmates and making them leave. But when she heard about getting money, she readily agreed.
Then she went upstairs to call Li Shanyang.
When the three of them came down, they were all smiling broadly.
Li Shanyang asked again, "Son, about the company..."
Meng Ci answered smoothly, "Uncle Liang and I have discussed it. We'll start the transfer next month. Don't worry."
"Good, good, good." Li Shanyang said happily, repeating it several times.
Over the years, Li Shanyang hadn't been able to get involved in the Meng family's real business. He even thought the wealthy people he had met in recent years were quite impressive.
But he didn't know that those people were unaware of the changes happening in the Meng family.
Let him enjoy a few more days of happiness.
Li Xiaoya sat down next to Meng Ci and held his arm affectionately. "Brother, can I go see the house you bought for me?"
"Of course!" Meng Ci, trying not to feel sick, used the excuse of getting the keys to pull his arm away.
"Here, while you're out shopping today, you can look at furniture and buy some essentials like beds. The expensive stuff can wait until next month."
"Wow, brother, you're the best!" Li Xiaoya jumped up excitedly.
Watching the three of them walk away, Meng Ci sneered.
That house was currently empty. Once a heavy storm hit, they might try to leave by any means possible.
But now that he had them buy some furniture and would later bring them some food, he had a reason to keep them there.
Until eventually, they wouldn't be able to leave, trapped in that building.
