Chapter 16 Mom, Let Liu Jie Go Try
byChapter 16 Mom, Let Liu Jie Go Try
In the surveillance footage, after discussing with Li Xiaoya, Liu Jie felt unbearably hungry.
After drinking a lot of water in the kitchen, he still felt no relief and could only lie on the sofa, hoping that sleep would help him forget his hunger.
When Li Xiaoya saw Liu Jie again, she did not hesitate to go straight into her bedroom and woke up Li Shanyang and Zhang Lu.
She recounted what Liu Jie had told them, and naturally, they were furious, insisting on going out to confront Liu Jie. However, Li Xiaoya stopped them.
"Dad, Mom, when I went out with him, that fat guy seemed very interested in Liu Jie."
"Maybe we should ask him if he likes men. If he does, we can tie up Liu Jie and trade him for some food."
Li Xiaoya thought about how the fat man's eyes kept lingering on Liu Jie's backside, leading to this suspicion.
Although Liu Jie was usually kind to her, Li Xiaoya trusted her parents more in times of danger.
Li Shanyang and Zhang Lu agreed with their daughter's idea, thinking it would reduce one mouth to feed and allow them to exchange the ungrateful person for food.
They quickly left the room and returned shortly with a rope, smiling broadly.
"He does like men."
"And he said if we bring Liu Jie to him, he'll give us a box of instant noodles!"
Hearing this, Li Xiaoya was thrilled.
She never imagined that a single person could be exchanged for a whole box of instant noodles; it seemed like a good deal.
She helped Zhang Lu tie up Liu Jie, but when Liu Jie woke up, Li Xiaoya took a few steps back, feigning innocence, her eyes filled with tears.
Meng Ci stopped watching at this point, impressed by Li Xiaoya's acting skills.
But then again, if she were a poor actor, Liu Jie would have seen through her long ago.
As for the food Liu Jie had hidden outside the kitchen balcony, Meng Ci had found the person's WeChat and informed him!
Meng Ci just thought the apocalypse was too boring and wanted some entertainment.
In the surveillance footage, Li Xiaoya and her family each had two packets of instant noodles, devouring them entirely, even drinking the broth.
"Ah! That was so satisfying." Li Xiaoya patted her belly.
Li Shanyang and Zhang Lu also looked content.
"If only we had kept Meng Ci, we could have traded two people for even more food," Zhang Lu couldn't help but say.
Upon hearing Zhang Lu's words, Li Shanyang's face darkened.
"That useless guy's phone is still unreachable. What good is he?"
Li Xiaoya also thought that if Meng Ci were here, they wouldn't need to trade Liu Jie for food, and she would have another person to protect her.
After their reflections, they feared someone might steal the remaining instant noodles, so they clung to the box tightly.
Eventually, they agreed that the remaining eighteen packets would be divided equally, with each person keeping six packets.
Seeing them clutch the instant noodles as if guarding against enemies, Meng Ci found it amusing.
It seemed that family bonds were easily shattered in the face of such necessities.
This was fine; he didn't need to do anything to get rid of them.
On the sixth day of the heavy rain, Meng Ci was awakened by the sound of an engine. He went to the balcony and saw someone had placed a motorboat in the water.
Three days ago, the water had flooded the first floor.
Residents on the first floor, unable to seek help, moved upstairs.
The neighborhood was new, so many apartments were vacant.
They broke into unoccupied units, taking shelter there.
From a distance, with the rain pouring down, Meng Ci couldn't see who was on the boat clearly.
But based on the plot, the people on the boat were likely the book's protagonist and his friends.
The protagonist, Si Chen, was a college athlete who joined a local rescue team with several classmates, equipped with ample flood rescue gear.
They probably went out because they were starving.
Meng Ci wasn't in a hurry to leave since he had plenty of food. Even if he went scavenging, food wouldn't be his priority; instead, he needed other things, like gas cylinders.
Before the apocalypse, Meng Ci dared not buy many gas cylinders, as it required identification, and buying too many might attract police attention.
He had already planned the route to the gas company and was waiting for a power outage to execute his plan.
"Citizens, please note that the coming days will bring a once-in-a-century heavy rainstorm. Please avoid going out unless absolutely necessary."
The female reporter on TV, initially reporting from the field, had retreated indoors due to the increasing rain, and Meng Ci could see her fatigue clearly.
Turning off the TV, Meng Ci switched to the surveillance footage.
"Mom, they must be going out to find food."
Li Xiaoya and Zhang Lu stood by the window, watching the motorboat carrying the protagonist and his friends drift further away.
"It's possible." Zhang Lu nodded, then looked at Li Xiaoya. "YaYa, you're really beautiful."
Suddenly praised by Zhang Lu, Li Xiaoya was puzzled.
"Do you think those guys might feel lonely and bored?" Zhang Lu watched the inflatable boat depart, as if she had seen gold.
"Mom, what do you mean?" Li Xiaoya instantly understood.
"Later, we'll pay attention to which floor they go to when they return. You should wear that dress of yours, put on a weak-looking makeup, and knock on their door."
Li Xiaoya, being smart, immediately grasped her mother's intention and hurried back into the house to get ready.
Meng Ci sneered; this Li Xiaoya truly had a cold heart. Liu Jie had just been sent to someone else's bed, and now she herself was planning to sleep with someone else.
However, Meng Ci wasn't worried about Li Xiaoya succeeding, since Si Chen had a lover, who was also a man.
Ignoring the surveillance footage, Meng Ci went to the kitchen and cooked a pot of tomato beef porridge, stir-fried a plate of shredded potatoes, and made two pancakes using an electric griddle, intending to wrap them with the potato shreds.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Hearing the knocking, Meng Ci immediately grabbed a knife and cautiously peeked through the peephole, seeing Shen Que's handsome face.
Placing the knife on the shoe cabinet beside the door, Meng Ci opened it.
"What is it?" Meng Ci asked.
Shen Que handed him a bag. "This is some food I found last night. Here, take some."
Meng Ci didn't take it. "No need, I still have food. You keep it for yourself."
Meng Ci often wondered if there was something wrong with Shen Que's head.
At this point, he should keep his food for himself, why give it away?
He didn't even fear that Meng Ci might be a bad person, who would kill him first.
"I'll find a way to get more myself," Meng Ci added.
Shen Que insisted, "It's raining heavily outside now. It's better for you not to go out easily."
"I have an inflatable boat in my room. If you need to go out without any tools, you can use mine."
"Or we could go together and watch each other's backs."
Hearing Shen Que tell him not to go out easily, Meng Ci felt indignant.
Both being men, if Shen Que could go out, why couldn't he?
"Take the food. If anyone knocks later, don't open the door easily."
Shen Que shoved the bag into Meng Ci's hands and gave instructions before leaving.
Looking at Shen Que's back, Meng Ci spoke up.
"Hey, I made breakfast. Do you want to come eat?"
Immediately after saying this, Meng Ci regretted it.
Hadn't he decided not to interact with this person anymore? How could he lose control like this?
