Chapter 33 Shen Que, Come Over to Discuss

"Is there anything else I should know?"

Meng Ci touched the now smooth and unmarked wall, muttering to himself.

In the spaces described in books, there were mountains and rivers, but his space was just barren land with nothing at all.

"The soil in this space is not suitable for planting. If you want to plant anything, please bring your own soil!"

After Meng Ci silently complained, a line of text suddenly appeared on the wall.

    What the heck!

He had to go outside to find soil to plant?

It was pouring rain outside; where could he find soil?

And he had wasted two packets of seeds and a lot of tap water.

Why hadn't they told him about this earlier?

"Is there anything else I need to be aware of?" Despite his complaints, Meng Ci still wanted more information.

"Can there be water in this space?" Meng Ci looked hopefully at the wall.

However, it seemed the wall was upset by Meng Ci's complaints and didn't respond for a long time.

    The line of text remained.

    "Okay then!"

Seeing no response from the wall, Meng Ci assumed there was nothing else useful in the space and left it.

It seemed that unless absolutely necessary, he shouldn't enter the space easily, to save time for the future.

Meng Ci exited the space and found himself back at the spot where he had taken photos earlier. Liu Jie and Li Xiaoya had already returned, so Meng Ci climbed the stairs in the dark.

It was already 12:30 AM when Meng Ci washed his face and went to bed.

"Neighbors upstairs and downstairs, do you have electricity?"

"Does anyone have a power bank I can borrow?"

"Does anyone have gas? Can I borrow some to cook a meal?"

    ...

Meng Ci was woken up early in the morning by the shouts of the residents downstairs. He rolled around in bed in frustration.

Rubbing his eyes, Meng Ci checked his phone and saw it was only ten o'clock. These people must be bored, shouting without getting tired.

Oh right, they were indeed bored.

But couldn't they conserve their energy and reduce their physical exertion?

Opening his phone, every group chat was complaining about the power outage.

Some said their phones had only five percent battery left, while others believed the power would come back soon.

"The tap water has been cut off for days, and no one is managing it. Now the power is out, who will take care of it?"

"Don't be too pessimistic, upstairs. The rain is so heavy; the repair crew will need time to fix it."

    "That's true."

"I think the government has abandoned us. They don't provide food or water."

"When will this rain stop? When we had power, I could play games to distract myself from hunger, but now without power, I have no mental sustenance. How am I supposed to survive?"

    ...

There were both optimistic and pessimistic voices in the groups. Meng Ci lurked for a while before closing them.

He then opened a novel reading app and started reading.

Meng Ci was reading an apocalyptic novel, mainly to see if there were any reliable survival methods suitable for an apocalypse.

After half an hour, Meng Ci stretched and got up to make breakfast.

After eating, Meng Ci called Shen Que.

"Do you want to come over and discuss where to find food tonight?"

    "Sure!"

Shen Que agreed and soon came knocking, carrying a plastic bag.

"Didn't I tell you not to bring food?"

"If you insist on bringing it, don't come in!" Meng Ci paused as he opened the metal door.

Meng Ci had plenty of food stored in his space and didn't need any more.

Besides, Shen Que had always treated him well, so Meng Ci couldn't just take his survival supplies.

Shen Que chuckled and took out a packet of sunflower seeds.

"I didn't bring food; these are just some snacks, like sunflower seeds and chips."

"I thought that discussing matters would be a bit monotonous if we only talked, so I brought some snacks."

Meng Ci glanced at the plastic bag he had opened, and indeed, it contained some snacks. Only then did he let the person in.

Since Li Xiaoya had brought snacks, Meng Ci couldn't be too stingy.

Taking advantage of the moment when he went to get water, Meng Ci took out two cups of instant milk tea from his storage space and made one for each of them.

Then they began planning where to find food.

Meng Ci had saved a map of City M on his phone, which he pulled up now, but it was a bit inconvenient for both of them to look at it together.

Shen Que took a piece of paper from the pile of snacks, unfolded it, and placed it on the coffee table.

This turned out to be a map of City M, clearly indicating what was where, much clearer than the one on his phone.

    "We are here now!"

Shen Que accurately found the location of Jin Shang Jia Yuan and then took a pencil to make some notes on the map.

"The rain has already flooded up to the third floor. These areas have low terrain, so even if there's anything inside, it's already useless due to flooding."

    "We can consider this area!"

Shen Que pointed to the eastern part of City M, which had higher terrain.

This area mainly consisted of tall buildings and several large shopping malls. Even if the water reached the third floor, they could still explore upwards.

"Good!" Meng Ci nodded. He had studied the terrain of City M before, and this place was indeed a good choice.

After roughly determining their direction, the two chose the largest mall in the area.

The basement level sold snacks, while the first and second floors were mainly for various accessories and children's play areas.

The third and fourth floors were clothing stores, and the fifth floor had a large supermarket. The remaining floors, including the sixth, were various restaurants.

The seventh floor was a cinema, with a few places for playing murder mystery games.

Their main target this time was the supermarket on the fifth floor.

"My rubber boat is quite large and can hold a lot of things, so we can load more."

"Remember to bring containers for the food."

    Meng Ci nodded.

"I think the electricity won't come back anytime soon. If we can find a gas stove or something similar, we should bring it back."

"If not, we'll have to take things like bread and instant noodles."

"Right." Shen Que agreed with Meng Ci's reasoning and quickly thought through the plan.

"Here." Suddenly, Shen Que pointed to a spot.

"I remember there's an outdoor camping store here."

"Maybe we can find some suitable fire stoves or portable gas stoves to bring back!"

    "Good!"

With their plan set, Meng Ci said goodbye to Shen Que.

The power had already been cut off, rendering Meng Ci's installed surveillance system useless.

Fortunately, these two people moved early in the morning from the fifth floor to Room 1206, closer to the seventeenth floor and within the range of the fly surveillance.

So Meng Ci released a fly surveillance to see what Liu Jie and the others were doing.

Now that they couldn't boil water, the two of them had to eat dry instant noodles.

"Brother Jie, will what happened last night really not be discovered?" Li Xiaoya stared at the white wall, feeling uneasy.

Although the walls were pristine, Li Xiaoya sometimes saw her mother's bloodied head, staring at her coldly.

    "Don't worry!"

This was Liu Jie's first time disposing of a body, and he was scared too, but he managed to accept it better than Li Xiaoya.

"Don't think about it anymore. Eat quickly; filling our stomachs is the most important thing now!"

"Okay." Li Xiaoya took a few bites of the dry noodles, finding them hard to swallow.

Suddenly, she remembered that before the heavy rain, she wouldn't even look at such junk food to maintain her figure. She never expected to rely on it for survival now.

Seeing Li Xiaoya feeling melancholic, Liu Jie didn't feel like comforting her either!
