Chapter 42 Shen Que, Can You Stay with Me
byChapter 42 Shen Que, Can You Stay with Me
"You just started learning, so you can punch slower but with more force."
"Keep your breathing steady and look straight at your target!"
Meng Ci brought out the standing punching bag from home and began hitting it under Shen Que's guidance.
"Hold your hands higher, keep your elbows tight."
It was Meng Ci's first time practicing, so Shen Que had him train for half an hour.
Meng Ci knew that things should be done step by step, so he started doing stretching exercises.
Because the weather was too damp, they stayed outside until past five o'clock for the cement to set.
The rebar was already in place, and now they only needed to pour the cement.
Once the wall was finished, Shen Que started installing the security doors.
There were two doors, facing opposite directions; one opened outward, and the other inward.
One security door, which had a key, was installed inside.
The other security door, Shen Que dismantled a lock from his own house and replaced the lock core before installing it outside.
Shen Que also moved the alarm system to above the newly built wall.
This position was high enough to prevent it from being damaged.
Worried that the wall might be vandalized again at night, Shen Que and Meng Ci decided that one would guard the early part of the night while the other would guard the later part.
To prevent Shen Que from staying up all night, Meng Ci offered to take the early shift.
Seeing Meng Ci's insistence, Shen Que had no choice but to agree.
Meng Ci moved a beanbag chair into the corner and then brought out a thick blanket.
He also carried out a folding table, placing on it the sunflower seeds and spicy strips he and Shen Que had gotten earlier.
Plus a power bank fully charged at Shen Que's place.
Meng Ci's life seemed quite comfortable, almost as if it wasn't the end times.
"Are you here for a vacation or to guard?"
It was rare for Shen Que to tease, and Meng Ci naturally responded.
"I call this making the best of a bad situation!"
Meng Ci lay comfortably on the beanbag chair and said, "I have another sofa in my room."
"If you're envious, we can share!"
"Or we could lie together; my sofa is pretty big!"
Shen Que shook his head. "No thanks!"
"You rest early; I'll come relieve you later."
With that, he walked behind the two security doors.
Meng Ci called out regretfully, "Shen Que, are you shy?"
"Don't worry, we're both men; there's nothing to be embarrassed about."
In response, the security door was coldly shut with two clicks.
Meng Ci sighed; he really couldn't be teased.
But Meng Ci still had some expectations, not for anything naughty, but to feel his abs.
As the sky darkened, Meng Ci put on headphones, took out a tablet, and started watching a TV series.
He held his phone, playing a small game.
To be honest, lying here was no different from being inside.
The only downside was the occasional sound of wind.
If Meng Ci weren't brave, he might have been scared away.
Playing until past ten, Meng Ci started yawning, tucked his phone under the blanket, buried his chin in it, and fell asleep.
Since the heavy rain, if there was nothing urgent, Meng Ci usually went to bed around ten and rarely stayed up late, feeling his skin had improved.
"Are we really going to tear down the wall?"
"Of course, otherwise once the cement sets, we won't have a chance to get the food."
"They're so aggressive; what if they catch us!"
"So what if they do? They can't do much to us!"
"That's right..."
Although the voices were kept low, they were still very noticeable in the quiet night.
Probably because the power had been out for too long, none of them carried any lighting devices and were feeling their way forward.
Fortunately, Meng Ci was lying in the corner, out of reach of their trampling.
"Squeak~"
As soon as the group entered the range detected by the alarm, it quickly sounded off.
The group, startled by the sudden noise, huddled together in fear.
"Should we still push?"
"We came all this way; not pushing would be pointless."
"Exactly. With so many of us, if we work together, we can knock it down before they come out."
The group fumbled their way towards the wall they had built.
"Is that so?"
Meng Ci held a flashlight in his left hand and shone it directly on the group.
There were five people, men and women, none of whom Meng Ci recognized, nor did he have any conflict with them.
He couldn't understand why they were targeting him.
The group huddled together again but became bolder upon seeing that Meng Ci was alone.
"Since you're here alone, open the door and hand over the food!"
"Otherwise, with so many of us, one hit each will ensure you don't live to see tomorrow."
"What if I don't?"
Meng Ci placed the knife in his right hand in front of the flashlight and raised an eyebrow.
Seeing the knife in his hand, the group naturally grew afraid.
They had only come to push the wall this time, without any other intentions, so they had no weapons.
"Bang!"
At that moment, the security door opened, and Shen Que emerged, holding a flashlight and a butcher's knife.
The group swallowed nervously and huddled against the wall.
"Who damaged our wall last night?"
The small corridor was now brightly lit, and Shen Que looked furious.
The group hastily shook their heads, unwilling to admit it.
"Not admitting it?"
Shen Que took a large step forward, causing the group's legs to tremble.
"Don't blame me for being rude." Shen Que moved the butcher's knife in front of the group.
"This knife can take down any pig, no matter how big or fat, with just one strike, leaving it breathless."
"Do you want to try it?"
Saying this, Shen Que paused the knife near a man's neck.
"Was it you who pushed?"
The group wanted to run, but Meng Ci blocked their escape with his knife, leaving them with no way out.
"It was him, it was him." The man, lacking mental fortitude, quickly pointed out the culprit.
Seeing himself exposed, the man quickly found Shen Que's knife at his throat, and they began blaming each other.
"It wasn't me, it wasn't me."
"Brother, don't listen to his nonsense."
