Chapter 45 I’d Prefer If You Kept Resisting
by 喵总睡不醒Chapter 45: I'm Kind of Hoping You'll Keep Resisting
"I..." Qin Shuyi had just started to speak when a large hand covered her mouth.
"At least finish this meal together," Ling Jue said.
She only ever said things he didn't want to hear, and tonight he wasn't willing to hear another word of refusal from her lips.
He directly scooped her up from behind by the waist, deposited her back in her seat, sat down beside her himself, and shoved the two chairs right next to each other.
"Your blind date is running this late; looks like he's not coming. A man who can't keep time, do you think he's worth waiting for?" he said, his tone sour. While speaking, Qin Shuyi's left hand remained firmly clasped in his, as if guarding against her turning to flee.
Qin Shuyi tried to shake it off but couldn't break free.
Ling Jue's lips curved, selectively forgetting the earlier argument. He picked up the menu and placed it in front of her. "What do you want to eat?"
Qin Shuyi used her free hand to try to pry his fingers loose.
It didn't budge an inch.
Ling Jue gave their joined hands a little shake. "A waste of effort."
Qin Shuyi gritted her teeth.
"Let go."
"I won't."
"Aren't you worried your date will walk in and see us?"
Ling Jue said with a shrug, "So what if they see?"
That non-existent lady would be a ghost if she could show up.
Unbeknownst to him, to Qin Shuyi's ears, this sounded like classic scumbag logic.
*He set up a blind date, and here he is tangled up with an ex, acting like he's in the right?*
"You're utterly shameless, Ling Jue."
"Haven't you known that for a long time?"
Qin Shuyi raised her hand as if to strike.
Ling Jue reacted swiftly, grabbing her wrist. He simply pinned her squirming hands behind her back, then with another forceful motion, wrapped his arm around her waist, lifted her, and deposited her sideways on his lap, locking her firmly in his embrace.
With her hands immobilized, Qin Shuyi resorted to kicking at his legs.
Several footprints soon appeared on his expensive suit trousers.
Ling Jue frowned and swatted her backside. "Keep moving, and I won't mind giving whoever comes through that door a different kind of show."
Qin Shuyi stopped moving.
Ling Jue was truly unscrupulous; she really couldn't be sure he wouldn't do something downright indecent.
Ling Jue chuckled softly. "Scared already?"
Qin Shuyi was thin-skinned; of course, he wouldn't actually do anything.
But having not seen her admit defeat for so long, he actually felt a twinge of nostalgia.
He deliberately jostled her by bouncing his leg, his voice laced with amusement. "I'm kind of hoping you'll keep resisting."
Qin Shuyi responded by giving him another silent kick.
Ling Jue didn't mind.
She was already in his arms, and he had no intention of letting her go. Holding her in this position, he flipped through the menu.
"Let's order the sweet and sour mandarin fish you like, cherry pork. The crabs are good lately, want some?" he asked her while looking.
Qin Shuyi, annoyed, ignored him.
The one who had been tormenting him day and night was now, however unwillingly, sitting in his arms and sulking. The sight melted Ling Jue's icy demeanor, and he was in a mood to be pleasant to everyone.
Following her tastes, he quickly ordered the dishes. Just then, a knock came at the door.
Qin Shuyi froze.
Her hand gripped Ling Jue's arm, her nails almost digging into his flesh through his clothes.
Ling Jue's first reaction wasn't to the pain, but to the sight of her embarrassed, reddening eyes.
He panicked for a moment. "What's wrong?" His voice was low, his tone gentle.
Before waiting for her answer, he quickly guessed the reason, knowing her as he did.
Amused and exasperated, he wiped her eyes. "Don't worry, it's not him. My date told me before I came in that they wanted to cancel."
He then explained, "It should be the server."
He felt remorseful. Given Qin Shuyi's sense of morality, she would indeed feel ashamed for disrupting someone else's date. Why hadn't he clarified earlier?
He pressed his lips together. "I wasn't planning on going through with the blind date."
Thinking she might also be worried about the other person showing up, although he really didn't want to mention it, he still said, "The other person won't come in either. I've already spoken to the restaurant staff."
Qin Shuyi wasn't crying, nor was she worried about her own blind date.
Because such a person simply didn't exist.
There *was* a blind date arranged—the son of Zhou Yunhe's colleague that her aunt had mentioned last time.
But that was for after returning to the capital.
Today, Qin Shuyi was actually meeting a good friend of her cousin Qian Youyou, someone she was also very familiar with.
Before returning to S City, Qian Youyou had asked her to help bring a gift for this friend.
The reason for meeting here was because of the VIP card her aunt Zhou Tinglan had given her.
However, before Ling Jue arrived, Qin Shuyi had received a message: that friend's grandmother had fallen, and she and her family were taking her to the hospital.
She also apologized for having to cancel today, saying she would find time to visit the Qin family to collect her things from Qin Shuyi before Qin Shuyi returned to the capital.
She had only mentioned the blind date in front of Wang Tao to turn him down.
When she arrived at the entrance of Hengxing Grand Hotel, she got misunderstood, and Qin Shuyi didn't see the need to explain.
She'd already caught up privately with all her close friends. Compared to dining with a group of unfamiliar classmates, she would rather eat alone and pack up the leftovers.
Who would have thought that Ling Jue would pop up out of nowhere halfway through?
However, from Ling Jue's words, she suddenly realized that today might not have been a coincidence of two stood-up people reuniting at all.
Rather, it was someone's deliberate setup.
Otherwise, why would he have tipped off the restaurant?
She secretly felt relieved that she hadn't revealed the actual time of her blind date.
But since Ling Jue was feeling guilty, she didn't mind playing the victim.
She lowered her head, pushed his shoulder, and said in a muffled voice, "Let me down."
No matter who was outside, she didn't want to meet anyone like this with him.
Ling Jue hesitated for a moment.
Just as Qin Shuyi thought he was finally going to let her go, he pressed her head down, burying it against his chest.
"This way, you won't be seen."
Qin Shuyi: "?"
"..."
Ling Jue said to the person waiting at the door, "Come in," and casually squeezed Qin Shuyi's soft, fair hand.
The little fox was sly—if he let go, she might vanish in a flash.
Although he was in the wrong today, he wasn't going to let her go when he shouldn't.
As expected, it was a waiter waiting outside.
Before Ling Jue arrived, Qin Shuyi had already placed her order, and now they were here to serve the dishes.
Perhaps following the manager's instructions, the waiter quickly and professionally served the dishes and took away the new menu Ling Jue had ordered.
From start to finish, they didn't even glance at the woman who was being held possessively in the man's arms, with only the back of her head visible.
Once everyone had left, Ling Jue leaned in close to Qin Shuyi, who had lifted her head, and teased her, "So timid. Do you know what this is called? Burying your head in the sand."
Then, remembering why she had buried her head in the sand, he pinched her nose in annoyance. "Is having a meal with me some kind of shameful act?"
Qin Shuyi swatted his hand away. "It does feel a bit shameful."
Ling Jue laughed in exasperation, his deep, dark eyes fixed on her rosy, beautifully shaped lips.
He really wanted to taste whether her mouth was laced with poison.
