Chapter 76: They Are Not a Couple

The older relatives didn't dig too deep into the details of Qin Shuyi and Chi Yu's interactions, but they all thought pretty well of him.

Compared to the distant Ling Jue, Qian Youyou was more curious about this guy.

Qin Shuyi crossed her arms in an 'X' in front of her chest. "We're just friends for now, not close enough to meet the parents yet. Besides, he'd just be in the way at a family gathering."

    Qian Youyou pouted.

She figured he wouldn't feel awkward at all; if invited, he'd probably be thrilled.

On the day they went to the park to walk the dogs, Chi Yu gave Qin Shuyi a ride home. Qian Youyou, who was over for dinner at the Qins', saw them from afar, catching a glimpse from the window.

Tsk, that man's gentle, watery gaze made it clear that Dr. Chi was absolutely smitten with her sister's type.

Even after Qin Shuyi was long gone, he was still standing there.

Qin Yuan, who had just finished assembling the cat tree, sauntered past them slowly.

    "I agree with Darling."

That guy hasn't been around for long, yet he already wants to get his foot in the door? Dream on.

The Qin family's door isn't that easy to enter.

Zhou Yunhe listened to their playful banter, smiling.

Her loving gaze fell on her elegant, grown daughter.

Sometimes, two very good people don't necessarily end up together.

She wouldn't urge them to become a couple just because Chi Yu was a good man. Her daughter was worthy of the very best.

She hoped her daughter would choose someone she wouldn't regret in the future.

    ...

Now that the new cat was home, following Chi Yu's suggestion, Qin Shuyi planned to take it for a comprehensive health check-up.

Coincidentally, Chi Yu had a pet hospital he frequented. That day, he drove to pick up Qin Shuyi and Princess, bringing his own cat and dog along to meet.

As soon as he saw Princess, he smiled. "She's exactly as I imagined."

A pretty little girl, just like Qin Shuyi—elegant, leisurely, with a lazy expression.

It was the breed he guessed she would like.

Qin Shuyi curved her lips. "Then you have great taste."

Chi Yu opened the car door. "Your Highnesses, please."

This pet hospital was more like a high-end pet club than a hospital, complete with a large area for pets to socialize and play.

While Princess was getting her vaccinations, Chi Yu first took the Husky Xiao Er and the domestic cat Yuan Bao to the play area.

Who knew that as soon as they entered, a majestic Alaskan Malamute charged over recklessly, baring its teeth at the Husky.

Provoked, Xiao Er angrily barked back.

Although they couldn't understand what the two were saying, it was clear they were both cursing fiercely.

Unfortunately, there was a significant size difference between them, and Xiao Er was a bit outmatched in spirit.

Xiao Er probably knew he was outgunned, pacing angrily as he circled around, trying to find a weak spot to attack the Alaskan.

The Alaskan wasn't intimidated at all. It stopped barking and swept a contemptuous, kingly glance over the hopping, furious clown.

Feeling insulted, the Husky suddenly lowered its head and charged.

The Alaskan Malamute lifted a leg and, relying on its greater strength, pinned him down directly.

    "Stupid dog."

A familiar, mocking voice rang out.

Chi Yu frowned, looking towards the cold, stern figure approaching slowly.

    "Caesar, come back."

Ling Jue called out, and the formidable-looking Alaskan Malamute trotted over to his side.

A flicker of satisfaction passed through Ling Jue's eyes. At least it knew to give him face in public. He could give it an extra meaty bone tonight.

Chi Yu curled his lips into a smile. "Is this what they call 'a dog relying on its master's power to bully others'?"

Ling Jue wasn't angry either, replying nonchalantly, "One must have power to rely on first."

The two men stood facing each other from a distance, holding their dog leashes, sparks flying between them.

Chi Yu was the first to ask, "I wonder where my Xiao Er has offended you, Mr. Ling? Aren't you and your dog a bit too aggressive?"

Moreover, if his memory served him right, this wasn't the first time Ling Jue had said those two words, was it?

Ling Jue shrugged. "I was just calling my own dog."

Chi Yu looked at him and smiled lightly. "That's good. Otherwise, I might have thought some dogs were jealous seeing other animals being more favored."

Ling Jue's face fell, his gaze icy as he stared at him.

He had disliked him for a long time.

Originally, he had arranged for a pet doctor to come to his home to check Caesar. But Qi Manjun heard someone mention this club and thought Caesar might be bored playing alone in the garden, so she had him sent over.

However, Qi Manjun had something come up last minute and couldn't come to pick up the dog, so Ling Jue was called to take Caesar home on his way. He just didn't expect to see Chi Yu and Qin Shuyi together.

Ling Jue had been simmering with anger for a long time, emanating a thick, dark aura.

Now, being poked where it hurt, his expression turned even more unfriendly.

But Chi Yu smiled and bent down to tease the Alaskan Malamute. "Only those who feel they're about to lose can't sit still."

Ling Jue sneered coldly. "A latecomer who hasn't even entered the game has no right to talk about winning or losing."

Just as Chi Yu was about to speak, a staff member came over to call him. "Mr. Chi, your girlfriend's cat has finished its shots. She's probably looking for you."

Chi Yu thanked them with a smile, then looked at the man whose face was as dark as if it had been smeared with ink. "It seems clearer who's out of the game."

Ling Jue found the confident smile on his face unbearably irritating and scoffed. "So-called winning means taking advantage of someone's absence to crown yourself with the title of her boyfriend?"

He knew Qin Shuyi—once she made a promise, she would never go back on her word.

Just how thick-skinned was this damn orthopedic surgeon, to brazenly pass himself off as a single lady’s boyfriend? It was enough to make his blood boil.

Did he think he could drive a wedge between them like this?

Chi Yu shrugged. “I can’t help it if others misunderstand. Maybe they just think we’re a better match, you know?”

Ling Jue’s thin lips pressed into a tight line. “Since when do you listen to blind people?”

Chi Yu thought to himself: …Being blind doesn’t really affect how credible someone’s words are, does it? See, he knew this guy was overly aggressive.

But obviously, the one more rattled wasn’t him.

Chi Yu maintained his smile. “Sorry, Shuyi might be waiting for me. Mr. Ling, I won’t keep you company any longer.”

With that, he handed both Xiao Er and Yuan Bao to the staff, specifically instructing them to keep the dogs away from that Alaskan Malamute named Caesar—preferably not even in the same area.

Then he went to pick up Qin Shuyi.

Two staff members walking the dogs started chatting. “That couple today was really stunning, and both of them were so gentle.”

    “Yeah, it’s been a while since we’ve seen such a well-matched pair.”

As they talked, they passed by another exceptionally good-looking guest.

One of them stole a glance.

A top-tier looker, but unfortunately, he seemed hard to approach—his aura was practically freezing over.

“They’re not a couple.” A faint grinding of teeth could be heard.

The staff members looked at the guest in surprise.

Ling Jue stared at them intently, then repeated through gritted teeth, “I said, they’re not a couple.”

    “Huh?”

Confusion was written all over their faces.
