Chapter 63 Why Such a Spoiled Baby?
by 喵总睡不醒Chapter 63: Why are you being such a baby?
Knowing Qin Shuyi would be upset if he didn’t go to the hospital, Ling Jue still went to the private hospital affiliated with the Ling Group for a simple check-up.
The ceiling light had actually fallen with quite some force. To protect Qin Shuyi, Ling Jue had taken almost the full impact himself, leaving his entire back covered in bruises. Fortunately, there was no internal organ damage.
After leaving the hospital, Ling Jue returned to his spacious apartment near the company.
It was empty inside, and his phone was as quiet as if the whole world had forgotten him.
He opened the refrigerator and took out a bottle of red wine.
The weariness from the pain wasn’t enough to make him fall asleep. He needed some alcohol to numb himself, to forget those bright, sparkling eyes in the café when she talked about the future with another man.
As the room grew dark, Ling Jue was already lying on the sofa, unaware of the time.
His body felt as if it were being roasted by fire, his head heavy and muddled.
Dimly, he felt someone placing a cooling patch on his forehead.
Ling Jue exercised regularly and had a strong physique, so he rarely fell ill.
The last time he'd had a fever was when Qin Shuyi had made plans with a colleague to go hiking. On their way down, they encountered heavy rain. Trying to help her colleague who'd slipped, Qin Shuyi had sprained her own ankle, forcing them to find shelter temporarily.
Upon learning this, Ling Jue immediately put aside his work and personally went to the mountain, carrying Qin Shuyi down step by step.
Rushing like that and getting drenched in the rain, once Qin Shuyi's ankle was treated, he had developed a mild fever.
Ling Jue had always been alone when he was sick as a child. Qi Manjun and Ling Mufeng were always busy, spending most of their time flying between domestic and international destinations.
After the nanny and doctor left, only the cold, empty house remained.
That’s why he disliked going to the hospital, disliked taking medicine, and disliked moments of vulnerability he couldn’t control.
But that time was the most enjoyable sick day he had ever experienced.
When Qin Shuyi wanted to be good to someone, she truly could make you feel comforted from head to toe.
Like a little bee buzzing around nectar, she hopped around him on one foot.
She coaxed him to drink porridge, coaxed him to take medicine, coaxed him to sleep, and, of course, managed to feed herself well in the process.
Two patients huddled together on the sofa on a stormy day, feeling inexplicably secure.
She lay on his chest, gently touched his nose, and teased him, “Ling Jue, why are you being such a baby?”
In the whole world, only Qin Shuyi would ever think Ling Jue was delicate.
Lying there, he pulled her up from his chest, intimately pressing his feverish forehead against hers, occasionally giving soft pecks to her tender cheeks, stroking her smooth, long hair over and over, full of tenderness yet tinged with a sigh.
“Baby~”
He murmured this term of endearment in his daze, his tone carrying an attachment he had never shown to anyone else.
He was holding someone's wrist.
Opening his eyes, he realized someone was truly by his side.
Only, it wasn’t the one he was thinking of.
Special Assistant Li looked horrified, awkwardly unsure whether to withdraw his hand or not.
Ling Jue quickly let go, furrowing his brows as he sat up from the sofa.
He still didn’t feel well, but he had already broken free from the dream of memories.
“Why are you here?”
“Ahem.” Special Assistant Li stood up straight, holding the cooling patch he had just removed.
“Miss Qin said you were injured and asked me to come check on you. I happened to find you running a fever.”
Ling Jue was silent for a moment. “Did she say anything else?”
Special Assistant Li opened his mouth. Actually, he had considered asking Qin Shuyi to come along.
But Qin Shuyi said that given their current relationship, it wasn’t appropriate.
He lowered his head. “No.”
He also wanted to sigh, thinking of the “Baby” Master Jue had called out in his dream.
Apart from Miss Qin, he couldn’t imagine who else he could have been calling.
Others might not know, but he was aware that despite Ling Jue’s seemingly flirtatious appearance, he had strong boundaries. Apart from Qin Shuyi, no other woman had ever set foot in his home.
He didn’t even like keeping a full staff at home.
More often than not, he was alone.
If you asked him, since he missed her so much, why did he break up in the first place?
He tentatively spoke up, “Should I call Miss Qin again?”
Ling Jue rubbed his temples. “No need.”
The man, no longer immersed in past tenderness, returned to his usual aloofness. “Thanks for today. You'll get a bonus this month. You can go rest now.”
Special Assistant Li hesitated, wanting to say more. “Then… should I call someone from the old mansion to take care of you?”
Ling Jue waved his hand dismissively.
Special Assistant Li could only leave helplessly.
After some thought, he sent a message to Qin Shuyi: “Miss Qin, Master Jue has a fever and doesn’t look well. He won’t let anyone stay with him.”
…
Qin Shuyi received this message just as she stepped out of the bathroom after a shower.
Drying her hair, her mind unexpectedly flashed back to the daytime—the tremor she felt when the ceiling light hit Ling Jue’s back as he shielded her, and the restrained expression on his face.
He has a fever?
She also recalled that drenched, yet intimate and warm rainy day.
The weather had changed suddenly that day. She and her colleague had thought they could make it down the mountain before the rain started, but they ended up with a fall and a sprained ankle.
She had called Ling Jue only to let him know she might be back very late.
She was also used to handling things herself.
She'd planned to set out again once the rain let up, thinking that moving slowly and carefully down the mountain should be fine. The only concern was that as two young women, it could be dicey after dark.
While waiting idly in the rain pavilion for the rain to stop, she never imagined that the man would appear on the damp mountain path before her, dressed in a suit and soaked from head to toe.
His shoulders were broad and sturdy. Perched on his back, holding an umbrella, she felt the path that had been so difficult to climb now seemed a little easier.
She thought that as a boyfriend, Ling Jue was more than qualified—he was a keeper.
He was really good to her; otherwise, no matter how influential he was, Qin Shuyi would have found a reason to break up with him long ago.
When Ling Jue was sick, he became a bit childish and clingy.
Qin Shuyi, mindful that his fever was because of her, was very indulgent toward him.
Throughout the day at home, wherever she went, Ling Jue followed, keeping her in a constant hug.
Amused and exasperated, she asked him, "What would you do if I weren't by your side?"
Ling Jue's reply was casual, yet it reflected the reality of many years: "I'd just tough it out."
After all, anything that didn't kill him wasn't a big deal. Even if it did, all it would amount to is a handful of ashes.
Qin Shuyi tossed the towel down in irritation.
Why did she have to run into him today, and why did an accident have to happen?
Visiting him while he was sick was out of the question. Seeing him would only complicate things.
But her conscience wouldn't allow her to feign ignorance after being informed of his condition.
After some thought, she took out her phone and removed a certain WeChat account from her blacklist.
