Chapter 139 Sweetpea
by 喵总睡不醒Chapter 139: Little Sweet Bean
Absolutely adorable.
Ling Jue was grinning from ear to ear as he leaned down and planted a loud, smacking kiss on her lips.
Then, he picked her up like a child, cradling her in the crook of his arm, took her for a spin around the living room until she was more awake, and finally deposited her in the bathroom.
Qin Shuyi gave him a puzzled look.
“I told you to take me back so I could get clothes from home,” she said, giving the man by the sink a light kick on the leg.
He squeezed toothpaste onto her toothbrush for her. “I’ve got some for you here.”
He had prepared clothes, shoes, and jewelry for Qin Shuyi, though the space here was too small compared to the walk-in closets in his other properties.
Qin Shuyi wasn’t the least bit surprised; back when they were together, he had always been in the habit of preparing these things for her.
But…
“Then why did you walk me around the living room?”
Ling Jue’s eyebrow quirked up. “You’re the one who wanted to be carried.”
He kissed her cheek again, his smile roguish. “If my baby wants to be held, of course I can’t refuse.”
Sitting on the edge of the sink, Qin Shuyi pinched the muscle on his arm. “You’re so childish.”
“But I’m *your* favorite childish one.”
Qin Shuyi neither admitted nor denied it, just commanded him again, “Get me my slippers.”
Ling Jue didn’t move, just looked at her, waiting expectantly.
Qin Shuyi wrapped her arms around his waist and swayed gently, sweetly pitching her voice higher.
“Boyfriend?”
Ling Jue beamed with satisfaction.
This was exactly the kind of perk that came with being the official boyfriend. His girl had two completely different sides for outsiders and her own people—ice cold and warmly sweet. To the outside world, she was an aloof goddess, but in a relationship, she was a little sweet bean, never putting on airs or acting coy.
Being coaxed by her like this could truly make a person feel like they were floating on cloud nine.
If only one day she would tell him she loved him, that would be even better.
The shift in her treatment of him overnight was so dramatic that Ling Jue practically floated out to fetch her slippers.
Qin Shuyi watched his grinning back and let out a soft snort of laughter.
…
The documentary filming was nearing its end. Though exhausted, Qin Shuyi didn’t take any more time off.
Ling Jue gave her a ride.
Seeing the man get out of the car with her, she raised an eyebrow. “Are you really sticking with the show?”
With Ling Jue’s status, he was always swamped with work; he must have already piled up a backlog.
Ling Jue took her hand without changing his expression. “I said I’d be your assistant, so I should see it through to the end.”
He had come for Qin Shuyi, and leaving right after getting back together would be ridiculous.
Not to mention, this was a rare opportunity to better understand her work, so Ling Jue naturally wouldn’t leave.
Besides, he hadn’t forgotten there was still a scheming green tea dog in the program group.
He was still in the probationary period now and was highly sensitive to potential threats.
Qin Shuyi nodded and didn’t try to persuade him otherwise.
Ling Jue was a grown man; he could weigh his own priorities. If he wanted to stay, then let him stay.
As they neared the entrance, Ling Jue came to an abrupt halt.
He watched Qin Shuyi let go of his hand, his eyes drooping slightly as he pressed his lips together.
Qin Shuyi, still unaware, naturally turned her head to look at him. “What’s wrong?”
Ling Jue stared at her smiling face and shook his head. “Nothing.”
But his heart sank a little.
He remembered that during their previous relationship, Qin Shuyi had never introduced him to her colleagues or friends.
She had never hidden the fact that she wasn’t single, but no one knew who her mysterious boyfriend was.
If not for that chance encounter and Ling Jue revealing his identity during the program filming, “Qin Shuyi’s ex-boyfriend” might have remained a vague symbol in everyone’s minds.
Did she let go of his hand because she still didn’t want to go public?
A colleague walked over from a distance, her eyes lighting up when she saw the two standing side by side.
“Shuyi, good morning~”
Qin Shuyi smiled back at her. “Morning.”
The colleague wasn’t familiar with Ling Jue. Even though he had been around everyone a lot lately, he only ever orbited Qin Shuyi.
People in the company only knew he had an extraordinary status and seemed quite aloof.
So she just smiled at Ling Jue as a greeting and spoke only to Qin Shuyi. “Did you… come together?”
They weren’t even speaking at the dinner party yesterday. What happened in just one night?
The atmosphere seemed really good.
Qin Shuyi curved her lips, about to nod, when Ling Jue replied calmly, “We happened to be heading the same way.”
If she didn’t want to say it, then he would respect her wishes.
He would strive to make her introduce him willingly.
A flicker of surprise passed through Qin Shuyi’s eyes. She looked at Ling Jue’s composed expression and pressed her red lips together.
Had she misunderstood?
Right, he had never been one to actively engage with the people around her before—family, friends, colleagues. In Ling Jue’s view, they were all insignificant, not worth him lowering his head to interact with.
Now that they've made up, it doesn't mean their mindsets can change right away.
He's made no secret of the fact that he's pursuing her.
But perhaps, for him, dating her and socializing with her friends and colleagues as Qin Shuyi's boyfriend are two separate matters.
She silently acknowledged his answer.
The colleague didn't pick up on the weird vibe and awkwardly chuckled, "Haha, I see. What a coincidence."
Qin Shuyi forced a slight smile.
The three of them stood awkwardly blocking the entrance, exchanging uncertain glances.
It was Director Tian, who arrived chewing on a steamed bun, who broke the silence.
The healing effect of "Kitchen of Flames" had been good, and everyone was in better spirits. For the latter half of the shoot, he wanted to explore another side of the embalmer profession.
"Hey, Miss Qin, what was it you mentioned about teaching everyone low-temperature damage repair and micro-sculpting eyebrow implantation today? Can you check if we have all the props ready?"
With that, Qin Shuyi naturally struck up a conversation with Director Tian, focusing on work.
Ling Jue watched them walk away for a few seconds before quietly following.
The colleague rubbed her chin, sensing something was off.
"What's on your mind?" Jiang Mulan slapped the back of her head. "Cosplaying 'The Thinker' first thing in the morning and blocking the entrance? Planning to block the clients' path to reincarnation while you're at it?"
The colleague covered her head and complained, "Boss, I suggest you get insurance for that mouth of yours."
Just in case it poisons someone someday, at least there'd be some compensation.
Oh, and it'd save on medical bills if someone decides to put a sack over your head.
Jiang Mulan retorted, "You human bodyguards are better than any insurance."
As the two bantered, the colleague quickly forgot the fleeting thought she'd had earlier and didn't delve further into Qin Shuyi and Ling Jue's relationship.
As Ling Jue and Qin Shuyi entered, the celebrity guests reacted with varied expressions.
Ling Jue's bold moves the previous night had involved several people. None of them had expected him to go to such lengths for a woman.
He had truly swallowed his pride.
Luo Yanning seemed somewhat evasive, Tang Wei remained relatively composed, while Shen Yaochuan wore a complex expression.
Had they reconciled?
Yesterday, he thought it might be a prelude to their breakup, unaware it was actually a sign of their reunion.
Or perhaps it was just Ling Jue clearing the way unilaterally to pursue Qin Shuyi more smoothly?
This was his first real crush; he wasn't about to let it go without a fight.
"Teacher Qin~" he greeted her with a smile as he approached.
