Chapter 179 Rather Kill Him Than Let Qin Shuyi Be With Another
by 喵总睡不醒Chapter 179: Rather Kill Him Than Let Qin Shuyi Be with Someone Else
Fate works in cycles.
The timeline had looped back to when they broke up, and Qin Shuyi was happily dating her blind date.
History was repeating itself, and he was still the one standing outside the window, unable to get near.
Ling Jue’s eyes were bloodshot and dark, swirling with consuming emotions.
The woman who said she didn’t want to fight with him had gone and sat with her ex-blind date in the cake shop filled with memories of them.
Right, it wasn’t the first time she had come here with this man.
The unique, private memories he thought were his and his alone had long been tainted by another man’s presence.
Qin Shuyi, how dare you?
How could you be this cruel?
His pride told him to just walk away and not embarrass himself.
They were people who had their families’ blessing, walking toward a bright, beautiful future together—he was the one who put obstacles in their way.
Perhaps she and Chi Yu were more suited for each other, free from gossip, jealousy, and other people’s drama, complicated family issues and a huge social circle.
Without Ling Jue, Qin Shuyi’s life would be easier.
She only liked him for his looks and body; she wasn’t that irreplaceable.
The black Maybach sat under the plane tree for a long time before slowly pulling away.
…
Inside the cake shop.
The two weren’t in some awkward rekindling-an-old-flame scenario that Ling Jue had imagined.
Qin Shuyi and Chi Yu had ended their blind date on good terms, and since their parents were acquainted, even though they hadn’t stayed in touch privately, they naturally wouldn’t just ignore each other after that chapter was over.
“Dr. Chi? Didn’t you go to the U.S. for an exchange?” Qin Shuyi asked, surprised.
Chi Yu smiled. “I applied to extend the exchange program to six months. I came back this time on leave for some personal business.”
He lifted the small cake in his hand. “I remembered this cake shop we went to before had pretty good flavors, so I thought I’d come back.”
Qin Shuyi curved her lips too. “They really do make great cakes.”
Ever since Ling Jue had professionals take over the shop, the owner focused on perfecting the desserts and upped their game; she’d heard they’d even won a few international awards recently.
She glanced at the box in Chi Yu’s hand. “Is that a cake blind box?”
Chi Yu nodded. “I later realized blind boxes are actually pretty fun, but this one today isn’t for me—it’s for Tingyu.”
Qin Shuyi looked at him. “You two…?”
Chi Yu said, “We didn’t get back together.”
He paused. “Her father, Professor Jiang, died. I came back for the funeral.”
“I’m sorry,” Qin Shuyi said instinctively.
Chi Yu shook his head. “Life, aging, sickness, and death are unavoidable. Everyone was prepared.”
Professor Jiang only came back home after treatment was hopeless, wanting to go back to his roots.
His life was inevitably ending.
Everyone had been ready for it for a long time; at least he didn’t suffer too much, and Jiang Tingyu was really strong.
As for Chi Yu and Jiang Tingyu, the past is the past—they couldn’t go back.
They had really loved each other, and they had really missed their chance. Even though they’d both grown up and learned how to love better, once that moment was gone, the people who’d moved on couldn’t come back.
His eyes swept over Qin Shuyi’s face.
She seemed to be doing well—compared to their last meeting during the mountain hike, she was even more radiant, at ease, and composed.
A faint smile appeared in his eyes.
Qin Shuyi was that kind of person: no matter when, where, or under what circumstances, she always treated herself well, open and free, and even those who approached her felt the sunshine.
Not a scorching sun, but a gentle, nourishing presence like a spring breeze.
“Tingyu often mentions you. I don’t know what you talked about that day, but her mood improved a lot afterward.”
Once her stubbornness passed, she became the optimistic, cheerful Jiang Tingyu again.
Now she’s quickly getting the hang of hospital work.
Even after her father’s death, she found a new purpose in life, saying she wanted to refine her medical skills and become a healer like her father.
As for Chi Yu, she had also accepted the regret of love coming at the wrong time.
He had helped a bit with the funeral arrangements, and the two truly got along like fellow disciples.
Qin Shuyi pressed her lips together. “Dr. Jiang is very talented. I hope she achieves her goals.”
The topic was a bit heavy. Chi Yu looked at her empty hands. “Are you here to buy cake too?”
Qin Shuyi nodded.
“For my boyfriend.”
Chi Yu was stunned.
After a moment of silence, he asked, “Is it Ling Jue?”
Qin Shuyi nodded. “Yeah, we decided to give it another try.”
A faint, subtle curve appeared on Chi Yu’s lips. He wasn’t really surprised—that man’s affection and possessiveness were impossible to hide.
But perhaps out of selfishness, this usually easygoing person didn’t feel like offering words of blessing.
Qin Shuyi checked the time. “It’s almost time for him to get off work. I should be going.”
She hadn’t chosen her cake yet.
Chi Yu watched her face as she flipped through the dessert menu, not interrupting her, but also not looking away.
Each extra minute they sat there felt like it stretched their fleeting memories a little longer.
Thinking back now, perhaps the ending was set from the moment that cake blind box was chosen.
Just let him savor this one more second.
...
But Chi Yu didn't even get the few minutes of quiet time he wanted.
A screech tore through the asphalt road outside the glass window.
It was the sound of a luxury car that had already driven off, reversing at high speed and braking sharply.
The Maybach stopped in its original spot, the tires nearly smoking from the violent skid.
A tall, striking man stepped out of the car and stormed toward the shop with heavy, furious strides.
The wind chime on the door jingled as the sharp-featured, imposing man made a beeline for them.
"Baby, did you get the cake?"
He plopped down next to Qin Shuyi and slung an arm over her shoulder.
Screw stepping aside!
Even if it killed him, he'd never let Qin Shuyi end up with another man.
He was the legitimate boyfriend, the one Qin Shuyi's aunt invited home, the one called "brother-in-law" by her younger siblings—why the hell should he skulk around in hiding?
That decent-looking quack of an orthopedic doctor should be the one staying out of his way.
Hadn't three months in M Country been enough for him?
He couldn't even wait until his term was up before crawling back to hit on her.
Might as well ship him off to South Africa for support, let him rot there for ten or twenty years.
Better yet, let that annoying face of his get tanned into charcoal, a few degrees uglier, so he'd stop shamelessly poaching other people's partners.
A hypocritical fake—if Qin Shuyi had just listened to him and taken a nap, she wouldn't have been so drowsy that she got starry-eyed over another man.
Ling Jue's tone was still sweet and syrupy, but his whole vibe screamed "catching a cheater."
He pulled Qin Shuyi so close she was practically in his lap, while his eyes blazed at Chi Yu sitting across from him.
Qin Shuyi and Chi Yu were both stunned for a second.
