Chapter 154: Baby, This Is Normal

Once they were away from that unhinged couple, Ling Jue suddenly chuckled.

He took Qin Shuyi's hand—the one she'd used to slap someone—and kissed it. "My, aren't we feisty."

Qin Shuyi shot him a sidelong glance. "Looking for a beating too?"

Ling Jue flashed a roguish grin. "You wouldn't, would you?"

He figured he was on her list of people to protect now.

She was usually such a gentle and tolerant baby, but whenever she faced anyone who offended her family, she turned into a prickly cactus, feisty and cute.

He couldn't resist leaning in to kiss her soft, plump cheek.

    This was the best.

Being included in Qin Shuyi's circle was the happiest thing in the world.

Startled by his sneak attack, Qin Shuyi covered her face and gave him an annoyed glare. "Ling Jue, are you sure you aren't just touch-starved?"

Ever since they reconciled, he took every opportunity to cuddle. Even back when they were dating, he'd wanted to sleep skin-to-skin every night, practically naked.

Ling Jue's lips curved upward. "I am. I'm starving for you, baby. I want to eat you up every day. Can you satisfy me?"

*Smack*—A hand covered his mouth, shutting him up.

    "Ling Jue, shut up."

Her lively anger meant she'd gotten the earlier irritation with those nobodies out of her system.

Ling Jue smiled and chased after her to continue teasing.

    "Baby~"

In just a few steps, they were already clinging to each other.

When they reached the register, Ling Jue suddenly stopped.

Just as Qin Shuyi was wondering why, he silently added over a dozen boxes of various "tools" to their shopping cart right in front of her.

    Qin Shuyi's eye twitched.

    They looked at each other.

One was utterly shameless; the other was speechless.

The cashier looked them over, a teasing smile that seemed to say 'someone's got it good'—though it was unclear who that someone was.

Qin Shuyi was blunt and bold in private, but she still wasn't as thick-skinned as someone when out in public.

She turned away, resisting the urge to throw the items back on the shelf, and pulled Ling Jue toward the self-checkout machine.

Faintly, she seemed to hear a stifled laugh from the cashier behind them.

Qin Shuyi's cheeks burned. She pinched Ling Jue's waist hard.

Ling Jue grinned widely, lowered his head, hugged her, and kissed her again, utterly shameless.

    "Baby, this is normal."

Qin Shuyi rolled her eyes at him.

Hmph, let him be smug. She hoped he'd still be smiling by tonight.

    ...

On the drive home, Qin Shuyi briefly explained the two people they had just encountered to Ling Jue.

After Qian Shu and Zhou Tinglan divorced, he was no longer considered proper family, and they didn't have to deal with him. But since they had run into them, even if Ling Jue didn't ask, Qin Shuyi felt she had to mention it.

Since they were integrating into each other's lives, being open about family and friend relationships was necessary.

"That's my former uncle-in-law. We haven't had much contact since he and my aunt divorced."

"They came to the capital this time to get treatment for the son from his later marriage. A few days ago, he went to see Youyou. Youyou already told my aunt today, so it seems they haven't received the warning yet."

Otherwise, Zhang Meiyue wouldn't have been able to resist provoking us.

Ling Jue frowned. "Want me to run them out of the city?"

He hadn't forgotten that the woman had insulted both his future mother-in-law and his wife.

And that Qian Shu—outwardly, he stepped in to block a slap aimed at Qin Shuyi, but in reality, he probably knew his baby had learned some martial arts from her dad. If it had really come to blows, Zhang Meiyue would have been beaten even worse.

It's just that his foolish wife didn't realize it.

His baby was still too kind and easy to bully, only giving one slap.

In his opinion, if someone couldn't control their mouth, they shouldn't keep their teeth either.

    His gaze darkened.

Qin Shuyi glanced at him and shook her head. "No need, don't get involved. Since my aunt already knows, let her handle it."

She looked at Ling Jue. "If we see them again in the future, just treat them as strangers."

She thought her former uncle-in-law might prefer to deal with that couple personally.

Ling Jue nodded regretfully but obediently. "As my girlfriend commands."

If his baby said no, then he wouldn't act.

After a moment's thought, he decided to share a major recent development in his own family.

"Baby, Ms. Qi is in the process of divorcing Ling Mufeng."

His voice was calm, but Qin Shuyi detected a hint of coldness.

Back at the cemetery, when she suggested it to Ms. Qi, it was purely out of revenge for Ling Mufeng threatening her family. She hadn't really held any expectations.

After all, marriages in major families were interconnected; moving one part affected the whole.

Yet Ling Jue disclosed their divorce so matter-of-factly, implying it was already in the final stages, which surprised her.

"He agreed to it?" Qin Shuyi asked.

Although she had only met him briefly, she could tell Ling Mufeng loved Qi Manjun.

The Lings probably all have a crazy, obsessive streak in them. Ling Mufeng doesn't seem like someone who gives up easily.

Ling Jue tapped his fingers on the steering wheel, a hint of mockery appearing on his face. "He'll come around."

He didn't elaborate on how he forced him to sign, simply saying, "The paperwork should be finalized in the next couple of days."

He pursed his lips. "The only family I acknowledge is Ms. Qi. From now on, if you see Ling Mufeng again, you don't have to be nice to him."

Qin Shuyi looked up at him.

    "Is your relationship that bad?"

He had never really explained his relationship with his family in detail before.

Ling Jue said flatly, "My uncle was more of a father to me. Ling Mufeng and I are more like strangers than father and son."

They barely interacted, and there was virtually no familial affection between them.

Qin Shuyi's fingers stilled for a moment as she looked at Ling Jue.

While stopped at a red light, Ling Jue turned to look at her and smiled. "What's wrong? Sad you won't get a pain-in-the-neck father-in-law? Or do you feel bad for your boyfriend?"

    He was deliberately teasing her.

Qin Shuyi didn't say anything, just reached out and lightly scratched the palm of the hand he was holding.

Ling Jue felt his heart skip a beat, a sensation of being enveloped in warm water.

Unfortunately, the red light soon turned green. He reluctantly withdrew his hand and accelerated.

His baby had said: no holding hands while driving, no driving while holding hands.

    ...

As soon as they entered the house, the grocery bags were tossed aside. Ling Jue pinned her against the edge of the table.

    "Baby, a kiss?"

He'd been wanting to do that the whole ride home.

Qin Shuyi didn't refuse either. She threw her arms around his neck and pulled him close.

In the quiet, private space, their warm lips and tongues met, leaving a trail of damp, intimate sounds. Ling Jue held her slender waist with one hand and cupped the back of her head with the other, lost in savoring her warmth.

Qin Shuyi yielded, opening her mouth to him.

His heart felt as if being gently tickled by a feather. Fate had always been kind to him. How did he get so lucky to have a Qin Shuyi like this?

Time slipped away unnoticed in the lovers' kiss until the sky darkened. Her lips were swollen and red, and the corners of her eyes were wet with tears from the intensity.

He kissed her eyelids tenderly, their shared intimacy having left him painfully aroused and ready.

His eyes were dark and deep, his voice hoarse, carrying a hint of pleading and a playful whine.

"Baby, shall we eat a little later?"

Qin Shuyi moved her hand on his shoulder, her fingers curling slightly.
