Chapter 11: Never Noticed Before How Handsome Shen Yu Is
byChapter 11: Since When Did I Think Shen Yu Was So Handsome?
Bai Yeye is a big eater, but he's adorable. Plus, since he's the dog Shen Yu brought back, everyone dropped their guard around him and even took him along to sit by the fire and gossip that evening.
A bunch of burly alphas took turns roasting marshmallows for him. Bai Yeye sat happily among them, his fluffy tail wagging.
Gu Yuankai reached out to pet him, but Bai Yeye dodged warily: "You can feed me, but no touching!"
He was still an unmarried little omega—he couldn't have just anyone touching him.
Gu Yuankai withdrew his hand with a mock complaint: "You ungrateful little thing. I went out especially to buy you five big bags of marshmallows, and now after scarfing them all down, you won't even let me touch you?"
"My master said I can't be touched!"
"Oh? Is your master that white-haired beauty? Tell me more!" Gu Yuankai was still hung up on that matter.
As soon as he finished speaking, Shen Yu's spaceship pilot excitedly rushed over and grabbed his arm: "You've seen him too?!"
"You've seen him too?"
The pilot blushed: "The general gave him a ride on the ship once. I only caught a glimpse and was so stunned I couldn't even speak. Too bad the security cameras were broken afterward—otherwise, I would've pulled it up and made it my wallpaper!"
Bai Yeye lay guiltily on the floor. Good thing he'd disabled their cameras when he left.
The alphas started chattering: "What's the deal? Is he really the general's lover?"
"How good-looking is he? Don't just blush and shut up."
The pilot started grinning just at the thought. He chuckled a couple times before going on: "I don't know if he's the general's lover, but he's really stunning. Even the Crown Prince's consort can't compare."
"Really? Prettier than the Crown Prince's consort?"
"No way. I've seen the Crown Prince's consort—one look and you're mesmerized. How could anyone be more beautiful than him?"
Bai Yeye chimed in, "That's right, that's right! Brother Ruoshui is the most beautiful in the whole galaxy!"
Bai Yeye loved Bai Ruoshui more than anyone because he was the gentlest in the family.
"Brother Ruoshui?" Gu Yuankai looked at him curiously.
Bai Yeye lowered his head: "He knows my master, so I call him brother too."
"So the Crown Prince's consort knows your master? Could he be his younger brother? Otherwise, how could he be that good-looking?"
Before Bai Yeye could answer, someone else refuted Gu Yuankai: "That can't be right. The Crown Prince's consort's younger brother is Long Tianao, isn't he?"
Hearing that ridiculously pretentious name, Bai Yeye's ears turned red. He lay down quietly, listening to them talk about him.
"Do you guys think Long Tianao's even capable? He hasn't even shown his face, and he wants to conquer the galaxy?"
"I bet the seer made a mistake. The general stands a much better chance of uniting the galaxy. Too bad the general isn't interested, sigh!"
"Yeah, if the general had that intention, Long Tianao wouldn't have a chance."
"Well, you can't say that. We don't know how strong Long Tianao is, but Long Shen and Long Rui are obviously powerful. His other father is also the clan leader of the merfolk. With all that combined power, they might actually install him on the throne someday."
"Long Shen, Long Rui—they're nothing compared to the general. And that Bai Ningxin—what can one omega do?"
"Don't underestimate Bai Ningxin. He's a clan leader, so his combat ability must be top-notch."
"No matter how strong, he's just an omega. How can he compete with us?"
These were Shen Yu's men, so of course they'd take his side. But hearing this really pissed Bai Yeye off. Why were they putting others down just to feel superior?
"Hey, hey, hey! Why are you biting people?!"
"Hold him, hold him!"
"He's too heavy—can't hold him!"
Their shouting was so loud it even disturbed Shen Yu in his office.
"What are you doing? ... Bai Yeye, stop!" Shen Yu came down himself and carried Bai Yeye off, saving the soldier from the dog's mouth.
"Why did you bite someone?"
Bai Yeye glared at him defiantly: "Your men are looking down on omegas. You gonna do something about that?"
The alpha who got bitten retorted: "When did I ever look down on omegas?"
"You just said, 'An omega can't compare to us'!"
"So what? Omegas really can't compare to us."
"Yeah, what's wrong with that?"
"Don't alphas do all the fighting and marching? Omegas are at best field medics. Has any omega ever actually been on the battlefield?"
Most alphas sided with him, and the rest either kept silent or didn't support Bai Yeye.
Bai Yeye looked at them, disappointed. He hadn't met many people, but in his family, alphas and omegas were equal. Neither Long Shen nor Long Rui ever flaunted their alpha status in front of him. Why were these alphas like this?
He hated these people. He didn't want to stay here anymore.
Just as Bai Yeye turned to leave, Shen Yu's cold, cutting voice rang out: "So you're proud of being alphas, thinking that omegas who manage the household are completely useless?"
At Shen Yu's words, the previously agitated alphas fell silent. After stammering for a while, they finally said: "That's not what we meant."
"Then what did you mean? Going to war is hard and life-threatening, but omegas also risk their lives in childbirth. Do you think it's appropriate to feel superior to them?"
The alphas' faces turned pale and red by turns, their necks heavy as if weighed down by a thousand pounds of concrete, unable to lift their heads.
Shen Yu said no more and turned to go back to his office.
Bai Yeye, like a victorious little dog, snorted at them and wiggled his round butt as he followed Shen Yu.
"What they said was wrong, but they're not bad at heart. Don't take it to heart." Shen Yu knew them—deep down, they had those prejudices, but they also had responsibilities and a sense of duty. He couldn't condemn everyone because of a few words.
Bai Yeye said proudly: "I'm not going to stoop to their level."
"Alright. If there's nothing else, you can go out now."
Bai Yeye jumped onto the sofa and lay on it, looking at Shen Yu: "I don't want to be around them."
He was easily emotional—if he hated someone, he didn't want to be near them.
"You have your own room." He had just prepared a small room for Bai Yeye to use as a resting area.
"No. I want to stay here with you."
Likewise, he wants to hang out with whoever he likes.
Shen Yu said without looking up, "I'll be dealing with stuff until very late."
He often doesn't turn in until late at night.
"It's fine, I also go to bed late. Ha~" Bai Yeye yawned as he said that, then flopped onto the sofa and started dozing off.
Just as he was about to fall asleep, Shen Yu draped a fluffy little blanket over him.
Bai Yeye cracked his eyes open and saw Shen Yu's tall silhouette heading back to his desk to get back to work.
Why hadn't he noticed before that Shen Yu was so handsome?
