Chapter 32: You're the Cutest YeYe

Before he could finish the last half of the sentence, Shen Yu fainted.

When he woke up again, he was still lying on the same bed. Bai Yeye lay beside him, his left front paw wrapped in layers of bandages.

"YeYe, YeYe." Disregarding his own condition, Shen Yu first checked on Bai Yeye.

Bai Yeye slowly opened his eyes and only smiled after seeing that he was fine. "You're okay now... The Stinky Old Man kept his word after all—he didn't lie to me."

"How did you get hurt?"

Bai Yeye had not only bandages on him but also his snow-white fur stained with blood, making him look pitiful.

"It's nothing, I'll be fine after some rest." Bai Yeye closed his eyes again.

After Shen Yu fainted, he used all his strength to grab the knife and slash his own arm. When feeding his blood to Shen Yu turned out useless, he tried to stab his own heart. It was only then that Wu Shao stopped him and promised to save Shen Yu.

Though he had no idea what had gotten into that old man, at least they were both fine now.

Detecting the taste of blood in his mouth, Shen Yu suddenly understood something. He stayed by Bai Yeye's side in silence.

Bai Yeye slept for a long time, waking only because hunger roused him.

Shen Yu leaned down and whispered gently in his ear, "What do you want to eat?"

Bai Yeye mumbled drowsily, "Grill me all the cows north of the Yangtze River and all the sheep south of it."

Shen Yu laughed despite himself—the hunger had made him delirious.

He first gave Bai Yeye some biscuits and water, then went to the kitchen to prepare food.

While cooking, he ran into Wu Shao, whose expression was still grim. But he didn't give Shen Yu a hard time; he just said they'd leave tomorrow and went back to his pharmacy.

Shen Yu didn't ask him what his true motive had been earlier. First, he'd save the others, then settle the score for hurting Bai Yeye!

"Ahh, that hit the spot." Bai Yeye, full and content, flopped onto the bed like a lord and patted his round little belly.

He was satisfied, but the only pot in Wu Shao's place was nearly ruined by Shen Yu's stir-frying.

"Wu Shao says we leave tomorrow. Let me bathe you, then you can sleep, okay?" Shen Yu didn't like seeing blood on Bai Yeye; he should be as clean as a little coconut cake.

"Okay." Bai Yeye didn't want to go home with bloodstains either; Bai Ruoshui would worry.

When he was injured before, Shen Yu had also bathed him. The first time was awkward, the second time they were much more in sync.

But unlike before, Bai Yeye thought Shen Yu was looking at him oddly.

"Is your eye twitching?"

"Why do you say that?"

"Because every time you look at me, you turn away, then look back again. Do I look that bad?" Bai Yeye asked directly.

Shen Yu was speechless. Of course that wasn't the reason. He was imagining what Bai Yeye would look like as a human—probably chubby but still cute.

He didn't say it outright for fear of scaring Bai Yeye off. What if he had a good reason not to turn human?

"Why aren't you talking?"

"I was wondering whether Wu Shao could cure them when we get back."

"Don't worry, he definitely can." Wu Shao's character might be questionable, but his medical skills were top-notch.

Shen Yu dropped the topic, dried Bai Yeye's fur after his bath, and turned him into a fluffy, soft, fragrant little YeYe cake.

Bai Yeye stood in front of the mirror, admiring himself: "So cute. No wonder so many people like me."

Shen Yu's mind went blank, and he blurted out, "Has anyone proposed to you?"

Bai Yeye played dumb: "Proposed?"

Shen Yu played along, "Isn't pet breeding a big thing these days?"

"Not really. Dad said we'd talk about it when I'm older." Hardly anyone outside had seen him, so how could they propose?

He remembered asking his other family members when he could get married after seeing Bai Ruoshui's wedding. Long Shen said he'd have to wait till he grew up, or else he'd break his legs.

Shen Yu casually probed, "How many are in your family? ... How many dogs?"

"Let me count. There's Mom and Dad, and about seven or eight brothers (older and younger)." Bai Yeye fudged the number, afraid Shen Yu would connect it to his identity.

"What are your parents like? Any distinctive traits?" Shen Yu didn't know why he was asking, but he just wanted to.

Bai Yeye thought for a moment: "Dad's special trait is that he has a special trait—he vanishes with my mom every night. Oh, and sometimes during the day too."

Shen Yu didn't know what expression he was making. This ungrateful little mutt.

Wu Shao kept his word and set off with them the next day. Before leaving, Shen Yu and Bai Yeye ransacked the Wei family arena, taking all the gold and treasures.

Shen Yu was ruthless, which earned him praise from Bai Yeye: "I was worried you'd go soft."

"Impossible."

Shen Yu only showed mercy to good people. For scum like them, even killing was letting them off easy.

But he wasn't being so harsh for himself—it was for Bai Yeye, who had been scared to tears that day.

Wu Shao watched them silently, squinting slightly.

This man and dog worked together seamlessly, easily taking down a major interstellar threat. From their performance, Wu Shao could see them uniting the galaxy someday.

The three returned to the base. Bai Ruoshui greeted them joyfully.

"YeYe!"

"Brother!" Bai Yeye happily pounced forward.

"You've lost weight! Have you not been eating enough? Your big brother has prepared a lot of food for you. Go eat quickly." Bai Ruoshui said with deep concern.

Bai Yeye happily ran off to the dining hall to eat, while Shen Yu and Wu Shao remained where they were.

Bai Ruoshui then bowed to them: "Master, General Shen."

Wu Shao pulled out a bottle of medicinal powder and handed it to him: "Don't say I didn't try to help."

Bai Ruoshui took the powder and said joyfully: "Is this the antidote for the Gu poison? Thank you, Master!"

"Nope, this is medicine for your eyes."
