Chapter 42: I’m the Boss of the Yeye Crew

After careful consideration, Bai Ruoshui decided not to bring up Long Rui and Bai Yeye’s situation for now, and instead simply discuss the feelings between Shen Yu and Bai Yeye.

“General Shen, Yeye is practically my little brother. Since his family isn’t here right now, as his brother, I need to talk with you about the relationship between you two.”

“What do you want to talk about?”

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to block you.” Bai Ruoshui explained first, then continued: “Yeye has been well protected by his family. He hasn’t had much contact with people since he was young. He can handle big things on his own, but for everyday things, he still has a childlike mentality. To be blunt, he can still be very childish sometimes, and he likes to cling to people and beg them to play.”

Shen Yu listened quietly without interrupting.

“You’ve got more life experience than him, so you see things from a different angle. I’m worried that when you two spend time together, you might not click with each other’s styles…”

“Afraid that I’ll find him childish, or afraid that he’ll find me too old-fashioned?”

Bai Ruoshui seemed about to speak but stopped. Probably both. It’s not that either side is wrong; they just might not be compatible.

Shen Yu scored major points with that, because Bai Ruoshui had expected him to say he’d teach Yeye to grow up, but instead Shen Yu said he’d adapt.

Still, Bai Ruoshui wouldn’t be completely reassured by just one sentence. After all, some people say one thing and do another later—though Shen Yu was certainly not that type.

“General Shen, the future is a long haul. Are you sure you’ll keep that patience for the long haul?”

The lifespan of a mermaid or a Taotie is at least five hundred years, up to a thousand or more. One or two years might be fine, but over time, unless they truly love each other to the core, they’d end up sick of each other.

Shen Yu said firmly: “Talking is useless, but I’ll prove it with my actions from now on.”

General Shen never talks big; he just gets things done.

Bai Ruoshui then asked: “What if Yeye isn’t good-looking when he transforms into human form?”

He stared intently at Shen Yu’s face, not letting any expression slip by. If Shen Yu showed even a hint of hesitation, he’d put a stop to it.

Shen Yu’s expression remained unchanged: “If I really wanted someone good-looking, wouldn’t it have been faster to choose you back then?”

“…I forgot that was a thing.”

At the end, Bai Ruoshui asked another question: “Do you really like him?”

“If I didn’t, why would I be here having this long talk with you?”

“Then I hope you can promise me one last thing.”

“Say it.” Shen Yu didn’t agree immediately.

Bai Ruoshui pursed his lips: “Before you’re certain about marriage, no overly flirtatious moves on Yeye.”

If Shen Yu saw Bai Yeye’s human form, he might even… As an older brother, he had to look out for his little brother.

Bai Ruoshui still didn’t fully understand Bai Yeye. In fact, it was actually Bai Yeye who was eyeing Shen Yu’s body.
