Chapter 22: Sneaking a Bite of Herbs

"Who's asking you! Stinky Old Man! When I find you, I'll bite you to death!" Bai Yeye barked arrogantly.

Bai Ruoshui covered his mouth and said helplessly, "Master, I apologize for YeYe's rudeness. Please, I implore you..."

"Bai Ruoshui, you need to understand that giving him a chance to plead is already doing you a favor. Do you think I'm a good person?"

Wu Shao wasn't necessarily malicious, but he was indeed no saint—he had often ignored dying people. Bai Ruoshui was afraid that if he said too much, Wu Shao would abandon the matter entirely.

"I know I was wrong. I'll leave with YeYe today."

"He comes, but you don't. Otherwise, I'll make sure you never find me. You can try if you don't believe me."

    "Why?"

"Because I don't want to put you in a difficult spot." Wu Shao was frank. Though his tone toward Bai Ruoshui was harsh, Bai Ruoshui was his only disciple. Deep down, he wouldn't let Bai Ruoshui suffer.

    "Master... Master!"

Bai Ruoshui tried to plead further, but Wu Shao ruthlessly cut off the connection.

Bai Yeye proudly wagged his tail: "Brother Ruoshui, don't be afraid! Give me the address—I'll go bite him until he agrees to come!"

Like a newborn calf, Bai Yeye feared nothing. He only feared two things in life: upsetting his mermaid father, and angering his handsome Brother Ruoshui. No one else scared him!

Bai Ruoshui crouched down and held him: "YeYe, listen to your brother. Go back, okay?"

    "I won't!"

As soon as Bai Yeye said that, he felt a numbness in his back, and his front paws collapsed weakly.

Luckily, Bai Ruoshui caught him before he hit the floor.

Bai Ruoshui looked at his face, his expression lacking its usual gentleness, replaced by cold anger: "You promised your brother you wouldn't use your blood to save others."

Bai Yeye explained anxiously, "But that's Gu Yuankai—we're friends..."

"I know he's a friend and a good person. But do you understand how dangerous this is? If others found out, they'd stop at nothing to get your blood. Do you want your family to live in constant fear?"

His family was strong, but they weren't all-powerful. A single slip-up, and they couldn't bear the consequences.

Thankfully, Bai Ruoshui was there today. Otherwise, if anyone became suspicious, things would get difficult.

Bai Yeye looked at him pleadingly: "I'm sorry, Brother. Don't be angry. How about this—I promise you, once I finish asking that Stinky Old Man for help, I'll go home. I won't cause any more trouble."

Bai Ruoshui turned away coldly, stubbornly saying: "I don't need you. I'll handle it myself. You just go home."

"But he'll bully you! Brother, let me go." Bai Yeye knew this task would be rough. He'd rather endure hardship himself than let Bai Ruoshui go.

"Master isn't kind to me, but he won't be too harsh."

"But he said if I don't go, you won't find him. Then it'll delay the treatment. Think about all those people suffering from the Gu poison."

Bai Ruoshui's eyes showed a hint of reluctance, but he firmly refused: "I'll deal with it. Don't interfere."

He couldn't stand to see innocent people suffer, but his little brother was also innocent.

Bai Ruoshui wasn't a saint—he couldn't sacrifice his own brother for others.

"Brother..." Bai Yeye tried to say something else, but Bai Ruoshui administered another shot of sedative, leaving him too weak to speak.

Bai Yeye felt himself losing consciousness. He bit his tongue to keep from passing out.

As Bai Ruoshui carried him out, they happened to bump into Shen Yu.

"Is he sick again?" Shen Yu reached out to pet Bai Yeye's head.

Bai Ruoshui stepped back, sidestepping his hand: "Mm, he's sick. I need to send him back to his owner. Thank you for looking after him, General Shen. If there's a chance in the future, YeYe will come back to thank you."

Shen Yu withdrew his hand reluctantly: "No need to be polite. Let him go home and rest well."

"Mm. Farewell." Bai Ruoshui didn't linger, eager to send Bai Yeye away quickly.

Bai Yeye rested his head on Bai Ruoshui's shoulder. As they left, he looked at Shen Yu with pleading eyes, weakly mouthing a word.

    "Help me."

Shen Yu saw it but didn't stop them. That shattered Bai Yeye's last spark of hope, and his eyes dimmed.

Would he never get out again after returning? Could Bai Ruoshui persuade Wu Shao? Would Lex be threatened? Would Shen Yu remember him in the future...

That was the last question Bai Yeye thought of before passing out. When he woke up again, he was on a strange spaceship.

He thought it was the ship sending him back to Romar. He buried his face in the blanket, wiping away tears. *Ugh, I really have to go back.*

    "Still feeling unwell?"

A deep, magnetic voice spoke. Bai Yeye froze, then looked up in surprise.

    Shen Yu!

    "Why are you here?"

"I hijacked the ship that was sending you back." Shen Yu said that and felt a bit silly.

He used to hunt down spaceship hijackers, and now he had become one himself.

Bai Yeye then noticed that the people escorting him back had all been knocked out by Shen Yu.

He excitedly stood up and pounced onto Shen Yu: "I love you!!"

Shen Yu actually came to save him!

Shen Yu caught him and staggered back three or four steps, unconsciously gritting his teeth.

When would Bai Yeye learn to appreciate his own weight?

"Don't get too happy. First, tell me what's going on." Shen Yu had stopped the ship, but he wasn't planning on just taking Bai Yeye back.

He rescued him because he didn't want him to suffer, but this wasn't his dog—he had to respect the original master's wishes.

Bai Yeye quickly summarized: "Brother Ruoshui's master said I have to go beg him before he'll come out. Brother Ruoshui was afraid I'd be mistreated, so he sent me away overnight. I'm not lying! You can use a truth detector!"

He just concealed a few things—such as his identity and the fact that he had disobeyed by using his own blood.

Shen Yu believed him, but he found it strange: "Why would the master physician want you to beg him?"

He had met Bai Ruoshui's master a few times and remembered him as a very difficult person. But he didn't seem like someone who would go out of his way to pick on a little dog, did he?

Bai Yeye looked guilty: "Maybe because I accidentally ate some of his herbs. He's so stingy—just a little bit, and he got mad! Who told him to leave them out in the sun? I thought they were sun-dried vegetables... They smelled pretty good..."

    "A little bit?"

"Just the size of a sports field, that's all. Not much."

    "..."
