Chapter 15: He’s That Amazing?

Shen Yu had never been exactly respectful to the emperor, but he had at least maintained basic courtesy.

Speaking so harshly today was practically no different from rebellion.

"Are you hurt?" Bai Ruoshui grabbed his little paws to inspect them, scared of finding even a scratch.

"No, with him protecting me, how could I get hurt?" Bai Yeye pointed at Shen Yu with his paw.

Bai Ruoshui nodded to Shen Yu in thanks, "Sorry for troubling you again, General."

Shen Yu sat down on his own: "This time, I should thank him. Without him starting this, I wouldn't have broken ties with the emperor."

Bai Yuanzhou grinned: "Broke ties? How exactly?"

"I told him that if he wants me dead, he can come at me directly."

"Haha, that bastard emperor must’ve been shitting his pants?"

"Pretty much."

The emperor didn't even dare to confront him on the spot; he only started yelling after leaving the prince's mansion.

Bai Yeye tilted his head: "Isn't he your father?"

Bai Yuanzhou spat: "How could that bastard father someone as exceptional as me? My parents died early when I was young—I was adopted by him."

Bai Yuanzhou had wanted to respect him, but his actions were too outrageous. Corrupt, incompetent, obsessed with pleasure, and treating lives like they were nothing. If his grandfather hadn't begged him repeatedly on his deathbed not to go to war unless it was absolutely necessary, he would have acted long ago.

Bai Ruoshui closed the door and hesitated: "Technically, I shouldn't ask about the affairs of the Lex planet..."

"Why can't you ask? You're my wife—you can know anything." Bai Yuanzhou had never hidden anything from him; he just hadn't brought it up for fear of worrying him.

"I want to know why you're planning to start a war. Yeye is one of us and won't spread it. If you're willing, you can speak in front of him."

Bai Yuanzhou didn't hide anything: "Do you still remember the incident where space pirates hijacked over a hundred people?"

"Yes, wasn't it already resolved?"

"They weren't after money—they wanted Shen Yu dead. Most crucially, they had toxic gas bombs that had long been banned. You should know, wife, that only the emperor is allowed to stockpile a few of those. Ordinary space pirates couldn't get their hands on them unless the emperor gave them!"

Bai Yeye's smile faded. How could the emperor be so evil? He was willing to risk hundreds of lives just to kill Shen Yu!

Bai Ruoshui broke out in a cold sweat: "So he colluded with space pirates..."

Shen Yu said coldly: "He didn't just collude with them—he's the one who created them!"

"What?"

"He's always had huge expenses. At first, we thought the money was going to the red-light districts and didn't investigate. Now we've found that the money's whereabouts are unclear. Shen Yu and I suspect he's been secretly supporting a large number of space pirates and constantly expanding their ranks."

Most of the military power was already in the hands of Shen Yu and Bai Yuanzhou. Knowing he couldn't take it back by force, the emperor found another way: cultivating space pirates.

Space pirates might not compare to a regular army in combat strength, but they were ruthless and wouldn't hesitate to use dirty tactics that endanger others.

If they took hostages from the populace, things would get difficult. People would inevitably get hurt or die. So Shen Yu's plan was to eliminate the dangerous elements within the Lex planet first, then formally start the war.

"Why not just kill that bastard emperor?" Bai Yeye thought simply: kill the one responsible and be done with it.

"We need him to expose the hiding places of other space pirates. Killing him would solve that much, but it wouldn't make those pirates turn over a new leaf."

As long as the emperor's money kept them afloat, they wouldn't cause trouble. But once the funds dried up, they’d do anything if they got desperate.

Bai Yeye looked down: "Sorry, I oversimplified."

Bai Ruoshui rubbed his head. Bai Yeye had never been involved in these matters; it made sense he didn’t get it.

"Since we've said so much, wife, I have a question for you too. But you don't have to answer if you don't want to." Bai Yuanzhou said, looking uncomfortable.

"Ask away. If I know, I'll tell you." Bai Ruoshui also had no secrets from his husband.

"Long Tianao isn’t in Rommel right now, is he? You really don't have to answer—it's fine."

When he heard his own name, Bai Yeye got nervous. How did they know? Had he been exposed?

Bai Ruoshui didn't answer directly: "I'm not sure, because I'm not in Rommel either. Why do you ask?"

He felt a little guilty inside. It wasn't that he didn't trust Bai Yuanzhou; it was that he still had reservations about Shen Yu.

Shen Yu was a good man, and he admired him, but Shen Yu was too powerful. Powerful enough that if he wanted to, he could rule the whole galaxy.

Bai Yeye had survived too many assassination attempts since he was a kid. Bai Ruoshui couldn't gamble with his brother's life.

"A few days ago, Shen Yu and I went to a fortune teller. The fortune teller said Long Tianao would one day save the whole Lex planet."

Bai Yeye raised his head proudly. Wow, he’s that amazing?
