The next day, while Bai Yeye was scarfing down food in the cafeteria, Gu Yuankai brought the alphas from yesterday to come over to apologize.

"It was their fault yesterday. You're a big dog with a big heart, so let it slide." Gu Yuankai gave Bai Yeye a flattering smile.

Bai Yeye didn't have any particular problem with him, but he still didn't like those guys. He huffed and turned his head away.

"What are you waiting for? Apologize!" Gu Yuankai kicked each of them.

Only then did they apologize, all grudgingly. After hearing them, Bai Yeye said snidely, "If you don't mean it, don't bother apologizing. Nobody's twisting your arm."

Gu Yuankai waved them off and opened a few bags of cereal for Bai Yeye. "They really know they messed up deep down. It's just that alphas have too much pride, that's all. Don't bother with them."

Bai Yeye gave him a suspicious look. "Why are you being so nice to me all of a sudden?"

Gu Yuankai said, shameless as ever, "I was hoping you'd put in a good word for me with your master about the general."

What if Bai Yeye went back and told the beautiful one what jerks they were? What if the beautiful one got upset?

Bai Yeye flicked his tail and decided to come clean. "My master and Shen Yu aren't actually involved. I was just talking out of my tail before."

He had bad-mouthed Shen Yu earlier because he'd misjudged him. Now that he was sure he was a good person, Bai Yeye didn't want to talk nonsense.

Gu Yuankai stuck to him like glue, buttering him up. "No way! I heard him call the general a two-timer."

"I was just kidding. Does Shen Yu seem like the cheating type to you?"

"No, but I saw all this deep affection in your master's eyes. There must be a story there." Gu Yuankai only saw what he wanted to see.

Bai Yeye: ...

He didn't even know his own eyes had that much affection.

"Here's an idea: do you have a photo of your master? Let me see it." He'd been totally smitten by just a silhouette; he really wanted to catch a glimpse of the beauty's full appearance.

"I don't, but I can draw one for you. I'm pretty good at drawing."

Gu Yuankai's face lit up. "Great!"

"But I'm still hungry."

Gu Yuankai snuck back to the kitchen and swiped two bags of meat buns for him, finally filling him up.

After chowing down, Bai Yeye showed off his mad art skills. He scribbled on the virtual drawing board with his fluffy paws, and before long, he had drawn a creature that looked nothing like human, with a lopsided mouth and beady eyes.

Gu Yuankai felt totally had. "This is supposed to be the beautiful one?"

It didn't even look human, forget beautiful.

"Yeah, it has a nose and eyes. How is it not a person?"

Gu Yuankai glared at Bai Yeye's smug grin, then unclenched his fists.

He would never trust another dog in his life.

Bai Yeye watched him stomp off, wagging his tail smugly. Serves him right for selling me out last time—no way I'd show him!

Over the next two weeks, Shen Yu was swamped, often huddled in secret meetings with Bai Yuanzhou in his office. After each meeting, they both looked like they'd seen a ghost. Bai Yeye was smart enough not to bother them, spending his days eating and drinking at the base, teasing this one and that one, going from a good boy to the base bully.

Finally, after one such meeting, Bai Yuanzhou came over to talk to Bai Yeye.

"Do you know what day it is tomorrow?"

Bai Yeye lifted his head proudly. "Tomorrow's Brother Ruoshui's birthday! I've already got a present ready!"

Bai Yuanzhou patted his head. "Very smart. Ruoshui wants you to return to the prince's mansion tonight and attend the birthday banquet tomorrow."

Bai Yeye happily agreed. "Okay, okay!"

He never expected Shen Yu to come along to the prince's mansion.

After arriving, Shen Yu and Bai Yuanzhou went to the study for another meeting, while Bai Ruoshui took care of Bai Yeye alone.

"Did you have fun this half month?" Bai Ruoshui gave him a warm bath and worked up a lather on his fluffy fur.

Bai Yeye obediently sat in the bathtub, a clump of foam he'd piled on his own head perched on top. "I had fun; everyone was so nice to me."

Except for the small conflict that happened when he first arrived, everything had been harmonious since. Though everyone jokingly said he ate a lot, they still had the kitchen prepare extra food for him.

Bai Ruoshui smiled. "I'm glad you had fun."

Bai Yeye played with little toys in the water and casually remarked, "There's one strange thing—why does Brother Yuanzhou always look so serious after every meeting with Shen Yu? Did something happen?"

At this, Bai Ruoshui's smile stiffened slightly.

"What's wrong?" Bai Yeye could tell from his expression that something was indeed going on.

Bai Ruoshui sighed softly. "Yuanzhou doesn't want me to worry, so he hasn't told me much. But I infer that a battle might break out soon."

As for why, he wasn't sure either.

Bai Yeye tensed up. "Is brother-in-law trying to seize the throne?"

Bai Ruoshui shook his head. "He would never start a war for the throne."

Starting a war meant casualties and suffering for the common people. Bai Ruoshui believed his husband wouldn't do something like that for a throne.

Bai Yeye looked at him worriedly. "Then brother, can you go home first? Come back once things are resolved."

"I have to stay with Yuanzhou; I can't leave. But you should go home first. Once this is over, you can come back and play as long as you want."

Bai Yeye was Bai Ruoshui's only worry. As long as Bai Yeye was safe, Bai Ruoshui had no concerns.

Bai Yeye nuzzled his face. "I'm not leaving. I want to stay and protect you."

Bai Ruoshui was a bit helpless. "You don't need to protect me, brother."

"Then either we both go back, or neither of us goes back." Bai Yeye was firm.

Bai Ruoshui knew it would come to this, so he could only sigh. "We'll talk about it later."

Bai Yeye said nothing more, but a hint of worry lingered in his heart.

That night, Bai Yeye accompanied Bai Ruoshui to rest, while Bai Yuanzhou and Shen Yu remained in the study.

For once, Bai Yeye woke up early. He put on a little red bib and boots, then bounced over to Bai Ruoshui to give him his gift.

"I've been drawing for so long!" Bai Yeye puffed out his chest, expecting praise.

He gave Bai Ruoshui a small sketchbook, filled with drawings of all the things they had done together from childhood to adulthood. Bai Yeye's painting skills were truly impressive; every picture captured the scene exactly as it had been.

As Bai Ruoshui looked through it, his eyes reddened, and he bent down to hug Bai Yeye.

"Brother really likes your gift."

Bai Yeye rubbed his fluffy head against him. "Don't cry, don't cry. Be happy today!"

"I'm not crying, just moved." No gift, no matter how precious, could compare to everything they had shared.

Bai Ruoshui put the gift into the safe, Bai Yuanzhou walked in and hugged him. "Darling, happy birthday."

He valued everything about Bai Ruoshui, and the birthday celebrations grew more lavish each year. This year, he spent several hundred million to give Bai Ruoshui a beautiful sky garden.

Bai Yeye really appreciated that about him; his gentle Brother Ruoshui deserved to be pampered and cherished.

Bai Ruoshui kissed him on the cheek. "You've worked hard."

Bai Yuanzhou was busy with official matters while also taking care of his birthday preparations; it was really hard work.

"For you, it's no trouble. Give me a few more kisses." Bai Yuanzhou was afraid that later, when he had to greet guests, he wouldn't have time to be intimate with Bai Ruoshui.

"Don't be like that, the kid's here." Bai Ruoshui was too embarrassed to be affectionate in front of his younger brother.

"It's fine, what does he know?"

Bai Yeye flaunted his "vast knowledge": "I know, I know! If I weren't here, you'd be doing naughty things!"
