Chapter 65: Nuzzling Yeye

Bai Yeye followed Shen Yu's gaze downward and felt a dizzying shock when he saw the puppy necklace.

I forgot to take it off earlier!

Facing Shen Yu's probing look, Bai Yeye quickly pretended to be relaxed and asked, "I saw Yeye wearing it the other day and it looked good, so I bought the same style from him. Does it look good?"

Shen Yu was skeptical. This design wasn't rare; many shops sold it. But was it really that simple?

General Shen's sixth sense told him that something wasn't right.

"What are you doing here?" Bai Yeye changed the subject. Weren't you supposed to be discussing business? How did you end up here?

Shen Yu countered, "What are you doing here? Trying to assassinate the emperor alone again?"

Bai Yeye curled his lip at the mention of that disgusting emperor. "What's wrong with going alone? Ten dead emperors are no match for me."

"But do you know there are thousands of troops in the palace?"

"So what? I'll just kill him quietly and then slip away."

"His bedroom has at least twenty hidden traps and mechanisms. Once he activates them, you might not even make it out of the bedroom."

The emperor valued his life highly. The first thing he did after ascending the throne was to fill his bedroom with traps in case of assassins. If Bai Yeye knew exactly where the traps were like Shen Yu did, he might manage. Otherwise, he could be shot dead by a hidden arrow after just two steps.

Bai Yeye flipped off the bedroom. That damn emperor's such a coward and still does so much evil.

It was a pretty common gesture, but Shen Yu still made the connection to Bai Yeye.

Now wasn't the time for this. Shen Yu shook his head and commanded, "You can't kill him. Go back."

Bai Yeye wanted to tag along and see if he could help. "Then where are you going?"

"That's my business."

Bai Yeye's human form wasn't really 'one of us' yet, so Shen Yu naturally wouldn't tell him his plans.

"How dare you talk to your boyfriend like that!" Bai Yeye put his hands on his hips, ready to chew him out, but swallowed his words.

"Just you wait!"

The fact that he said that only made Shen Yu more convinced.

"Who's there!"

Bai Yeye's voice caught the guards' attention. Shen Yu covered his mouth and whisked him away from the spot.

Bai Yeye, used to relying on him, instinctively leaned into his embrace, feeling the warmth of his boyfriend. But as soon as they reached a safe place, Shen Yu pushed him away without a second thought.

With his strength, Bai Yeye stumbled two steps and landed on his ass. He let out a sharp hiss of pain and demanded, "Why did you push me!"

Shen Yu apologized expressionlessly, "Sorry, I'm a family man now. Please keep your distance."

He only took him away for Yeye's sake; Shen Yu didn't want to touch him otherwise. That's what you call an alpha with self-respect!

Bai Yeye rubbed his sore butt, thinking, "If this gets wrecked, you'll be the one paying for it later!"

"I'm leaving now. Be careful on your way back." Shen Yu turned to go.

Bai Yeye followed after him, "Hey, if you need any help with anything, just tell me. I'll help. But don't get me wrong—I'm not doing it for you. I'm doing it for Brother Ruoshui and the invincible skinny Yeye of the universe."

Shen Yu didn't stand on ceremony either. "Thanks, but there's no need for now. If there ever is, I'll have the Princess Consort reach out to you."

The omega in front of him was just as capable as any alpha in the base. If he was willing to help, it'd be a huge help.

"Why not let Yeye contact me?"

"I don't want Yeye involved in dangerous things."

"..." Bai Yeye didn't know whether to be happy or unhappy. Was his Samoyed form too weak? Why didn't anyone trust him to be part of these things?

Bai Yeye didn't realize it was everyone's instinct. If it were him, he wouldn't want Shen Yu to be in this position either. But there was no choice—someone had to step up.

After Shen Yu left, Bai Yeye took a shortcut back to the base. When Shen Yu knocked on the door, he steadied his breathing and lay in bed pretending to sleep.

The door opened softly. Shen Yu held his breath as he walked in, afraid to disturb Yeye in his sweet dreams.

Seeing Bai Yeye lying on his side holding a small plush toy, a hint of tenderness flickered in Shen Yu's eyes.

Bai Yeye's marshmallow-like ears twitched. He opened his eyes sleepily. "Done with work?"

Shen Yu stepped forward to tuck him in. "Mm, did I wake you?"

He hadn't meant to disturb Bai Yeye, but once back at base he just had to take another look at him. He couldn't help walking to his door.

Bai Yeye snuggled into him. "Nope. Hug."

Shen Yu buried his face in Bai Yeye's fluffy body. The soft feeling finally relaxed his nerves, which had been wound tight all day.

As long as he was with Bai Yeye, even simple physical contact could satisfy him.

Hearing him sigh long, Bai Yeye looked up at him worried. "A lot on your mind?"

"No."

"Don't bullshit me. I'm not stupid."

"I really don't."

"You're lying. Then I don't want your hugs." Bai Yeye was a little angry.

Shen Yu held him tighter and smiled helplessly. "If I have to say, it's that not being able to find the source is what's bugging me."

They had prepared thoroughly, and if war broke out, they were sure to win. We can cure the Gu poison, but if someone dies while cursed, they won't come back.

What they're afraid of is hurting innocent people.

"I'll stop bothering you. Get some sleep."

"Let's lie down together." Bai Yeye wouldn't let him leave.

Shen Yu couldn't bear to leave either. He carried Bai Yeye back to his own room, changed his clothes, and then lay down with him.

With Shen Yu by his side, Bai Yeye soon drifted off to sleep.

Shen Yu wasn't sleepy at all, and kept staring at Bai Yeye in his arms.

That person said that last time he saw Bai Yeye wearing the puppy necklace, but didn't the puppy necklace fall by the roadside? Gu Yuankai picked it up and returned it to Bai Yeye.

But a single necklace doesn't seem like enough evidence.

Perhaps he should look into it more carefully, and he might find something unexpected.
