Chapter 98: I Want to See Him
by 犬夜叉烧包Chapter 98: I Want to See Him
The servants were too grief-stricken to even notice Bai Yeye's arrival.
Shen Yu had to retrieve the surveillance footage himself. Seeing Bai Yeye leave with Wu Shao only made him more restless.
Long Rui burst in at that moment, asking directly, "Where's YeYe?"
"He left with Wu Shao. I'm going after him."
Long Rui stopped him. "You go back to the base. They need you there. I'll find YeYe."
Despite their past conflicts, Long Rui knew what mattered most in a crisis. Every minute Shen Yu stayed away from the base could mean another life lost somewhere on the planet.
Shen Yu clenched his fists. Reason told him he couldn't leave the base for long, but deep down, a voice urged him to go find Bai Yeye.
Long Rui insisted again, "I'll find YeYe. You need to get back."
Shen Yu gritted his teeth. "Fine. Let me know when you find him. I want to see him."
"Mm."
After they parted ways, Long Rui was about to send his men to search for Bai Yeye when the boy appeared before him.
"Big Brother," Bai Yeye called out, tears streaming uncontrollably down his face.
Seeing him like this, Long Rui wanted to cry too, but he couldn't let his emotions affect Bai Yeye further.
He pulled Bai Yeye into his arms and gently patted his head. "For your second brother's peace of mind, stop crying, okay?"
"No body means there's still hope, right?" Bai Yeye clung to that thought.
Long Rui's throat tightened with bitterness. A missing body was the most heartbreaking outcome. Bai Ruoshui had been so close to the explosion, with no protection at all—how could there be any hope?
Long Rui didn't answer, and the hope in Bai Yeye's eyes slowly faded. He leaned weakly against him.
"YeYe, Dad's in a terrible state right now. Come home and keep him company, okay?" Long Rui tried again to persuade him.
Bai Yeye wiped his tears and said firmly, "I won't go home until I've avenged Brother Ruoshui. If you insist on making me, I'll just have to do what I want on my own."
It was the first time Bai Yeye had been so resolute. Long Rui met his gaze for a moment, then let out a long sigh.
"I have only one request: protect yourself. Don't let our family suffer any more grief."
Their family couldn't bear losing another loved one.
Bai Yeye nodded. "I'll take good care of myself."
"What did Wu Shao tell you? What are your plans?" Long Rui needed to know the details. If it was too dangerous, he would have to stay by Bai Yeye's side at all times.
Bai Yeye hesitated briefly, revealing only part of the information. "He told me Wu Xiu is still alive."
Long Rui was furious. "He's still alive?"
No trace of Wu Xiu had been found at the scene, so everyone assumed he was dead.
"Wu Shao is certain he's alive. As for how he survived, even Wu Shao doesn't know."
Maybe Wu Xiu had prepared in advance, or maybe it was due to his dark arts. None of that mattered now. What mattered was that Bai Yeye would end him with his own hands.
---
In a cold, eerie room filled with corpses, Wu Xiu was like a vengeful spirit, drinking fresh blood. The flesh torn apart by the explosion slowly regenerated.
His chilling eyes gleamed with a terrifying light. After draining the corpse beneath him into a dry husk, he slowly got up.
Wu Xiu twisted his neck in an unnatural way, a grotesque smile spreading across his bloodied face.
*Bai Ruoshui, Bai Ruoshui. You thought you could blow me to pieces, but I'm still alive, aren't I? You, on the other hand, were blown apart without even leaving a body.*
"Master, five Monarchs request an audience," a puppet-like figure shuffled before him.
Wu Xiu threw on a cloak and masked his face before going out to meet the five Monarchs.
The usually dignified and arrogant Monarchs were visibly tense in his presence, finding him utterly terrifying.
"What's the matter?" Wu Xiu asked directly.
They exchanged glances before speaking in unison, "We want to end this alliance."
Wu Xiu let out a cold laugh. "Why?"
One of the Monarchs spoke first. "When we first agreed to cooperate, you said we only needed to deal with Shen Yu. But now, the list of enemies keeps growing."
They were already struggling against Shen Yu's 100,000-strong army, and now they had to contend with Roman's 100,000 troops as well.
On top of that, there were over a thousand mermaids.
The number of mermaids might seem small, but they were ferocious by nature, incredibly powerful, and each one could take on a hundred opponents.
If they lost, they could beg for mercy from Shen Yu or Roman's forces, who might spare the soldiers out of humanitarian principles. But mermaids wouldn't—they would kill everyone who stood against them.
Wu Xiu had expected this. He said slowly, "You have over 300,000 troops combined. Aren't there other armies on the planet?"
The Monarchs looked troubled. "Even with a million troops, it would be hard to win against these people."
Even if they did win, they would lose countless soldiers. Their military strength would be weakened, leaving them vulnerable to invasion from other planets. It would be a case of losing the bait along with the catch.
"We've said our piece. Handle the rest yourself." The five Monarchs stood up.
Wu Xiu clapped his hands, and the doors slammed shut, the lights going out instantly.
"Wu Xiu! What are you doing?! I'm warning you, we all brought plenty of men. If we don't come out in half an hour, they'll storm in!" one of the Monarchs threatened, having prepared for this.
Wu Xiu's laughter echoed eerily in the darkness. Before they could react, they lost consciousness.
Wu Xiu pierced their hearts with a sharp blade, introducing the Gu Poison King into one of their bodies.
"I wonder how long this body will last. I need to find a stronger one quickly."
"A mermaid's body would be perfect. Preferably Bai Ningxin's—it could surely endure much longer."
