Chapter 72: Making Up
by 犬夜叉烧包Chapter 72: Reconciliation
Xie Yongyun couldn't escape Long Rui's clutches after all; he was caught and locked up, unable to comfort a heartbroken Bai Yeye.
Bai Ruoshui didn't get a break until evening.
As he stepped out of the pharmacy, the butler met him.
"Prince Consort, Yeye hasn't eaten anything yet."
Bai Ruoshui asked anxiously, "Hasn't eaten all day?"
"Not a single bite all day. I just knocked on his door, and he said he still wanted to sleep. No matter how we tried to coax him, he wouldn't come out." The butler was also worried; this big fluffy pup couldn't afford to lose any weight.
Bai Ruoshui rubbed his forehead and headed toward Bai Yeye's room.
"Yeye, are you awake?" Bai Ruoshui entered without knocking, tiptoeing over to Bai Yeye.
Bai Yeye's voice was stuffy: "Not yet."
Bai Ruoshui's heart ached: "Still crying?"
"I'm not crying. I'm not gonna cry over him." That's just how he sounds when he hasn't slept well.
Bai Ruoshui gently patted his back: "Let's eat something first, okay? After you eat, I'll make him come over so you can give him a piece of your mind."
"No, don't go find him. I don't want to see him at all right now."
"Come on, Yeye. At least eat a little."
Bai Ruoshui coaxed Bai Yeye for a long time before he ate half a bowl of rice. To Bai Ruoshui, that might as well have been nothing.
He had no choice but to go against Bai Yeye's wishes and text Bai Yuanzhou, asking him to bring Shen Yu over when he was done with his meeting.
When Bai Yuanzhou saw the message, he raised an eyebrow: "Did you and Yeye have a fight?"
No wonder Bai Yeye was crashing at his place. He had been puzzled last night about why Shen Yu wasn't looking for his boyfriend—could they have gotten sick of each other already?
Shen Yu stayed quiet.
Bai Yuanzhou couldn't help but brag: "So fragile. Unlike me and Ruo Shui—we never fight. Not once. Ever."
"We didn't fight either!"
"Then what's going on between you two?"
Shen Yu didn't know what was going on either.
Bai Yuanzhou patted him on the shoulder: "You've finally got a partner. Don't be too proud to apologize. Go and say sorry to him."
"I'm not being too proud to apologize."
He was willing to apologize; his biggest problem was he didn't even know what he did wrong. He only meant well for Bai Yeye, so why was Bai Yeye unhappy?
After listening to the whole story, Bai Yuanzhou stroked his chin and analyzed: "Classic case of not knowing how to communicate. He put a lot of work into the base too, and you just say 'we don't need it'—of course he'd be hurt."
"What I meant by 'not needed' wasn't that. I just wanted him to focus on recovering and not stress about the base."
"What good is telling me? Tell him. Not gonna lie, you've got some nerve—after a fight, you spend the whole day chatting with me instead of going to make up with him."
Shen Yu said urgently, "I sent Yong Yun over."
Bai Yuanzhou slapped his forehead: "You're unbelievable. First fight, not even an apology, and you send the kid over. Aren't you afraid he'll think you're not taking responsibility? For something this small, you bring in a third party. What if there's a bigger conflict later? Would you just hide away?"
"That's not what I meant..." For the first time, General Shen felt completely misunderstood.
Bai Yuanzhou cut him off: "First, I know that's not what you meant. Second, it doesn't matter what I know—you need to make Yeye understand."
Shen Yu wasn't dating him, so what good did it do for him to know?
Seeing that Shen Yu was still hesitating, Bai Yuanzhou went for the kill: "Ruo Shui said Yeye hasn't eaten all day. Whether you go coax him or not is up to you."
As soon as Shen Yu heard that, he flew straight to the prince's residence. Bai Ruoshui heard footsteps outside, pulled the blanket over Bai Yeye, and walked out.
"General Shen, Yeye is a good friend of mine. I hope you treat him right. If this relationship keeps making him unhappy, I'll make him end things." Bai Ruoshui rarely used that tone—it was meant for both Shen Yu and Bai Yeye to hear.
With that, he left without giving Shen Yu a chance to reply.
Shen Yu stood at the door for a while before slowly walking in.
Hearing Shen Yu's footsteps, Bai Yeye buried his face in the pillow, telling himself to have some pride—just ignore him.
"Don't suffocate yourself." Shen Yu stepped forward to adjust him.
Bai Yeye shook off his hand vigorously, but in his excitement, he accidentally knocked his injured hand and winced.
"Be careful!" Shen Yu gently held his injured paw. "Want me to have the Prince Consort take a look?"
"I don't need your concern. Get out." Bai Yeye thought he could sound tough, but the moment he spoke, his nose stung and his voice cracked.
Bad man. If he had any guts, he'd never come looking for him again!
Hearing his tone, Shen Yu's heart softened completely: "Yeye, I'm sorry."
Bai Yeye snorted.
"I was worried you'd get hurt that day, so I spoke a bit harshly. I'm sorry. Can you forgive me?"
The proud and dignified alpha bowing his head and begging for mercy in front of him made Bai Yeye's anger dissipate quite a bit.
But this wasn't going to be resolved so easily. Bai Yeye still pouted and ignored him.
"I've never been in a relationship before, so sometimes I don't realize when I've said or done something wrong. But I promise I'll try to avoid that from now on. Whatever you say, I'll agree to it all. Don't stay mad at me, okay? Or punish me—I'll accept any punishment until you're happy and willing to come back to the base."
Bai Yeye said sarcastically, "What would I go back for? The base doesn't need me."
"When I said I didn't need you that day, it wasn't because you couldn't help. It was because I was afraid you'd get hurt."
"Oh. Then I still don't want to go back. The base doesn't need me anyway."
Shen Yu hugged him, pressing his face against his fur and inhaling the scent of the adorable Yeye: "I need you. When you're not by my side, my heart aches."
Bai Yeye felt a bit pathetic for softening at those words.
General Shen pleaded in a low voice: "Yeye, I really can't live without you."
Okay, Bai Yeye admitted he was a little pleased. He had no pride—he loved hearing these sweet words.
"Let me tell you, I'm only going back with you this time because there's work to do. Don't think I'm easy to coax! You're not tricking me back with just a few words!" Bai Yeye jabbed his face with his paw.
Shen Yu finally let out a sigh of relief, and a smile appeared on his face: "Alright, I promise there won't be a next time."
"You'd better not. If there's a next time, you'll lose your soft, fragrant little skinny Yeye!" Bai Yeye continued to threaten him.
Shen Yu picked him up: "Alright, let's go back to the base."
Bai Yeye's stomach growled, and the fierce Bai Yeye instantly deflated.
"Strange, why am I suddenly so hungry?"
Bai Ruoshui, who was listening outside, waved at the steward to hurry up and bring out all the emergency stash from the prince's mansion.
