Chapter 147: Bai Ruoshui × Bai Yuanzhou [Five]
by 犬夜叉烧包Chapter 147: Bai Ruoshui × Bai Yuanzhou "Five"
"I called you here to make things clear about Bai Ruoshui." Shen Yu cut straight to the chase: "Do you like him?"
"No, I don't!" Bai Yuanzhou immediately refuted, his face so flushed with shame he couldn't lift his head.
Shen Yu had been so good to him, and yet he wanted to compete with Shen Yu for an omega—he was a real piece of work!
Shen Yu was a bit speechless. The guy's practically drooling every time he sees him, and he still says no.
"If there's nothing else, I'll get going."
"Why are you so worked up? I just wanted to tell you, I don't like him. If you want to go after him, be my guest."
Bai Yuanzhou looked up: "You don't like him?"
"I don't."
Shen Yu thought that saying this would make Bai Yuanzhou happy, but instead Bai Yuanzhou grabbed his collar and demanded, "He's so wonderful—how can you not like him?!"
Shen Yu thought he must have heard wrong: "Are you out of your mind?"
He wasn't going to deny that Bai Ruoshui was amazing, but being amazing didn't mean Shen Yu had to like him. Besides, it was better that he didn't like him now—otherwise, the brothers might end up duking it out.
"I haven't lost my mind! He came all the way here for you—how can you do him dirty like that!"
Bai Yuanzhou had misunderstood. He thought Bai Ruoshui had joined the war because of Shen Yu.
"Don't listen to that blabbermouth Gu Yuankai's nonsense. He came here just to help eliminate the bug infestation. It has nothing to do with me. And that whole engagement thing was fake too—if he hadn't said that, Long Shen would never have let him come."
Bai Yuanzhou froze for a second. "Then why'd you give him a gift if you don't even like him?"
Shen Yu was about to throw hands: "That wasn't prepared by me—it was prepared by the common folk."
Bai Yuanzhou let go of his collar and muttered, "You don't like him, and he won't like me either."
Bai Ruoshui was nice to him because he was nice to everyone—not because he felt anything special for him.
Shen Yu didn't know when he'd gotten so mopey: "You're already talking like you've lost before you've even set foot on the battlefield. If this were a real battle, I'd be the first to take you out."
"I'm not being a downer—I'm just being realistic. There's nothing about me that's good enough for him."
Honestly, when it came to looks and skill, Bai Yuanzhou was top-tier. He was usually pretty confident, but faced with someone as perfect as Bai Ruoshui, he instantly felt inadequate.
Shen Yu pinched the bridge of his nose in exasperation: "Did Bai Ruoshui tell you that himself?"
"Of course not—he'd never say something like that!" Bai Ruoshui had even tried to reassure him.
"Well, there you go. You know he's not the type to care about that stuff, so why are you so hung up on it?"
"…You wouldn't get it. No point in explaining."
Shen Yu rolled his eyes. I don't get it, but you're the expert~~ You haven't even started dating yet and you're already acting all deep and mysterious.
"Anyway, I've said my piece. The rest is up to you."
Shen Yu couldn't be bothered to argue with him anymore. Let Bai Yuanzhou flounder around in the deep end of love on his own.
They returned to the planet Lex, where several regions were severely affected by the bug infestation.
Shen Yu assigned people to each region to handle things. It just so happened that Gu Yuankai's heat had hit—and this time it hit him hard. Even after taking his meds, he was still pretty weak, and Shen Yu didn't feel right sending him out like that.
"How about I take the lead instead?" Bai Ruoshui offered proactively.
Shen Yu glanced at Bai Yuanzhou. He didn't care either way—he was just worried someone might start crying about it again.
Bai Yuanzhou sat up straight, about to refuse, when Bai Ruoshui spoke up gently: "I learned how to command troops from my father back in Roman. Trust me, alright?"
Bai Yuanzhou clenched his fist and muttered, "It's pretty dangerous."
Last time, at least he'd been by his side. This time, he wouldn't be there with Bai Ruoshui, and he couldn't relax.
Bai Ruoshui smiled. "It's fine. I'll keep myself safe, and Yuanzhou should keep himself safe too."
Shen Yu watched Bai Yuanzhou's anxious face and nearly rolled his eyes. Everyone knew how fierce the mermaid clan was in battle. No matter how gentle Bai Ruoshui was, he was still a mermaid—and Bai Yuanzhou was worried about him?
Bai Yuanzhou still didn't want to agree, but he couldn't stand to refuse Bai Ruoshui either. He could only shoot Shen Yu a pleading look, hoping he'd say no.
"Then it's settled. Go pack—we leave in half an hour. Try to wrap things up within three days and meet back at the imperial capital!" Shen Yu made the final call.
Bai Yuanzhou gritted his teeth. Once all this was over, he was going to have it out with Shen Yu!
"Ruoshui, would you reconsider? I think this whole thing..."
Bai Ruoshui gently cut him off: "No need to reconsider. I'm confident. Here's the medicine I made for you—keep yourself safe."
Bai Yuanzhou took the little medicine pouch from Bai Ruoshui with both hands. Knowing he couldn't talk him out of it, all he could do was keep urging him: "Then be careful. I'll wrap things up as fast as I can and come find you."
"Alright, I'll wait for you." Bai Ruoshui looked at him with a smile.
With his heart set on his beloved, Bai Yuanzhou fought extra hard this time—he cleared his region's bug problem in just a day and a half.
He rushed straight to Bai Ruoshui's region without stopping. The moment he landed, he heard the ground caving in up ahead, along with soldiers shouting in alarm: "Prince Ruoshui!"
Bai Yuanzhou rushed over, grabbed the nearest person, and demanded: "What's going on?!"
"A soldier got dragged into the collapsed area by a poisonous bug. General Ruoshui went in alone to pull them out and wouldn't let us follow. Now the whole area's caved in—we, we..."
They had no clue what to do. Who knew if it would keep caving in?
Bai Yuanzhou let him go and took a deep breath: "Go find some surveying equipment. Only go down to rescue once you've confirmed it's safe and won't collapse any more."
With that, he charged into the collapsed area himself, shoving aside slabs of stone one by one, searching for any sign of Bai Ruoshui.
"Your Highness! Your Highness! Please come back up, Your Highness!"
"Stop wasting time—go get the tools! Ruoshui, Ruoshui, don't be scared. I'm coming to get you." Bai Yuanzhou's hands were shaking. If anything really happened to Bai Ruoshui, he'd probably lose his mind.
Bai Yuanzhou's hands were scraped raw by the rubble, blood seeping out nonstop. He didn't seem to feel a thing, relentlessly shoving aside the broken debris in front of him.
Suddenly, a strange noise came from about fifty meters away.
The soldiers shouted, "Your Highness! That looks like Prince Ruoshui!"
Bai Yuanzhou looked up, overjoyed, and saw Bai Ruoshui shove off the stone slab on top of him, then leap out of the pit with a soldier in each hand.
The soldiers nearby: Huh? He's hauling people around like they're puppies?
"Yuanzhou?" Bai Ruoshui seemed mostly fine, just a little dusty.
Bai Yuanzhou ran over and hugged him tight. "You're okay, you're okay."
The alpha's scorching presence wrapped around Bai Ruoshui, making his pale skin flush pink.
