Chapter 69: A Small Disagreement
by 犬夜叉烧包Chapter 69: Minor Squabble
Shen Yu stormed all the way to the General's mansion, and the guards at the gate didn't dare stop him, afraid of getting the crap beaten out of them.
He kicked open the door, and Bai Yeye was so startled that his whole dog body shook with fright. No way, he got here that fast?! He hadn't even left yet!
Shen Yu smelled a medicinal odor in the room, and his sharp, cold eyes suddenly filled with worry: "Ye Ye, are you injured?"
Bai Yeye wanted to hide his injured front paw, but he couldn't move at all.
"What happened? Who did this to you!" Shen Yu didn't even dare touch his injury, the rage in his voice could've torched the whole prince's mansion.
"It's just a minor injury. Don't worry too much." Bai Yeye tried to turn his paw to show him it was fine, but the pain nearly made him yelp out loud.
"Don't move!" Shen Yu snapped, his voice icy.
Bai Yeye was startled by him and looked at him pitifully: "You're so harsh."
Normally, General Shen should apologize at this point and express his concern. But General Shen's thick skull couldn't get that far. He stared sternly at Bai Yeye: "Why didn't you tell me you were injured?"
"I didn't want you to worry."
"I'm your boyfriend. Isn't it normal for me to worry? Bai Ruoshui gets to know, so why can't I?"
"..." Bai Yeye couldn't win an argument with him, so he turned away in anger, refusing to acknowledge him.
Jerk. Instead of holding him and soothing him at a time like this, he's arguing over dumb stuff! He was done talking to him.
"General Shen, you're here." Bai Ruoshui rushed back to the prince's residence after receiving the news, but he was still a step behind Shen Yu.
Seeing they seemed to be at odds, Bai Ruoshui tried to mediate: "Ye Ye came here so you wouldn't worry. Don't get the wrong idea."
Shen Yu shot a look at Bai Yeye's back, barely holding back his anger: "How is he?"
"Mm... broken bone. It'll heal in three days, but better to rest for a couple of weeks." The medicine could help Bai Yeye recover quickly, but Bai Ruoshui felt bad for him and wanted him to take it easy longer.
"Then let him stay here for now." Shen Yu didn't want to take him back to the base either. He hated being away from Bai Yeye, but he hated the idea of him getting hurt even more. With war imminent, it was better for Bai Yeye to stay far away.
Bai Yeye turned back, steaming mad: "What do you mean?"
Was he really going to leave him here alone?
Shen Yu tucked the blanket over him: "Since you want to recuperate here, then stay."
"Are you trying to keep me out of the war?"
"Yeah. There's no need for you to be in it." Shen Yu just wanted Bai Yeye to rest, but his words came out super harsh.
Bai Ruoshui rubbed his forehead, getting a headache, sensing that Bai Yeye was about to get angry.
Sure enough, Bai Yeye threw off the blanket Shen Yu had covered him with, hurt and angry: "Fine, I didn't wanna be part of it anyway! Get out!"
What the hell—he went through all that trouble, and Shen Yu just says he's not needed?
Fine then! He didn't give a damn!
"Ye Ye, I..."
"Shen Yu, there you are. Come with me now, we've found a new situation!" Bai Yuanzhou burst in, looking worried, not even stopping to flirt with Bai Ruoshui, and dragged Shen Yu away from the bed.
"Wait, Ye Ye..."
Bai Yeye pulled away and buried his face in the blanket, refusing to listen.
Bai Ruoshui had to step in: "You two go deal with it. I'll take care of Ye Ye."
"But—"
"It's urgent, Shen Yu, let's go!" Bai Yuanzhou didn't give Shen Yu a chance to say more.
Forced to leave, Shen Yu left. Bai Ruoshui pulled the blanket off Bai Yeye and said gently, "Don't be mad, good boy Ye Ye."
Bai Yeye covered his eyes with his uninjured paw, not letting Bai Ruoshui see him cry: "I never wanna be best buds with him again! I'll be your best bud from now on, big bro!"
Bai Ruoshui had to laugh. What a kid.
He took Bai Yeye's paw down and grabbed a tissue to wipe his tears: "You know that's not what Shen Yu meant. He just doesn't know how to say things right."
Someone like Shen Yu, who was used to being straightforward, was never good with sweet talk.
Bai Yeye knew that, but he was still angry.
Bai Ruoshui gently stroked his head, his voice thick with mixed feelings: "Ye Ye, I'm not trying to say anything else, but this is exactly what I meant—the difference in your personalities will cause a lot of friction. There will be more of these things in the future. You... think it over carefully, while it's still early."
No one was wrong in this situation, but the conflict had still happened. In the future, such small issues would pile up, and when they both grew tired of arguing, it'll only end in a big blowout.
Bai Yeye didn't answer and slowly closed his eyes.
Bai Ruoshui didn't keep pressing it either. He gently patted Bai Yeye's back, coaxing him to sleep.
—
"If that person today really is Wu Xiu, then things don't look good. Shen Yu, Shen Yu, are you listening?" Bai Yuanzhou snapped his fingers in front of Shen Yu. What's up with him? Shen Yu kept zoning out today.
Shen Yu snapped out of it: "I'm listening. Didn't Wu Xiu die thirty years ago?"
"According to rumors, yes, but in reality, who knows?"
Thirty years ago, the old divine healer, on his deathbed, had to choose one of his two disciples to inherit his title. Wu Xiu and Wu Shao fought fiercely over it, even fighting to the death in the end. Wu Shao survived and rightfully became the new divine healer.
Actually, both were equally skilled in medicine, but Wu Shao favored the use of medicine, while Wu Xiu favored poison. They were natural enemies—without outside help, neither could eliminate the other.
"Where is Wu Shao now?"
"He went after Wu Xiu, and still no sign of him. I was thinking—this old man isn't a good person either. What if Wu Shao, like his junior brother, wants to use this to take over the galaxy..." Bai Yuanzhou voiced his speculation.
Indeed, Wu Shao had never shown himself to be a good person in their dealings. His methods were extreme, even twisted. Even he admitted it, so it was natural for Bai Yuanzhou to think that way.
Shen Yu tapped the solid wood table in front of him: "First, we capture Wu Xiu. Once we have him, half the problem is solved."
"And Wu Shao?"
"Treat him normally."
"Cough!" Bai Ruoshui's voice came from the doorway, followed by Wu Shao's cold, sinister tone.
"Aren't you afraid he'll turn against us? I think we should be careful. What if he really is on Wu Xiu's side? Then we'll just be asking for trouble."
"You're right. I think we should be careful too."
They were so caught up in their discussion that they didn't notice Wu Shao had arrived.
Wu Shao's face was expressionless. He said calmly, "I'm not a good guy, and I don't owe you any help. Handle the rest yourselves."
