Chapter 70: Emo Little Ye
by 犬夜叉烧包Chapter 70: Emo Little Ye
"Doc, hold up!" Shen Yu quickly followed to apologize.
Bai Yuanzhou smacked his forehead and hurriedly followed to apologize.
"I spoke without thinking just now. You are magnanimous, please don't hold it against me."
"Doc, Yuanzhou spoke improperly. Shen Yu apologizes on his behalf. Please don't take it to heart. Whatever compensation you want, it's yours."
Wu Shao showed no signs of stopping, not even bothering to answer.
Bai Ruoshui followed him while waving at Shen Yu and the others, signaling them to stop following.
Wu Shao wasn't the type to be easily appeased; the more Shen Yu and the others trailed after him apologizing, the more irritated he became. It was better to leave it to him—at least Wu Shao wouldn't hit him.
"Master, please don't be angry. What happened earlier was our fault. I'm truly sorry."
Only after Shen Yu and Bai Yuanzhou stopped following did Wu Shao halt. "I'm not angry, and they weren't wrong either. I really am not a good person. I'm leaving because I've already taught you everything. You know the solution. Why should I stay here any longer?"
These days he had shared everything he knew without holding back. Whether he stayed or not made no difference.
"Master, without you by my side, I still can't do this on my own. I beg you, please don't go." Bai Ruoshui grasped his wrist, a pleading expression on his elegant face.
"And I don't want to be separated from you. I want to take care of you. Please give me this chance to take care of you."
Bai Ruoshui knew that appealing on behalf of the world was useless, so he appealed on his own behalf.
He was betting he mattered to Wu Shao.
Wu Shao shook off his hand. "I'm not that old yet."
"I know, but I still want to see you often. Master, please don't go. I beg you." Bai Ruoshui's begging could melt anyone's heart.
Wu Shao looked away. "Aren't you afraid that I'm in cahoots with Wu Xiu?"
"I'm not afraid. I trust you'd never hurt the world."
"You really trust me?" Wu Shao let out a scornful laugh. "Don't you know what kind of person I am?"
Bai Ruoshui took his arm, resting his head on his shoulder as he did in childhood, and charmed him with his clear tone: "Master is like a third dad to me, my rock."
"...I really underestimated you."
If Bai Ruoshui had just said he was a good guy, Wu Shao wouldn't have let him off that easily. But calling him his father—that made Wu Shao unable to walk away.
"Why didn't you treat your wound?" Bai Ruoshui finally noticed the injury on Wu Shao's hand. He hadn't looked earlier because he figured Wu Shao would take care of it, but the wound was already dry and scabbed.
"Just a scratch. I'm not dying."
Bai Ruoshui pulled out his last bit of good medicine and dusted it onto Wu Shao's hand. The wound healed right before their eyes.
"You don't need to use such expensive medicine on a little cut." Even Wu Shao thought it was a waste—this bottle took half a year to produce, and Bai Ruoshui was using it like it was free.
"For me, obviously not, but for you, I use the best." Bai Ruoshui looked at him with sparkling eyes.
Wu Shao turned his head away again, thinking this kid's got game. That fool Bai Yuanzhou really scored big.
"Master, let's not go back to the base. Let's return to the Prince's Mansion. Wait till they come here to apologize, then you can go back."
Wu Shao reluctantly let himself be dragged by Bai Ruoshui back into the Prince's Mansion. After entering, he asked, "Where's Little Mutt?"
"YeYe is resting in his room."
Wu Shao stood for a moment, then said, "I'll go see him."
Bai Ruoshui said happily, "Good. Please see if there's any way to make YeYe better by tomorrow."
"...I'm a divine doctor, not a god." Three days was already the limit. This was a fracture, not a scrape.
Bai Ruoshui gave an embarrassed chuckle and brought him into Bai Yeye's room.
"YeYe, are you resting?"
How could Bai Yeye possibly sleep with so much going on in his head?
"No. Old man, you're back? Are you hurt?" Bai Yeye struggled to sit up, sniffing him with his wet nose. After smelling no blood, he visibly relaxed.
Wu Shao glanced at him but said nothing about his concerned gesture.
"YeYe, does your wound still hurt?" Bai Ruoshui sat beside Bai Yeye, gently blowing on the injured area even though he knew it wouldn't help much.
"It doesn't hurt. I don't feel anything at all."
Wu Shao said coldly, "If you want to recover well, move around less."
"I know, alright."
Wu Shao grabbed Bai Yeye's paw, examined it thoroughly, then let go.
Bai Ruoshui asked, "Master, did I handle it correctly?"
It should have been fine, but in front of Wu Shao, he still felt instinctive jitters.
"No problem. It's just that his paw is too big—you'll need quite a bit of bandage, won't you?"
Bai Yeye really wanted to kick him to death with his own paw.
Bai Ruoshui smiled and said, "Don't tease YeYe. Time to eat. The steward should have prepared dinner. Shall we eat a little?"
"No, I won't eat." Bai Yeye and Wu Shao spoke at the same time.
It was normal for Wu Shao to say this—he usually didn't eat these days and only ate when he felt like it.
But for Bai Yeye to say it was weird—no, extremely weird.
"YeYe, why aren't you eating? Big Brother had the steward prepare a very, very big chicken leg for you."
Bai Yeye lay back down. "I'm not hungry. I'm so sleepy now. Big Brother, take the old man to eat. I'm really not hungry."
Bai Yeye would eat even when full—how come he's not hungry now? But right now, he truly had no appetite.
"YeYe, are you hurt somewhere else? Tell Big Brother, okay?" Bai Ruoshui was so worried he was about to tear up.
Bai Yeye didn't want him to worry, so he forced himself to go eat a bit.
This time he really only ate a little—not even half a bowl of rice, and only one of the fragrant fried chicken legs.
"I'm so sleepy, Big Brother. I'm going to sleep."
Bai Ruoshui looked as if he were facing a major crisis. How could YeYe not even finish fifty fried chicken legs?
"Master, is YeYe poisoned? Why is his appetite so small? He was already malnourished and weak. What are we going to do if this continues?"
Wu Shao pinched the bridge of his nose. "Can't you tell he has something on his mind?"
Malnourished? In his opinion, Bai Yeye was actually overnourished.
"Something on his mind..." Bai Ruoshui murmured, then suddenly remembered—could it be because of Shen Yu?
He wanted to go and persuade Bai Yeye, but Wu Shao stopped him with a single sentence.
"If it's anything else, you can get involved. But when it comes to matters of the heart, it's best to stay out of it and let him figure it out himself." Bai Ruoshui was a doctor, not a relationship counselor. If he got it right, great; but if he messed up, he'd be blamed forever.
Bai Ruoshui could only worry helplessly. What could he do now?
