Chapter 93: Take Care of Yourself
by 犬夜叉烧包Chapter 93: Take Care of Yourself
Three days passed, and Wu Shao still showed no intention of stepping in to help.
Shen Yu decided to wait no longer and gave Wu Xiu one final day. If he didn't confess voluntarily, Shen Yu would burn him to ashes. Wu Xiu simply has no sense of pain; Shen Yu didn't believe he could survive being reduced to ashes.
"If he dies, we'll have no way to find the source anymore. We can't keep catching people like this every day." Bai Yuanzhou didn't quite agree with Shen Yu's plan.
Shen Yu asked, "And if we keep dragging it out like this, will he be willing to tell us where the source is?"
"Well..." Bai Yuanzhou was at a loss for words.
"It's the same dead end either way—might as well take a gamble. Who knows, maybe his accomplices won't be able to hold back and will come to rescue him."
For now, the emperor had been subdued, but it was useless; the infected were still increasing day by day. That proved Wu Xiu wasn't just working with the emperor—there was someone else behind him.
"Everyone's worked hard. Have something to eat." Bai Ruoshui came in carrying a food container. They'd often been too busy to eat three meals a day, so Bai Ruoshui, worried about their health, personally brought them food.
Bai Yuanzhou took the heavy container from him and said with concern, "Don't keep running back and forth. We'll eat on our own when we're hungry."
Bai Ruoshui helped set out the food. "It's fine, it's not far. Sorry, I still couldn't persuade Master."
If he could have talked Wu Shao into helping, everyone would have had an easier time. But this time, Wu Shao truly gave him no chance.
Shen Yu took a sip of the hot soup, feeling a little better. "It's not your fault. You've done your best."
Bai Ruoshui had also been working hard in the pharmacy, getting just as little sleep as the rest of them.
"I'll have someone bring Wu Xiu here from the prince's residence later. Tomorrow, he'll be burned to death in the imperial palace."
They had kept Wu Xiu locked up in the prince's residence all this time, waiting for Wu Shao to waver. But these days, Wu Shao hadn't left his own room at all.
Bai Ruoshui nodded and was about to urge them to eat a bit more when Gu Yuankai rushed in urgently.
"General, they really made a move."
"How many?"
"Five planets, three hundred thousand soldiers."
Shen Yu had guessed earlier that some planetary emperors would seize this opportunity to invade Lex. Even though they only had fifty thousand soldiers left in the base now, Shen Yu wasn't flustered and prepared to lead the troops to face the enemy personally.
Today, he'd show them how his men could take on a hundred each.
"You stay and guard the base. Keep me informed of any issues." Shen Yu instructed Gu Yuankai.
"Hurry back and stay safe." Bai Yuanzhou had to go too and couldn't see Bai Ruoshui off.
Bai Ruoshui's eyes stung slightly, but he knew this wasn't the time for lingering. He didn't hold Bai Yuanzhou back. "Stay safe."
This wasn't the first time he'd seen Bai Yuanzhou off to the battlefield, but for some reason, his heart ached terribly.
Bai Yuanzhou clearly felt the same, standing there stunned as he looked at Bai Ruoshui.
"Ruo Shui..."
Bai Ruoshui stepped forward and took his hand. "I'll be waiting for you at home. You have to take good care of yourself."
"Your Highness, it's time to go." Gu Yuankai didn't want to interrupt them, but this was war—every minute could cause trouble.
"Go on." Bai Ruoshui let go.
Reason forced Bai Yuanzhou to walk away, but instinct made him keep looking back.
He consoled himself that it was okay—maybe he was just nervous because this was a big matter. He would come back safely. He still had to take his Ruo Shui on a trip.
Bai Ruoshui's eyes reddened after he left. Suppressing his emotions, he returned to the prince's residence.
As soon as he got off the spaceship, he found guards lying all over the ground. Anxiously, Bai Ruoshui rushed as fast as he could to the prison entrance.
Sure enough, the guards there were also down, the cell door wide open, and the person inside was gone.
Bai Ruoshui sent a message to Gu Yuankai, telling him to bring people here immediately. Then he hurried to the pharmacy to find Wu Shao, only to see Wu Shao taking Wu Xiu onto a spaceship.
"Master!" Bai Ruoshui called out to him.
Wu Shao turned back, his eyes as cold as those of a stranger. "I'll make sure Wu Xiu can never harm the world again. And I won't show up either. From now on, I'm no longer your master. Don't follow me."
"Master, what are you saying?! Master!"
Wu Shao started the spaceship without another word to Bai Ruoshui.
Wu Xiu was still bound in chains, tossed on the floor like trash. A terrifying smile lingered on his face, his voice chilling and sinister. "Senior Brother, your little disciple seems very upset."
Wu Shao said calmly, "Whether he's upset or not has nothing to do with me."
"Really? But you seem to care about his feelings. Otherwise, why put on this act?"
"That's none of your business."
The calmer Wu Shao was, the more Wu Xiu wanted to provoke him. "You want to kill me and then kill yourself, but you're afraid it will hurt your little disciple, aren't you?"
"Say whatever you want. Once we're at Master's grave, you won't have the chance."
In truth, Wu Shao had been wavering all these days. He wanted to end Wu Xiu with his own hands, but he couldn't bring himself to do it.
Shen Yu's decision pushed him forward. Wu Xiu would die sooner or later. Better to clean house himself than let an outsider do it—and answer to his master's spirit.
What Wu Xiu said next was also right: Once he did this, he wouldn't live on either.
No particular reason—he just had nothing left to live for.
As for Bai Ruoshui... Wu Shao believed he could carry on the art of medicine and that, whether or not he was around, Ruoshui would live happily.
Wu Xiu didn't act like a man about to die. He kept stirring Wu Shao's emotions. "Senior Brother, your little disciple really is suited to be the source. Just make him swallow the Gu Poison King, and the whole world will be ours."
The veins on Wu Shao's hand bulged. "Dream on."
"Dream on? You'll find out soon enough. Senior Brother, it looks like your little disciple has caught up." Wu Shao looked through the transparent glass door and saw another spaceship following behind.
Wu Shao cursed under his breath and accelerated.
Once the spaceship had completely left the planet Lex and entered the interstellar route, Wu Xiu laughed again. "Senior Brother, your little disciple is just as easy to fool as you are."
Wu Shao dismissed it as the ravings of a madman and ignored him.
But then he heard the sound of chains snapping behind him. He turned to look at Wu Xiu and saw his gaunt, skeleton-like form swelling visibly, pale skin bulging with grotesque veins, slowly breaking free of the chains.
Just as Wu Shao reached for his medicine, Wu Xiu moved with lightning speed, wrapping the chains around him.
"Senior Brother, I told you long ago to practice the evil arts with me. Isn't this better than your orthodox techniques?"
