Chapter 94: Take Good Care of Yourself

"Wu Xiu!" Wu Shao’s eyes looked ready to pop out of their sockets in fury. He never expected Wu Xiu to have reached such a level—feeling no pain, able to summon a hundred times his normal strength even in a weakened state.

The demonic art was powerful, but it came at a corresponding cost. There was no way Wu Xiu could have cultivated to this level with just his own body.

That meant he had already begun devouring others' blood essence to compensate for the backlash from the demonic art.

Wu Xiu had him by the throat, smiling. "Senior Brother, when I capture your precious little disciple today, I'll make you a top meritorious official, so you can enjoy this realm with me. Oh, I forgot—you don't care about the realm. So I can give you the rarest spiritual herbs instead. For instance, your little disciple's heart is a great tonic. Without his heart, he'll be more obedient to me."

What he wanted was Bai Ruoshui's extraordinary mental strength and physical power—he had no need for Bai Ruoshui to stay alive.

Blood trickled from Wu Shao's lips. "Wu Xiu! If you dare touch him, I'll make you pay!"

"Then watch closely, Senior Brother, how I touch him." Wu Xiu opened the airlock hatch, as if about to push Wu Shao out.

Bai Ruoshui accelerated, and when the two ships drew level, he opened the hatch and leaped into their ship.

"Let go of my master!" Bai Ruoshui's pupils dilated—he was clearly enraged.

"This has nothing to do with you! Leave! Get out now!" Wu Shao could already see ships closing in from all directions, terrified that if Bai Ruoshui didn't leave now, he wouldn't be able to.

Wu Xiu threw Wu Shao to the floor, stepping on his chest to provoke Bai Ruoshui's anger. "Come on, let me see just how strong the Mer King is in a full rage."

Seeing how Wu Xiu dared to humiliate his master, Bai Ruoshui didn't hold back and engaged him directly.

Even with the demonic art, Wu Xiu could only manage a draw, and was even slightly on the losing end. That gap made Wu Xiu even more satisfied with him—stronger than he'd imagined. Excellent.

"Don't fight him! Go now!" Wu Shao was nearly frantic as he watched the approaching ships.

Wu Xiu took a kick to the chest from Bai Ruoshui, staggering back three steps before spreading a sinister grin.

"The Mer people's reputation for matching a thousand foes is well-deserved. But today, there are ten thousand here. I wonder if you and your good master can survive a hail of gunfire. Surrender now, and I'll spare your master's life."

"I'll take your life first!" The veins in Bai Ruoshui's eyes stood out.

"I'll give you five minutes to think it over. If you don't surrender by then, you and your master can both die together." Wu Xiu didn't continue the fight; he jumped out the hatch and landed steady on the ship that had come for him.

Bai Ruoshui stumbled over, helping Wu Shao up. "Master, are you alright?"

Wu Shao glared at him, eyes bloodshot. "Are you out of your mind! Why the hell did you come back! I told you to leave! Why didn't you go!"

Bai Ruoshui said nothing, removing the chains in silence.

Wu Shao closed his eyes, his chest was heaving violently.

After more than ten seconds, he opened his eyes again. "Throw me out. Divert their fire, then get out of here immediately. Once Bai Yuanzhou's men get here, you'll be safe."

Hearing this, Bai Ruoshui wrapped the chains back around him without a word, seemingly acquiescing to his words.

Wu Shao's heart finally settled down. In the past, he had enjoyed making people choose between life and death, disgusted by their selfishness. Now all he wanted was for Bai Ruoshui to be selfish for once—to throw him out and draw the enemy's fire.

Bai Ruoshui finished binding him and carried him to the escape pod.

Every ship had a tiny escape pod, only big enough for one person, meant to provide a way out in emergencies. The pod could fly steadily to the ground once ejected.

Wu Shao seemed to guess his plan, growing agitated again. "You think stuffing me in that escape pod will help? Do you think they won't chase after me?"

"Ruo Shui will buy you enough time, Master." Bai Ruoshui adjusted the chain's knot, ensuring Wu Shao could break free once he landed.

"What do you mean? I don't need to leave! You go!"

Bai Ruoshui wiped the blood from his lips, looking at him with gentle eyes. "Master, you might've always thought I was just feeding you sweet talk this whole time, but every word I've said to you is true. You are my third father, the man I lean on."

"Bai Ruoshui! I don't need you to do these things, do you hear me? I don't!" Those words cut through Wu Shao's heart like knives. Bai Ruoshui saw him as a father, and he, in turn, saw Bai Ruoshui as his only child.

This was the child he had raised with his own hands, and today he was paying the price for his own foolishness.

Bai Ruoshui kowtowed three times. "What happened today isn't your fault, Master. Please don't blame yourself for it."

This was his destiny—he'd taken the disaster that was meant for Bai Yuanzhou. Even if it wasn't this, it would've come some other way.

Bai Ruoshui had no regrets. As long as those he cared about were safe, it was worth it.

"Ruo Shui, Ruo Shui, listen to Master, please. I've got nothing to lose—dying doesn't mean a thing to me. But you have a family, loved ones who adore you. If you die, what will they do?" Wu Shao tried desperately to persuade Bai Ruoshui.

Bai Ruoshui looked at him. "You have loved ones who want you to live, too. I want you to live, Master, to live peacefully and contentedly through this life."

"Bai Ruoshui!" Tears streamed down Wu Shao's face involuntarily.

Bai Ruoshui wiped away his tears. "I ask one more thing of you: if I really can't make it back, please erase Yuanzhou's memories of me."

Wu Shao possessed a rare herb called the Forgetwort, which when ingested could make one forget all worries.

Without Bai Ruoshui, other fine omegas would be good to Bai Yuanzhou. As long as he forgot, Bai Yuanzhou could still live happily for the rest of his life.

Bai Ruoshui had much more to say—he wanted to beg Wu Shao to take care of his family. But he trusted that even without his words, Wu Shao would do so.

Time was running out. Bai Ruoshui stood up, ignoring Wu Shao's hysterical shouts, and returned to the pilot's seat.

He picked up the communicator and sent one last message to Bai Yuanzhou.

    "Take care of yourself."

As for his family, Bai Ruoshui couldn't bring himself to send any of them a message.

The ones he felt most sorry for were the family who loved him, because his selfishness had brought them pain.

A single clear tear slid down his cheek. Bai Ruoshui wiped it away and ejected the escape pod.

Wu Xiu's ship immediately moved to block it, but Bai Ruoshui stood at the hatch, blocking him. "You want me as the Origin, right? Fine, I'll go with you. Just let my master go."

A victorious grin spread across Wu Xiu's face. The next instant, Bai Ruoshui leaped without hesitation from the ship.

"Catch him now!" Bai Ruoshui couldn't fly—if he fell from this altitude, he'd shatter into pieces, no use as the Origin.

As Wu Xiu's men moved to approach, Bai Ruoshui triggered his ship's self-destruct, the massive blast wiping out every ship around.

Bai Ruoshui's body was consumed by the flames. By the time Gu Yuankai's men arrived, the ground was littered with shattered ship fragments and blasted remains—not a single whole body was left.
