Chapter 106: Explosion

Hearing Wu Shao's accusations, Wu Xiu curled his lips: "You actually developed feelings for that Bai Ruoshui. He's only using you. The only one in this world who won't hurt you is me!"
"You're the one who hurt me the most. You destroyed everything I had! For Ruoshui's sake, I will never let you live!" Wu Shao stabbed another knife into him, each strike landing in Wu Xiu's most vulnerable places.
He felt no pain, but he could feel his life draining away.
Wu Xiu was too weak to fight back, lying on the ground staring at Wu Shao.
Facing death, he was oddly calm, as if he had long expected this day to come.
"Why, why aren't you affected by the control?"
Wu Shao looked at him without any emotion: "Any trick you could come up with, you think I couldn't think of it too?"
He'd known Wu Xiu's intentions all along, so he had taken the antidote in advance.
"What about him?" Wu Xiu glared coldly at Bai Yeye. Why didn't the silver needles work on him? Wu Xiu had practiced this technique many times and tested it on many people. They were all supposed to fall under his control!
And Bai Yuanzhou—he was supposed to be dead, so why did he show up again?
"Because my medical skills are superior to yours."
The silver needle control works by manipulating acupoints. During the days he was giving Bai Yeye herbal baths, he'd shifted the positions of his acupoints. It sounded absurd, but that was his skill as a divine physician.
After all, Wu Shao didn't become the new divine physician just because the old one favored him—he earned it on his own merits. What Wu Xiu could do, he could do too—and what Wu Xiu couldn't, he still could.
As for Bai Yuanzhou, his heart was naturally positioned differently from most people's. Before Bai Yeye pierced his heart that day, he'd already taken a fake-death pill, so Wu Xiu couldn't find his pulse.
After hearing his explanation, Wu Xiu gave a weak round of applause: "Impressive. You planned everything from start to finish."
He knew Wu Shao and Bai Yeye showing up beside him had to be part of some scheme, but he never expected to be played this hard.
Bai Yuanzhou had no more patience for his nonsense and stepped forward to finish him off himself.
Wu Xiu spoke again: "Too bad—you're all still going to die here today."
Shen Yu held Bai Yuanzhou back: "What do you mean?"
The moment the words left his mouth, they heard the faint sound of explosions in the distance.
Wu Xiu laughed maniacally: "Don't worry, that's just the appetizer. In half an hour, all of Lex will be reduced to rubble. If you can find the switch, maybe you'll live. Too bad—you'll never find it."
Using the emperor's authority, he'd planted a large amount of explosives here. All for this moment—to take Shen Yu down with him.
Seeing the shock on Shen Yu's face, Wu Xiu was satisfied: "Shen Yu, aren't you supposed to be so amazing? Let's see how you save the people on this planet this time."
Shen Yu's mind raced, and he made a decision in the shortest time possible: "Retreat now! And notify the soldiers at the base to escort the residents onto the ships and get them out of here!"
The merfolk could swim fast, so they could reach the base soldiers in no time.
Bai Yeye suddenly thought of something, summoned his tail, and quickly swam toward the explosion site.
"Yeye! Where are you going?!" Long Rui called out, but Bai Yeye had already swum far away.
"I'm going after him. All of you get out! Save whoever you can—don't stay here to die!" Shen Yu left those words behind and unhesitatingly followed Bai Yeye.
Long Rui was torn, and then Bai Zhu spoke up: "Arui, go!"
It wasn't that he was afraid to die, but this wasn't the time to hesitate.
"But Yeye—"
"Go! Think about your father. Do you want him to lose all his children?" Bai Zhu's tone was firm, though his eyes were a little red.
Long Rui gritted his teeth. "Retreat!"
Not just for himself, but for these merfolk too. If he didn't go, they wouldn't either.
He notified the soldiers at the base, telling them to get on the ships as fast as they could and take off immediately.
Shen Yu's soldiers shocked Long Rui and the merfolk—they didn't panic or fall apart. They calmly and methodically escorted all the residents onto the ships.
With only ten minutes left before the explosion, Gu Yuankai led a small group of his elite guards back toward the palace.
"It's exploding over there! Are you going to go die?!" Bai Zhu shouted.
Gu Yuankai's face was resolute: "If we go now, maybe we can still help. If not, then dying alongside the general is our honor!"
From the day they started following Shen Yu, they'd already accepted they might die.
Bai Zhu didn't know what to say. No wonder Shen Yu's army had kept the galaxy in check for so many years.
Every part of the palace was now rigged with timed bombs—there was no way to know where the next explosion would hit. Even so, Bai Yeye didn't back down. He swam back to the hidden chamber where Wu Xiu had been hiding.
"What are you doing here?!" Seeing Shen Yu swim in after him, Bai Yeye tried to shove him back out.
Shen Yu could fly—it still wasn't too late.
Shen Yu grabbed his hand. "I can't let you take this risk alone."
"Go! Or I'll get mad!" Bai Yeye couldn't be sure he'd find the switch. If he didn't, they'd both die.
Shen Yu looked at him and smiled. "I'm not leaving you."
"You're crazy!" Bai Yeye knew time was running out, so he stopped paying attention to him and started searching every possible spot in the chamber for the switch.
Where is it, where is it...
As the seconds ticked by, Bai Yeye grew more frantic. Especially as the sound of explosions got closer, Bai Yeye couldn't stop trembling, terrified the ground beneath him would blow up any second.
With only one minute left, Bai Yeye's eyes suddenly went wide. He reached for Wu Xiu's bat throne.
It was a hollow bronze bat. Hidden beneath the bat's wing was a tiny switch—impossible to spot unless you looked closely.
Bai Yeye didn't hesitate. He hit the switch.
The explosions seemed to stop, but before he could even feel relieved, Shen Yu wrapped his arms around him.
"Look out!"
The next moment, the entire palace exploded. By the time Gu Yuankai arrived, the once glorious palace was nothing but ruins.
Gu Yuankai fell to his knees, helpless. "General..."
