Chapter 111: How About I Come Over to You?

Wu Shao had originally figured Shen Yu would be bedridden for a month before he could get up again. But Shen Yu's body was something else—he was up and out of bed just seven days after Bai Yeye left, and got right back to running things at the base and across the planet.

Lex's imperial palace had been blown to bits, and parts of the residential districts had caved in from the floodwaters caused by the water diversion, so they needed rebuilding.

Shen Yu ordered the soldiers to first help the residents who desperately needed housing rebuild their homes. The palace could wait.

The emperor was dead, and instead of panicking, the people were thrilled and rallied behind Shen Yu to take the throne.

Shen Yu had zero interest in the crown and suggested Bai Yuanzhou take it instead—after all, it was rightfully his to begin with.

Hearing that, Bai Yuanzhou smiled and waved it off: "Nah, I don't have what it takes to be emperor."

"You do, and I'll back you up."

Sure, Bai Yuanzhou would be emperor in name, but really they'd handle everything together—it was just a title for him.

Bai Yuanzhou still turned it down: "I can't protect that many people."

He couldn't even protect his own omega—how the hell could he protect anyone else?

Shen Yu pursed his lips and changed the subject: "We'll talk about it later. The palace rebuild's gonna take a while anyway. You've been working your ass off lately—leave the rest to me and get some real rest."

"I'm fine. You're the one who needs more rest—you're still hurt. Don't worry about me, I'm genuinely fine." Bai Yuanzhou smiled easily, then added: "Stop looking at me like that. I promised Ruoshui I'd take care of myself and not do anything stupid."

Shen Yu dropped his eyes. "I trust you."

Back when he thought Bai Yuanzhou was dead, his heart had felt like it was being ripped in two. He couldn't even stand to think about how much pain Bai Yuanzhou must've been in when he found out Bai Ruoshui was dead.

No words could ever comfort him. All Shen Yu could do was hope Bai Yuanzhou would actually find a way to move on.

Bai Yuanzhou clapped him on the shoulder: "Alright, enough with that sour face. So, when are you and Yeye gonna tie the knot?"

"He's not ready yet. Maybe a few more years."

"That's great. I never thought I'd actually get to toast at General Shen's wedding. Oh, and by the way—looks like Yuan Kai's got a thing going with Yeye's little brother too. Look at those two." Bai Yuanzhou walked over to the window and pointed down.

With the planet being rebuilt, they were worried the kids might run around and get hurt, so Shen Yu had them come play at the base. With that many kids, crying and fussing was a given, so Bai Xingxing rounded up the Samoyed squad to keep them happy.

Down below, dozens of Samoyeds were happily bounding around, making the kids laugh their heads off.

Gu Yuankai was holding a big pile of puppy biscuits, grinning like an idiot, his eyes locked on the smallest Samoyed of the bunch.

Bai Xingxing was on the smaller side but super fluffy, bouncing around like a happy little cotton ball.

Shen Yu's gaze softened. His Yeye was just that tiny too.

"All of you, hurry it up—I wanna be drinking at your weddings sooner." Bai Yuanzhou repeated, his voice bright and cheerful.

Shen Yu said sure on the surface, but deep down he was seriously worried.

Bai Yuanzhou's words gave Shen Yu a bad feeling—like he was treating the wedding as some kind of checklist item. Once that box was checked, he'd be gone.

And where he'd go after that? Shen Yu didn't even want to think about it.

That night, when Wu Shao came by to check his wounds, Shen Yu brought it up.

Wu Shao was totally calm about it—clearly he'd already figured it out a long time ago.

"He can't let go of this. Wanting to see you two married is just his way of watching over things for Bai Ruoshui. The moment you two actually get married, he'll off himself."

Wu Shao knew exactly what was going through Bai Yuanzhou's head, because he felt the exact same way—he was always one step away from going to find Bai Ruoshui himself.

Bai Yuanzhou held on because he wanted to see Bai Ruoshui's family happy. Wu Shao held on because he had to look after Bai Ruoshui's family in his place.

Shen Yu asked, worried: "What about a therapist?"

"If I can't fix him, what makes you think some other doctor can?"

    Shen Yu went quiet.

Wu Shao pulled out a bottle of liquid and handed it over: "If you really want him to live, get him to drink this. I can't guarantee it'll work a hundred percent, but at least there's a fighting chance."

    "What is it?"

    "Water of Forgetfulness."

It was the same water Bai Ruoshui had entrusted to him—the stuff he was supposed to give Bai Yuanzhou.

Wu Shao had had plenty of chances to do it, but he could never go through with it. So he decided to dump this impossible choice on Shen Yu instead.

Shen Yu clenched the bottle. If he just handed it to Bai Yuanzhou, there was no way he'd drink it. Slipping it into his food without telling him would be way too unfair.

"Your injuries can be handled by the other doctors now, so I'm heading out soon—going to Romanel to look after Ruoshui's father."

Perhaps his presence would enrage Bai Ningxin. Maybe Bai Ningxin would even kill him. But he had to go.

"Very well. Thank you for everything, Divine Doctor."

Wu Shao said nothing. If doing all this could bring back his disciple, he didn't mind the trouble.

Back in Romanel, upon learning that Wu Shao was coming, Bai Yeye first sought Long Shen's opinion.

"Can we let him see Father?"

Wu Shao's medical skills were extraordinary—perhaps he could help with Bai Ningxin's condition. But Bai Yeye was also afraid that seeing him would cause Bai Ningxin to lose control again.

Long Shen was equally troubled, but finally decided: "Let him."

Bai Ningxin's condition was the top priority. Every day earlier he could recover was a day gained.

When Wu Shao arrived in Romanel, Long Shen personally received him and brought him to see Bai Ningxin.

The moment Wu Shao saw that face so strikingly similar to Bai Ruoshui's, his heart ached as if cut by a knife.

Bai Ningxin also looked up at him. They stared at each other for a long time.

Wu Shao thought he would rise and try to take his life, but Bai Ningxin simply lowered his head again, showing no reaction.

Wu Shao walked over and crouched in front of him: "If you hate me, you can kill me."

Perhaps that would help his condition improve—and it would also grant Wu Shao himself some relief.

"You think I don't want to kill you? It's just that Ruoshui wouldn't allow me to."

He hated Wu Shao, but he cared even more about Bai Ruoshui's feelings.

Those words struck Wu Shao's heart like a blade. He clenched his jaw and reached out to check his pulse.

Bai Yeye couldn't bear to watch and quietly slipped out.

Back in his quarters, he contacted Shen Yu, who responded quickly.

"Why are you upset?" Shen Yu was sensitive to his shifts in mood.

Bai Yeye lay sprawled on the soft cushion Bai Ruoshui had bought him, his tail and ears hanging low: "I miss Brother Ruoshui."

He kept telling himself to let it go, but every time he saw someone or something connected to Bai Ruoshui, the sadness would hit him hard.

Shen Yu looked at him, his heart aching: "How about I come over to you?"

"No, don't come running back and forth now, or I'll get mad."

Shen Yu sighed. "So many planets have been requesting to visit Romanel lately. If I'm there, I can help with some of the matters."

With Shen Yu present, they probably wouldn't dare cause trouble.

"Take care of your own affairs first. My brother and I can handle things here. If they dare make a move, I'll make an example of them."
