Chapter 3: The Appearance of the Space

He Zhiran promptly sorted out her thoughts; she had indeed traveled through time, and this infirmary was the so-called golden finger of transmigration.

To swiftly master the operation of the space, He Zhiran softly spoke, "Exit."

Sure enough, her body reappeared in the annex where the dowry was stored.

She grabbed a box, focused her mind, and both she and the box instantly materialized within the space. This confirmed that external objects could enter the space.

Putting down the box, He Zhiran left the space again and attempted to use her mind to transport the remaining dowry boxes into the space.

The experiment proved successful. As long as she visualized an item being stored in the space, it would promptly vanish from its original spot and reappear inside the space.

The infirmary's space wasn't vast. After accommodating all the dowry boxes, half of the available area was already occupied.

Surveying the somewhat cramped space, He Zhiran tried using her mind to stack the boxes against the wall.

This maneuver further demonstrated the convenience of the space. It was quite user-friendly, sparing her the effort of physically moving the items. Everything could be accomplished with her mere thoughts.

Having grasped the utilization of the space, He Zhiran didn't linger in the annex, but returned to the bridal chamber instead.

Despite having the space, she needed to formulate a feasible plan before the imperial edict of exile was issued, so she could carry more supplies.

He Zhiran sat on the wedding bed, deep in thought.

If the historical records were accurate, Mo Jiuye was carried back to the palace in the early morning, barely clinging to life after a brutal beating.

Within less than two hours of Mo Jiuye's return, the Emperor had dispatched soldiers to surround the Duke of Protecting the Nation's residence and issued the imperial decree of house arrest and exile.

Glancing at the clock in the space, it was already 10 p.m.

That meant there were no more than ten hours left before the imperial edict was proclaimed.

He Zhiran intended to make the most of the remaining time.

With a plan in mind, she entered the space, rummaged around, and found a camouflage uniform that she often wore on missions in her temporary wardrobe.

He Zhiran donned her camouflage attire, neatly tied her hair into a simple bun, and equipped herself with grappling hooks and steel wire to scale walls, all while avoiding the maidservants' gazes as she left the courtyard.

To study the layout of Duke Guo's residence, she nimbly climbed a sturdy, large tree.

Surveying her surroundings from the treetop, He Zhiran could roughly deduce that her current courtyard was situated slightly to the west. To reach the more densely populated areas, she would need to head eastward.

    However, she didn't do so.

Based on the environment, those courtyards to the east were likely the dwellings of her sisters-in-law and mother-in-law. Even if there were valuables there, they would be personal belongings.

Given the urgency of the situation, it made more sense for her to search for the storeroom rather than sneakily comb through each courtyard like a thief.

With a plan in mind, He Zhiran ventured westward.

True to its status as Duke Guo's residence, the security was incredibly tight.

Along her way, He Zhiran frequently encountered armed patrolling servants.

Moreover, she noticed that the further west she went, the more guards she encountered.

Relying on her skills from her previous life, she used counter-surveillance tactics to approach a courtyard.

Though it was called a courtyard, it was essentially a larger structure that resembled a house.

From a distance, He Zhiran observed and noticed that there were actually two guards stationed there.

Suspecting nothing amiss, she deduced that this place must hold something significant, very likely the Duke of Guardian's treasury.

To divert the guards' attention, she picked up a small pebble and threw it towards a pond nearby.

The pebble splashed into the pond with a "plunk," sounding especially conspicuous in the quiet of the night.

    "Who's there?"

The guards quickly sensed something awry and rushed towards the pond, weapons in hand.

Not wasting any time, He Zhiran hurried to the front of the house.

Where there were dedicated guards, there would naturally be an iron gatekeeper.

Without dwelling on the matter, He Zhiran swiftly entered the space and retrieved the finest, pointed tweezers. Twisting its tip within the lock, she unlocked it in a few swift turns.

Taking advantage of the guards' absence, she hurriedly opened the door and stepped inside.

The room was pitch black, but by the faint moonlight, she could discern rows of shelves lining the walls.

He Zhiran didn't have time for a meticulous inspection. She simply reached out to touch an object on the nearest shelf. It felt smooth, like some sort of fabric.

It seemed that this was indeed the Duke of Protecting Nation's storage house.

To save time, He Zhiran used her mind to transfer all the items into the space, leaving only the shelves behind.

Just as she finished, the guards who had gone to investigate returned.

"I told you, you were just too nervous. There was no one there. We've just wasted our time."

"I clearly heard something by the pond."

"At this time of year, there are plenty of frogs. They might have jumped into the pond, causing that noise."

"Alright, alright, I was the one who overstepped. Let's focus on our duties and keep quiet."

With the two guards back, He Zhiran now had to contemplate how she could slip away unnoticed.

After a moment of thought, she suddenly recalled the newly purchased mini drone within her space.

Equipped with a plan, she agilely climbed onto the roof beam, gently lifted a tile, and released the drone.

Holding the remote control, she skillfully directed the drone to fly further away. When she judged the distance to be sufficient, she activated its laser light and sonic device.

The guards, who had just found their positions, were instantly drawn by the sound, then spotted a beam of white light shining into a particular courtyard.

    "What's that?"

    "There's an assassin!"

    "Let's hurry and investigate."

As she heard the guards' footsteps fading into the distance, He Zhiran swiftly exited the storage room, making sure to relock the door behind her.

Having reached a safe distance, she climbed onto a towering tree and used the remote control to turn off the drone's laser light and sound waves, confident that the guards would return once they failed to locate their target.

Sure enough, after searching in vain, the guards reluctantly returned to the warehouse entrance as the light faded away.

"Something feels off about tonight. Do you think something might have happened?"

"I agree, it's quite peculiar. Should we report this to Duke?"

"Duke is getting married today. Do you really have the audacity to disturb his wedding night?"

"Point taken. If not now, then we can always report it in the morning. As long as the warehouse remains secure."

Seeing that the guards had completely let their guard down, He Zhiran gracefully leaped down from the tree. She maneuvered the drone back into her hand and stored it within her space.
