Chapter 7: Taking You to a Place of Greater Prosperity

As He Zhiran hesitated on how to deflect the question, Mo Jiuye spoke up once more.

"People all have their secrets. If you're not willing to share, I won't press you. Our Mo family is already in a dire situation. My mother and sisters-in-law are all pitiful souls. I only hope you won't harbor any ill intentions."

Encountering someone as enigmatic as He Zhiran, Mo Jiuye dared not and did not wish to take risks. It was one thing for him alone, but he couldn't gamble with his entire family's lives.

He hoped that his sincere words would touch He Zhiran. If she truly had harmful intentions, he wished she would spare his sisters-in-law out of pity for their circumstances.

Understanding Mo Jiuye's suspicions, He Zhiran empathized with him.

After all, her behavior had been utterly inexplicable. It would be more unsettling if Mo Jiuye didn't suspect her at all.

Looking at Mo Jiuye, since he had already bared his thoughts, He Zhiran felt it was time for her to offer a glimpse into her own intentions.

The journey of exile would be long, and there would surely come a day when she would need to use the supplies she had stored in her space. She couldn't afford to exhaust her mind every time she needed an excuse.

She intended to help Mo Jiuye escape this calamity, but she didn't want to expend all her energy on finding pretexts.

Moreover, with Mo Jiuye's astuteness, it wouldn't be easy to pull the wool over his eyes.

After some deliberation, He Zhiran ventured cautiously,

"Everyone has their secrets, and I have mine; I'm sure you do as well. As I've already mentioned, I bear no ill will towards the Mo family. Therefore, I hope you can respect me by not prying into my secrets.

"I'll be honest with you: the theft at Duke's Manor does have something to do with me. On one hand, I didn't want those items to fall into the hands of my enemies. On the other hand, having some supplies at hand would make our journey of exile less arduous."

He Zhiran had said enough. If Mo Jiuye persisted in questioning her, she would have no choice but to leave.

He Zhiran was confident that with her abilities, she could thrive wherever she went. There was no need for her to offer kindness here only to be met with suspicion.

As for the fate of the Mo family, she was powerless to change it...

After a long while, Mo Jiuye spoke in a grave tone, "I promise I won't delve into your secrets anymore."

His intuition told him that this woman wasn't lying.

Moreover, everything she did was for the benefit of Duke's Manor, with no intention of kicking someone when they were down.

Even though he was extremely curious about how she managed to move so many supplies, Mo Jiuye held back from asking any further.

For now, they had reached an understanding, and the newlyweds' chamber fell into a deep silence.

After some time, Mo Jiuye cautiously inquired, "Since you have the ability to quietly empty a storage room, if I were to take you to a place even more affluent, would you be able to empty it as well?"

At the mention of a richer location, He Zhiran's eyes lit up.

Although her space was already filled with various items, most of them were useless accumulations.

Who knew what kind of unforeseen events might occur after their exile? Having more money at hand was of utmost importance.

She also trusted Mo Jiuye's integrity; since he had promised not to delve into her secrets, he would certainly keep his word and not inquire further.

As long as he didn't ask, she could use the space, even if it was in a deafening silence-like manner.

At least, she wouldn't have to hide it too much.

"Where do you plan on taking me?"

From the tone of her voice, Mo Jiuye knew that the woman had agreed.

"I'm planning to rob the treasury. As long as you can carry the items away, I'll handle getting us inside."

    "The treasury?"

He Zhiran was somewhat stunned. She never would have imagined that Mo Jiuye's ambitions were greater than hers, and he actually entertained the notion of emptying the royal treasury.

However, her space was too small; it likely couldn't accommodate such a vast amount of wealth.

Seeing He Zhiran hesitate, Mo Jiuye asked, "Is there a problem? Are you afraid?"

"What could I possibly be afraid of? I'm just wondering how to store all those treasures in the national treasury."

"Store?" Mo Jiuye couldn't help but inquire.

He Zhiran quickly caught on, "You promised not to ask."

"I apologize. I overstepped my bounds," Mo Jiuye admitted frankly, promptly apologizing to He Zhiran.

He Zhiran entered her mind into the space and checked the time; it was already two in the morning.

The deadline for issuing the imperial edict to seize their assets and exile them was drawing closer.

"Wait here for a moment," she said before turning around and rushing to the annex.

Entering the space with her consciousness, He Zhiran reluctantly retrieved some insignificant items, piling them up all over the annex floor.

Though it pained her to part with them, the thought of exchanging these possessions for the treasures in the national treasury brought her some solace.

Retreating to the nuptial chamber, she gazed at Mo Jiuye, still seated on the wedding bed. "Can you walk?"

Mo Jiuye sprang up and hastily put on his shoes. His fleeting frown betrayed his discomfort.

"He Zhiran," she offered solicitously, "I have some knowledge of medicine. Let me examine you first."

Mo Jiuye declined, "It's nothing serious. We must hurry."

With that, he swiftly opened a wardrobe and extracted two sets of black attire suitable for stealthy movement.

He tossed one to He Zhiran, indicating she should change, then donned the other himself.

The clothes were Mo Jiuye's, slightly large for He Zhiran but not hindering her mobility.

Seizing a flexible sword hanging on the wall, he led He Zhiran to leap out the window.

No sooner had her feet touched the ground than she was lifted off again.

The renowned hero of later generations truly lived up to his fame, his lightness of foot extraordinary.

In just a few leaps, he had leaped out of Duke's residence.

He Zhiran acknowledged that in her previous life, she was quite skilled, but her training had only encompassed close combat techniques. Compared to Mo Jiuye's genuine martial arts prowess, she was likely far behind.

While He Zhiran was admiring Mo Jiuye's skills, he had already led her to a dilapidated courtyard.

With disbelief in her eyes, she whispered, "You said the national treasury is here?"

Mo Jiuye didn't respond directly but guided her towards a room in a corner.

He deftly walked to a crumbling hearth that seemed on the verge of collapse, moved aside a few bricks, and revealed a deep, dark hole before them.

Mo Jiuye explained softly, "This is a secret tunnel leading to the national treasury."

He Zhiran genuinely wanted to inquire how he knew about this place, but remembering her request for him not to pry into her secrets, she decided it would be best if she followed suit.

Thus, the question that was almost on the tip of her tongue was swiftly swallowed back.

She followed closely behind Mo Jiuye as they entered the tunnel's entrance.

Mo Jiuye seemed quite familiar with the place, despite the pitch-black surroundings that allowed him to see nothing. He navigated almost effortlessly, without the need to grope around.
