Chapter 23: One Final Step to Detoxification

As He Zhiran wiped away the toxic blood, she gradually pushed it out from the wound. Once most of the venomous blood had been expelled, she cleaned the injury thoroughly.

Only then did He Zhiran turn her attention to Li Rouer.

"Apply the chewed medicine onto the wound."

Li Rouer stood there in a daze, seemingly not having heard He Zhiran's instruction.

This time, Zhang Qing's anger flared up again.

"What are you still standing there for? I told you to apply the medicine!"

Li Rouer's thoughts were jolted back by the sharp rebuke. She glanced at He Zhiran and then at Peng Wang's wound.

    "Sir... Sir, I dare not."

Zhang Qing was anxious; if not for how repulsive the substance in Li Rouer's hand looked, he would have done it himself.

With no other choice, she had to continue urging them.

"Don't forget your status. Do as you're told."

The woman who had just rushed to protect Li Rouer stepped forward, trembling.

"Sir, my lady is timid. Let me do it!"

As she spoke, Zhu took the chewed herbs from Li Rouer's hand and gently applied them to Peng Wang's wound bit by bit.

    "My lady."

Li Rouer had intended for her fear to prompt the officer to ask He Zhiran to do it instead.

To her surprise, her aunt had taken the initiative, leaving Li Rouer frustrated that she hadn't been able to make He Zhiran look bad.

However, with so many officers present, Li Rouer dared not act out. She could only suppress her anger, waiting for the right moment to continue targeting He Zhiran.

At this moment, Zhou Laoba was already anxious about Peng Wang's condition. When he turned his head, he met Li Rouer's cold gaze.

Such a demeanor could only elicit disgust upon sight.

"Both of you, stop loitering here and return to your places," the man barked.

Zhu was timid, and the stern expressions on the officers' faces immediately sent her knees trembling with fear. She didn't dare waste a moment and promptly dragged Li Rouer back.

He Zhiran's assistance in tending Peng Wang's wound was merely superficial. The key to removing the venom from his body lay in the antivenom within her personal space. However, with the officers pacing about, she had yet to find an opportune moment to retrieve it.

As He Zhiran pondered a solution, Zhang Qing grew impatient once more.

"Do you even know how to neutralize snake venom? We've applied the medicine for so long, yet there's no sign of improvement in the leader," he grumbled.

Upon hearing Zhang Qing's words, the other officers also began to doubt He Zhiran's abilities.

Could it be that Li Rouer was telling the truth, and He Zhiran truly knows nothing about medicine?

At this thought, everyone grew restless.

"He Zhiran, how do you explain that the Chief hasn't shown any response after taking the medicine?"

"If you dare to deceive us here, prepare for a whipping."

He Zhiran was also anxious; Peng Wang's breathing had become even more labored. Any further delay, and not even a divine being could save his life.

After much contemplation, He Zhiran resorted to the simplest solution.

"The detoxification is just one final step away, but..."

"What is it?" Zhang Qing eagerly interrupted before He Zhiran could finish.

"I need to perform my master's unique medical technique."

"Then what are you waiting for? Hurry up and treat him." Zhang Qing urged impatiently.

"Sir, I've already told you, it's an exclusive medical technique." He Zhiran inwardly cursed Zhang Qing for being a fool, unable to read between the lines.

Fortunately, a younger officer was quick-witted, tugging at Zhang Qing's sleeve.

"Young Zhang, what she means is that no one else can be present when she treats our boss."

As Zhang Qing came to his senses, he was also torn.

He glanced at the other officers, momentarily at a loss. They were all hesitant to take their eyes off their unconscious leader, fearing that if the Hes had any ill intentions, they would bear the brunt of the responsibility.

Seeing the group of men's indecisiveness, He Zhiran grew impatient.

"I'll give you one stick of incense to discuss. After that time, there will be nothing more I can do."

With that, she turned to leave.

Just as He Zhiran was about to depart, Zhou Laoba called out to her.

"You return to treat the leader; any consequences will fall upon me."

All the other officers turned their gaze to Zhou Laoba, their expressions easing slightly.

They were well aware of Peng Wang's dire condition. If they didn't let He Zhiran treat him, there would be no hope left but to wait for death.

However, nobody was eager to take the lead in this matter.

Since someone was willing to step forward and make the decision, they all tacitly agreed not to object.

He Zhiran surveyed the surroundings. Apart from a few sturdy trees, there were virtually no obstructions.

Fortunately, it was already getting dark. As long as she remained cautious during her procedure, there was little chance of being discovered.

"Carry him behind the thickest tree over there," she instructed the anxious officers, eager to save Peng Wang.

Without hesitation, they lifted Peng Wang and moved him to the location He Zhiran had indicated.

"Alright, all of you turn around and walk thirty paces away."

Without turning her head, He Zhiran commanded in an authoritative tone.

She listened attentively to the fading footsteps until they ceased altogether. Only then did she begin to survey her surroundings.

Ensuring that no one was watching, she swiftly retrieved the serum and syringe from her secret space.

Looking at the serum in her hand, He Zhiran felt a twinge of pain in her heart.

This was the latest limited-edition high-concentration serum, its production scarce due to the preciousness and difficulty in obtaining the raw materials, resulting in a situation where it was valued but not readily available on the market.

It was by sheer coincidence that He Zhiran had obtained these vials of high-concentration serum, which she had kept stored in the infirmary's refrigerator, unwilling to sell them.

One could only say that Peng Wang was fortunate; had he not encountered her, he would surely have lost his life.

Were it not for the regenerative capabilities of this space, He Zhiran would truly hesitate to allocate it for Peng Wang's use.

Intravenous administration would be more effective, but the current situation doesn't permit He Zhiran to do so. She has no choice but to opt for an intramuscular injection.

Using the cover of a large tree, He Zhiran skillfully mixed the antitoxin with saline in the appropriate ratio. Then, she lifted Peng Wang's sleeve, sanitized the area, inserted the needle, administered the medicine, and removed it - all in one fluid motion.

With the remaining packaging and syringe stowed away in her space, He Zhiran closely observed Peng Wang's breathing with great attention.

Approximately five minutes later, Peng Wang's condition had significantly improved.

His previously ashen face, strained from the difficulty in breathing, gradually regained its color, and his breaths became much smoother.

It is estimated that in another hour or two, the person will regain consciousness.

After He Zhiran administered the serum to Peng Wang, she didn't rush to leave. Instead, she planned to stay and observe for a while longer until his condition was completely stable.

Unperturbed by the situation, Zhang Qing's patience eventually wore thin, prompting her to inquire loudly, "Madame He, what is the actual condition of our leader?"

In her previous life as a doctor, He Zhiran had always disliked two types of patients' relatives.

One was those who questioned her expertise, and the other were those who anxiously urged her.

Zhang Qing embodied both of these traits.

"What's all the commotion about? If you don't trust me, go find another physician."

He Zhiran's disposition was such that she wouldn't tolerate this behavior, not even from government officials.
