    Chapter 18: The Wilderness

Mrs. Grace cursed with some guilt in her heart.

As she cursed, she silently moved closer to Pullman Grace, hoping that if Ji Jing were to attack her, her Alpha husband would shield her.

But to her surprise, Ji Jing did not lash out; instead, he looked aggrieved and hesitant.

Ji Jing said with a sob, "Mom, I haven't been able to get pregnant, but it's not my fault—it's Ed..."

Mrs. Grace was stunned, but then she angrily retorted, "What nonsense are you spouting? Our Ed is an S-level Alpha. How could he be incapable?"

Ji Jing thought to himself, "Incapable" wasn't my word, it was yours.

But he maintained his aggrieved expression and stammered, "Dad, Mom, why don't you... while you're still young, try again to have another Alpha? You can't rely on Ed."

"Sigh, you don't know, Ed doesn't actually like Omegas. He likes... Alphas."

The Graces stared wide-eyed, and Mrs. Grace instinctively rebutted, "Impossible!"

Ji Jing wiped away the non-existent tears from his eyes and said sadly, "How is it impossible? Don't you know? He's been very close with another Alpha in the military recently. Even during his leave, he spends all his time with that Alpha and doesn't come home."

"Sigh... it's not really his fault. Maybe he feels... so he found an Alpha, probably wanting to experience being an Omega for fun!"

Experience... being an Omega... for fun...

Ji Jing's few words struck the Graces like thunder, leaving them stunned.

Ji Jing sighed, "Sigh, I wonder if the Empire's marriage law has any compensation for Omegas who are cheated on by their spouses. I should ask someone about it..."

He walked away as he spoke.

Leaving behind the shocked Graces, who looked like they might faint.

Half an hour later, Ji Jing arrived at the place where he had agreed to meet Luo Ke, who was already waiting.

Luo Ke had changed into casual clothes today—a white T-shirt with a beige denim jacket, olive-colored wide-leg pants, and white sneakers, still wearing his bite inhibitor.

Compared to yesterday, he looked younger and more fashionable, catching Ji Jing's eye once again.

Ji Jing smiled apologetically at Luo Ke, "Sorry, I was delayed by a small matter before leaving."

Luo Ke shook his head lightly, "You're not late; I came early."

After parking his flying car, Ji Jing got into Luo Ke's vehicle.

The flying car started and headed towards Luo Ke's residence.

Sitting in the passenger seat, Ji Jing mused, "So, does this count as having an affair?"

The flying car jolted, nearly losing control.

Luo Ke blushed and muttered after a moment, "...so, when are you going to divorce?"

"Hmm? That eager?" Ji Jing raised an eyebrow, looking at him with a half-smile.

To avoid an accident, Luo Ke switched the flying car to autopilot and closed his mouth.

In the narrow cabin, a faint scent of cedar mixed with sandalwood spread through the air, crisp and heavy, like a winter wilderness.

Ji Jing couldn't help but inhale, curious, "Hmm? Is this your pheromone scent?"

Luo Ke was taken aback, sniffed the air, and immediately blushed, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."

As he was about to press the ventilation button, Ji Jing grabbed his hand.

"It's okay, I don't dislike the smell; it's quite nice." Ji Jing smiled.

    Luo Ke: "..."

Luo Ke's face turned even redder. His self-control had weakened due to his heat period, and Ji Jing's mention of an affair didn't help.

Fortunately, the journey was short, and within ten minutes, the flying car landed on a hillside at the boundary between the inner and outer districts.

Before them stood a three-story villa surrounded by greenery, with no other buildings in sight.

Ji Jing curiously surveyed the surroundings, "I thought you'd live in the center of the inner district."

Luo Ke opened the villa's door for Ji Jing and explained, "My mental strength level is quite high, and sometimes I might affect others, so I applied to live here."

"Few people come here, it's very quiet."

Ji Jing nodded with a smile, "The environment is great, perfect for having an affair."

    Luo Ke: ...

Why does he keep mentioning affairs?

At that moment, two figures, one large and one small, rushed out of the house, heading towards Luo Ke. Seeing the unfamiliar Ji Jing, they both froze.

Ji Jing's eyes lit up. The larger one was a black-and-white border collie, and the smaller one was a black-and-white long-haired cat.

The border collie came over to sniff Ji Jing, then started wagging its tail and licking him, eagerly seeking attention.

The cat, however, was much more cautious, looking back and forth between Luo Ke and Ji Jing, uncertain.

Ji Jing petted the border collie's head with one hand and glanced at Luo Ke with a playful look, seemingly saying, "You sly dog, keeping both a cat and a dog!"

Luo Ke introduced, "This is Dahua."

Then he pointed to the calico cat and said, "That is Xiaohua."

"Dahua and Xiaohua, this is Ji Jing."

    Ji Jing: "Uh..."

    This naming skill is truly...

Seeing Dahua already licking Ji Jing's hand, Xiaohua also cautiously approached but did not let Ji Jing touch it.

With this cat and dog around, Luo Ke felt the atmosphere finally wasn't as awkward anymore.

He brought slippers for Ji Jing and poured him some fruit juice. After Ji Jing played with Dahua for a while and fed Xiaohua a cat stick, he led him to take the elevator down to the basement.

At first, Ji Jing was a bit curious—wasn't going down to the basement just a few steps away? Was there really a need to take the elevator?

But when the transparent elevator started descending, Ji Jing finally realized his naivety—

The basement in front of him had a height of nearly a hundred meters. No wonder an elevator was needed, and no wonder Luo Ke had to build his home halfway up the mountain.

Probably most of the mountain below had been hollowed out?

In the vast space before him, there were over ten mechs of different models lined up.

Each one alone was enough to be awe-inspiring, let alone having over ten gathered in one room.

When Ji Jing stepped out of the elevator, facing these behemoth-like steel beasts, he deeply felt his own insignificance.

Ji Jing looked around with his head tilted upward, somewhat puzzled, "Huh? Where is your black panther?"

Luo Ke blushed and muttered after a moment, “…so, when are you going to divorce?”

Yes, when? I hate when authors keep delaying the matter forever for no reason
