Chapter 25: Fury
byChapter 25: Fury
Luo Ke was a bit excited, not just because Ji Jing had agreed to give him the clothes he had worn, but also because Ji Jing was about to be single again.
He could now pursue Ji Jing openly!
Ji Jing had set the time for nine o'clock, but Luo Ke arrived at the café at eight and sent messages every so often—
"How's it going over there? Is everything smooth?"
"Has Ed Greis given you any trouble? Do you need my help?"
"Ji Jing, I'm waiting for you at the café. When you're almost done, send me a message, and I'll meet you at the entrance of the Civil Affairs Bureau, okay?"
"I'm sorry if I sound impatient. Take your time. If you encounter any difficulties, you can call me anytime."
However, Ji Jing did not reply to any of his messages, and they all remained unread.
When it was half past nine and Ji Jing still hadn't shown up or responded, Luo Ke couldn't sit still anymore.
He tried calling Ji Jing but only heard the cold, mechanical voice of an AI customer service: "The number you have dialed is out of service area. Please try again later."
Luo Ke left the café and rushed to the Civil Affairs Bureau, but neither Ji Jing nor Ed were there.
He asked the staff, who confirmed that neither of them had shown up today.
Luo Ke was panicking. He asked his adjutant to trace Ed's communication number and then called him.
Ed's communication number was reachable, but he didn't answer.
It wasn't until Luo Ke called for the third time that Ed answered irritably, "Who is this?"
"Luo Ke Tang En," Luo Ke said.
On the other end, Ed stiffened momentarily before softening his tone, "General Tang En, what can I do for you?"
Luo Ke asked coldly, "Is Ji Jing with you?"
"No," Ed replied impatiently. "I'm not with him."
Luo Ke's voice grew colder, "Where are you? Didn't you agree to go to the Civil Affairs Bureau this morning to get the divorce certificate?"
Ed became even more annoyed, "General Tang En, this is my private matter. It has nothing to do with you."
Luo Ke's voice was now icy, "Ed Greis, I'll ask you one last time, where are you?"
Ed finally relented and admitted, "I'm at Fifth Hospital. Carol... had an accident."
Luo Ke narrowed his eyes, "So, you didn't come to the Civil Affairs Bureau this morning. You stood him up?"
Ed wanted to say it was none of his business, but he reluctantly admitted, "...Yes."
Luo Ke warned, "If anything happens to Ji Jing, you're dead." Then he hung up.
He got into his hovercar and headed towards the Greis residence, using all available resources to find Ji Jing.
But it was Luo Ke himself who found the crashed hovercar first.
When he saw the severely damaged hovercar with bloodstains and a bloodied backpack inside, Luo Ke's body shook uncontrollably.
His body stiffened for a moment before he regained control.
He picked up the bloodied backpack, opened it, and found the clothes Ji Jing had worn over the past two days, still carrying the faint scent of wild ginger pheromones.
The sweet yet spicy aroma reminded him of Ji Jing—charming and unrestrained.
But at that moment, holding the backpack, Luo Ke dared not imagine what had happened to Ji Jing.
Fortunately, as the Sword of the Empire, Luo Ke had many privileges. He used all his connections to urgently review surveillance footage and check all ports and airports on Imperial Star.
Within half a day, he discovered the cause of Ji Jing's accident.
Someone had tampered with his hovercar, and after the crash, someone had taken him away.
Others might not recognize the face in the surveillance footage, but Luo Ke did—it was the leader of the Wolf King Star Pirates, Gray Wolf.
At that moment, Luo Ke's heart sank.
If someone else had kidnapped Ji Jing, it would be easier to track him down. But if it was Gray Wolf, he might already be halfway out of the Rose Galaxy.
The only consolation was that Gray Wolf must have taken such a risk to kidnap Ji Jing for a reason other than killing him.
Otherwise, Luo Ke would have found a cold corpse instead of a bloodstained hovercar.
But where had they taken Ji Jing? He had lost so much blood; surely he must be severely injured. How was he doing?
During their escape, had they neglected to treat Ji Jing due to the urgency of their journey?
Thinking about this, Luo Ke's heart tightened.
After setting up the tracking efforts, he personally went to Fifth Hospital.
Then he dragged Ed to a blind spot from the security cameras and beat him up.
Ed was completely stunned.
He was already in a bad mood. Last night, he had agreed to Ji Jing's request, but then he learned that Carol had gone to the hospital alone for an abortion.
By the time Ed rushed to the hospital, it was too late.
He hasn't closed his eyes since last night, looking much more haggard now, with stubble all over his chin, while Carol seems determined to cut ties with him.
Ed is so annoyed that he wouldn't even remember the promise he made to Ji Jing today about getting the divorce certificate.
Even after receiving Luo Ke's call, he could only think with schadenfreude: Ji Jing, didn't see that coming, did you? You got stood up by me and waited for nothing, how does it feel?
What did Luo Ke Tang En mean by threatening me afterward?
Could it be that Ji Jing is at his wit's end because I stood him up?
That doesn't make sense.
Or perhaps, he actually doesn't want to divorce me and has changed his mind?
In any case, when he saw the furious Luo Ke, Ed was still in shock, thinking: No way? Something really happened to Ji Jing? Could it be that what he said about loving me is true? Now he can't bear the blow of the divorce and wants to commit suicide?
After being beaten up by Luo Ke, Ed also became enraged, somehow mustering the strength to push away Luo Ke's grip.
"Why do you have the right to hit me? I agreed to Ji Jing's divorce terms, and even if I didn't show up at the Civil Affairs Bureau today, there was a reason."
Luo Ke, however, rushed forward again and beat him up, yelling: "Why didn't you say anything about not going to the Civil Affairs Bureau earlier? If I hadn't called you, you wouldn't even ask Ji Jing. Now that something has happened to him, this is all your fault! Who else should I hit?!"
Ed was almost beaten into a pulp; it took him great effort to break free from the grip again. After spitting out a mouthful of blood, he started laughing hysterically.
"Hahaha, Luo Ke Tang En, you're jealous, aren't you? Jealous that Ji Jing is my legal Omega and that he loves me?"
This made Luo Ke even angrier, and he continued pounding Ed with his fist, breaking several of his bones.
While hitting him, he cursed: "He is not your Omega anymore! You two are already divorced. Even though you haven't gotten the paper divorce certificate, according to the Empire's Marriage Law, you are no longer married!"
"He doesn't love you either! You, an Alpha who cheats on him and commits adultery within marriage, don't deserve his love!"
"You scum, I'm going to kill you!"
