Chapter 93: Need
by 临光Chapter 93: Need
In the evening, while they were working as spies together, Ji Jing asked, "Sister, how did you meet Andrei? What do you think of him?"
Lai Yisha looked a bit puzzled. "Hmm? Why ask suddenly? Did he say anything odd or do anything unusual?"
Ji Jing shook his head. "No, he’s been really nice to me. I'm just curious."
"Oh, I see." Lai Yisha thought for a moment and said, "We’ve known each other for a long time. He’s the son of one of my father's comrades-in-arms. Back then, when his parents died in battle, he was still a minor. My father was worried something might happen to him, so he brought Andrei to live with us, and that's how we met."
"As for what kind of person he is... he’s quite capable and has a good personality, but he can be a bit distant and doesn’t open up easily."
"Distant?"
Ji Jing nearly choked on his saliva, finding it hard to believe. If Andrei had a tail, it would probably be wagging like a propeller in front of Lai Yisha. Yet, she described him as "distant."
Lai Yisha nodded. "Yes, my parents treated him very well, and Vik and I saw him as a little brother. But he didn’t seem to like us that much. As soon as he turned eighteen, he moved out of my house. Even though we’ve stayed in touch over the years, I feel like there’s always been a distance between us."
Ji Jing replied, "Alright..."
It seemed there was more to the story that he didn’t know, but since Lai Yisha didn’t have romantic feelings for Andrei, Ji Jing decided not to push the matter.
The next day, Ji Jing got up quite a bit earlier than usual. When Andrei came to pick him up, he was already ready to go.
In the morning, Ji Jing attended a class on coordination command and another on battlefield command, finding them very beneficial.
In the afternoon, he attended a mecha combat lesson with Andrei, gradually getting used to the bulky training mechs.
Meanwhile, Ji Jing got to know Andrei’s students, exchanging greetings with them. During the break, a few students even asked to add him as a friend, which Ji Jing smilingly accepted.
When Andrei dropped Ji Jing off that afternoon, his mood was even darker than the day before, as if he had gone from eighteen to twenty-eight years of coal mining. He kept giving off a tense vibe the whole drive.
With his strong mental control, Ji Jing remained unaffected by Andrei’s mood. In fact, he felt like laughing but had to hold it in.
When they arrived at the manor, Lai Yisha hadn’t come back yet. Seeing that she wasn’t there, Andrei looked visibly disappointed, like a big dog left behind by its owner.
Ji Jing could barely hold back his laughter and, in front of Andrei, called Lai Yisha. It took a while for her to answer.
"Sister, are you working overtime today?"
Lai Yisha replied, "Yes, there are quite a few patients at the hospital today, so I'll be home late, sweetie. Is there something you need?"
Ji Jing had the speakerphone on and, with a smile on his face, looked at Andre's disappointed expression and said, "It's nothing, sister, you should remember to have dinner even if you're busy, okay!"
Lai Yisha said, "Okay, sweetie, don't forget to have dinner too."
After hanging up the phone, Ji Jing waved at Andre, "Instructor, see you tomorrow."
Andre turned around with a stony face and got into the car without hesitation.
Once the car was far away, Ji Jing finally couldn't hold back anymore, "Ahahahaha..."
The butler, seeing Ji Jing laughing so happily, couldn't help but ask curiously, "Did something fun happen?"
Ji Jing smiled and nodded, "I met someone really interesting."
At eight o'clock in the evening, Ji Jing had already taken a shower and was just about to lie down on the bed when he received a video call from Luo Ke.
As soon as the video connected, Luo Ke's voice came through, "Hubby~"
This single word, filled with a hint of grievance, made Ji Jing feel a chill run down his spine.
"Luo Ke?" Ji Jing looked at the silver-haired dog, reminded of how Andre looked earlier when he didn't get to see Lai Yisha.
Seeing Ji Jing's expression, Luo Ke immediately toned down and said, "Baby, I really miss you."
"I really miss you too," Ji Jing replied instinctively.
However, upon hearing this, Luo Ke didn't quite believe him. The surveillance device he had secretly installed in Ji Jing’s neural implant not only tracked his movements and social interactions but also monitored Ji Jing's body temperature and heart rate.
The data indicated that Ji Jing had been in a good mood all day, and his activities during the past two days in the daytime had all been within the St. Peter Military Academy. Today, several new students had been added to his contacts...
Luo Ke seriously suspected that Ji Jing had been gathering followers at the military academy.
But he couldn't ask or say anything, so he could only ask with frustration, "How have you been these past two days? Are you adjusting to St. Peter?"
"I'm doing well," Ji Jing replied, "I've been auditing classes at St. Peter Military Academy. I've learned some new things and met new people. It’s been very fulfilling."
Luo Ke felt even more frustrated and could only try to make some insincere sweet talk.
Ji Jing responded to some of Locke’s comments, while others were met with silence, clearly still having no plans to consider Locke as a lifelong partner.
Locke didn’t show it on his face, but he was filled with a sense of frustration.
He had heard that other Omegas, when pregnant, would become more attached to their Alphas due to pheromone fluctuations, hoping to be inseparable.
However, in Ji Jing’s case, there was no such change. Only Locke felt an increasing psychological dependence on Ji Jing.
The question was, how could one win over a demon and ensure he remains forever devoted?
No one could provide an answer.
The only methods Locke could think of were chains, a dark room, and confinement.
A thread of rationality pulled him back to reality, and after expressing his longing to Ji Jing once more, he said goodnight to him.
After ending the video call, Ji Jing used his light brain to research topics he hadn’t understood in the day’s classes. After studying for about an hour, he heard Laisha come home downstairs.
He left his room to greet her before going to bed.
As the light shifted and shadows danced, Ji Jing vaguely realized he had transformed into another young self.
As a child, he often got beaten by his parents, who believed in the adage "spare the rod, spoil the child." Once, he got into a fight with a neighbor’s young Alpha, cracking the boy’s head open, and injuring his own arm, which left a clear scar on the inside of his left arm.
During his most rebellious years, he even ran away from home, only to be found and beaten by his father with a belt.
At that time, he thought to himself: What bad luck to have such parents.
But to his surprise, the parents he once found annoying never returned after a mission.
He suddenly found himself an orphan.
Overnight, his rebelliousness vanished, as if he had matured instantly.
But only he knew that after the two people he had seen as obstacles and opposition vanished, he felt no relief or happiness. What remained was endless regret.
He regretted that his last words to them were: "How annoying! Can you stop interfering with me?"
Now that no one was managing him anymore, he secretly wet his pillow with tears in the middle of the night, silently praying in his heart: "Please come back. I will listen to you from now on and never make you angry again."
Unfortunately, reality remained unchanged despite his prayers.
During his parents' funeral, the young boy's small figure appeared particularly lonely. He heard the murmurs of the crowd, and some elderly women expressed deep sympathy for his plight.
"What a pity, losing both parents at such a young age, how will he survive from now on..."
They lamented.
However, the young boy felt a wave of dizziness, regret and hatred gradually burying and consuming him.
Ji Jing suddenly sat up from the nightmare, his face still wet with tears.
He touched his face, realizing he had been crying in the dream as another person.
As he regained consciousness, the details of the dream quickly faded into vague shadows. Sitting in the dark, Ji Jing couldn't help but hold his forehead.
"Damn!"
It seemed he had an issue.
