Chapter 423: Day 28 of Being Thrown Into a Mary Sue

An Yi felt his temples pounding.

The warm atmosphere from just moments ago, that trace of indulgent smile—shattered once again by Lu Lu's random, stupidly blunt question!

Why on earth did he ever think that being with this guy, who was missing a few screws in his head and constantly short-circuiting into foolishness, would be fun instead of exhausting?!

An Yi closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and when he opened them again, he said nothing. He simply reached out, grabbed Lu Lu's arm, pulled him off his side, then stood up and strode toward the door with long, determined steps.

Lu Lu stumbled from the yank, and before he could react, he saw An Yi open the door, then turn back and glance at him with those eerily calm eyes—a look that clearly said, "Get out."

"A-An Yi?" Lu Lu panicked and moved forward.

    "Out." An Yi finally spoke.

"I..." Lu Lu didn't get a chance to finish before An Yi shoved him out.

An Yi didn't look at him again. The second his foot was out the door, he shut it without hesitation.

    "Bang."

The door closed in front of Lu Lu, shutting out the warm light and An Yi's figure.

Lu Lu stood outside, staring at the closed door, dumbfounded.

    He... he got kicked out?

He raised his hand, knocked twice on the door, and called out softly, "An Yi... An Yi, open the door, I'm sorry! I shouldn't have asked that, please let me in?"

    Nothing but silence from inside.

Lu Lu pressed his ear against the door and listened for a while—nothing.

An Yi really was ignoring him now.

He slumped dejectedly against the wall by the door, his heart like a mixed bag of sweet, bitter, and sour.

Sweet because An Yi said yes to being with him! Bitter because he was so dumb he pissed An Yi off and got kicked out right after they got together! Sour because he didn't know how long An Yi would stay mad...

He stood at the door for a long time, knocked a few more times, whispered countless "I'm sorry," "An Yi, don't be mad," "I'll never run my mouth again," but still—no response.

Finally, Lu Lu could only leave An Yi's doorstep, looking back every few steps, dragging his feet, head hanging, as he made his way back to his car parked nearby.

He sat in the driver's seat and closed the door.

Lu Lu pulled out his phone, opened the chat with An Yi, and his fingers tapped on the screen—typing, erasing, erasing, typing—until he finally sent: [An Yi, I'm sorry, don't be mad, I'll watch what I say from now on. (Puppy crying.jpg)]

The message went out like a rock dropped in the ocean—no reply.

Lu Lu waited a bit, then started sending more messages to pester him, but still no response. His heart sank even more.

He slumped over the steering wheel, pressing his hot cheek against the cool leather steering wheel, his mind flipping between the soft "Mm" and that "I like you too" from when An Yi said yes—making him want to scream with joy.

Then it was An Yi glaring at him, exasperated, calling him an "idiot"—so cute it made his heart itch. Then it was An Yi's deadpan "get out" and the slam of the door—making his heart race with anxiety...

After thinking it over and over, that question... he'd just have to wait until An Yi found out for himself before asking again.

Even though he was really embarrassed to ask, An Yi's dumbfounded face was adorable too!

Lu Lu couldn't help but grin like an idiot again.

Either way, An Yi was his boyfriend now!

    ----------

The next day was the weekend, and sunlight spilled through the thin clouds.

Lu Lu woke up early, tossing and turning in bed thinking about last night—An Yi said yes! An Yi was his boyfriend!

But An Yi seemed mad at him again, had kicked him out, and wasn't replying to his texts.

This hot-and-cold feeling messed with him so much he barely slept. As soon as it was light out, he couldn't lie still anymore, got up, cleaned himself up looking sharp, and then started... pacing outside An Yi's place.

He didn't dare go up and knock too early, afraid An Yi was still asleep.

He sat on the bench in the small garden in front of the door for nearly an hour, counted how many trees were along the road, and drafted dozens of apology and kiss-up texts he never dared send, until he figured enough time had passed, then buzzed An Yi's doorbell.

The door opened. An Yi's hair was still a bit messy—he must have just washed up.

"An Yi, good morning." Lu Lu looked at An Yi with puppy-dog eyes, starting his good-boy act.

"Morning." An Yi replied, stepping aside to let him in.

Lu Lu's eyes lit up—great! An Yi wasn't mad anymore!

An Yi actually hadn't taken Lu Lu's stupid question from last night too seriously; it was more about being dumbfounded by his weird way of thinking.

After a night, that speechlessness had mostly faded.

He looked at Lu Lu's cautious, good-boy act and found it kind of funny, and... cute? Whatever, why bother getting mad at this fool.

An Yi glanced at him, didn't bring up last night, just turned toward the counter: "Eaten breakfast yet?"

"Huh? No, not yet." Lu Lu answered honestly.

"What do you want to eat?" An Yi poured a glass of fruit tea and pushed it toward him.

Lu Lu immediately jumped up: "I'll make breakfast!"

He knew—the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. He'd been practicing at home for ages, just waiting for a chance to put it to use.

An Yi chuckled: "Alright, you cook. I want congee."

Lu Lu beamed with a sly grin: "No problem~"

An Yi snorted: "Wipe that greasy look off your face."

Lu Lu straightened up seriously: "No problem!"

After the simple breakfast, An Yi looked at the bright scenery outside the window and suddenly felt inspired: "The weather's nice today. I want to go horseback riding."

Lu Lu immediately responded enthusiastically, practically wagging his tail: "Let's go! Let's go!"

"Mm." An Yi nodded and got up to change clothes.

Lu Lu sat in the living room waiting, his heart full of sweetness.

An Yi was so good to him, not even holding last night's incident against him.

And this sweetness—was this what having a boyfriend felt like?

    So much fun!

The two of them headed back to the horse ranch.

The weekend morning wasn't exactly quiet—there were plenty of people around.

An Yi still rode Lightning, the horse he'd bonded with, and the horse nuzzled his palm affectionately when it spotted him.

After that first time, he'd bought the horse and stabled it at the ranch, making it his personal ride.

"An An, shall we do two laps today?" Lu Lu rode up close, side by side, his tone dripping with obvious affection and a hint of probing.

He'd mulled it over all night, figuring "An Yi" wasn't special enough, and "boyfriend" was too blunt—even though he was dying to use it. In the end, he settled on the reduplicated "An An," which felt both cute and intimate.
