Chapter 306: The Fourteenth Day in the ABO World
by 三根木Chapter 306: Day Fourteen in the ABO World
An Xuan didn't dare to disturb his eldest brother, nor did he dare to ask that very shy Omega junior, Bei Yuke.
An Xuan quickly returned to the dormitory, and his gaze involuntarily drifted toward Wei Yang, who was across from him, wearing headphones, grinning foolishly at his phone screen while his fingers typed rapidly.
A desperate idea was born in An Xuan's mind.
The others saw him rushing back breathlessly, full of confusion, and before they could ask what had happened, he ran up to Wei Yang, took a deep breath, and called out in an extremely tragic yet slightly ingratiating tone:
"Sis—ter—in—law—!"
"..."
His roommates exchanged bewildered looks: "???"
Wei Yang's typing froze. He took off his headphones in a daze and turned to look at An Xuan, whose expression was twisted. "...An Xuan? What did you call me?"
The other two roommates also looked over curiously.
An Xuan was all in now. He pressed his palms together in a pleading gesture: "Sister-in-law! Sister-in-law Wei Yang! For the sake of me calling you sister-in-law, please help me out! Go whisper some sweet nothings in my second brother's ear... er, I mean, put in a good word for me! Tell him to stop piling on more work! At this rate, your dear little brother here is going to die young!"
Wei Yang was basking in the barrage of "sister-in-law" and "sweet nothings," his cheeks turning red right before their eyes.
He coughed and waved his hands repeatedly: "Little brother! I—I haven't even locked down your brother yet! And anyway... I do whatever he says. How could I go against his decisions?"
"Brother?!?!" An Xuan keenly caught that keyword, his voice suddenly shooting up, eyes as wide as saucers:
"What did you call my second brother?! Brother?! Wei Yang, you... when did you start calling him that?! My second brother... he agreed?!"
That was a lot to take in, momentarily making An Xuan forget his own miserable situation, completely blown away by his roommate's shocking progress.
He never pictured Wei Yang and his second brother being like this!
Wei Yang's face grew even redder, his eyes darting around as he stammered an explanation: "It's... just... I called him that, and he didn't say anything against it."
His voice grew quieter as he spoke, but the uncontrollable upward curve of his lips betrayed how pleased he was inside.
An Xuan looked at his lovesick expression, then thought of his second brother's unflappable, smile-at-the-right-moments face, and felt a whole mess of emotions he couldn't even describe.
He pointed at Wei Yang, finger trembling, and after struggling for a long time, finally managed to say:
"Wei Yang, Wei Yang... I never thought you, with that honest, upright face of yours, would actually know how to act all coy! You're already calling him 'brother'?!"
Wei Yang was embarrassed by An Xuan's teasing but felt the need to insist: "I'm not being coy! I mean it!"
With that, like, to prove it, he picked up his phone and sent a message to An Yi: [Brother, An Xuan seems to be under a lot of work pressure lately. He looks really tired (be careful.jpg)]
A moment later, An Yi replied, as concise as ever: [Mm, noted. A jade must be carved to become a gem.]
Wei Yang showed the phone screen to An Xuan, who was staring at him pleadingly.
An Xuan stared at that ice-cold reply, then at Wei Yang's innocent "Hey, I tried, but brother's right" face, and felt like the world went black.
That was it. His last hope was dead.
Not only had he failed to find a savior, but he'd also gotten a front-row seat to a live show of his "future sister-in-law" hanging on his second brother's every word and following his lead (?) like a devoted spouse.
Was there any place left for him in this dorm, or even this family?!
He collapsed back into his chair in despair, feeling like his whole life had gone bleak.
Meanwhile, Wei Yang continued hugging his phone, happily reporting the day's events to his dear brother.
The world's joys and sorrows weren't shared. An Xuan just found them all noisy, and all of them were picking on him, this poor single dog.
----------
Wei Yang's pursuit had gone through "good morning brother" voice messages, nonstop sharing of daily stuff, and various little gifts. Finally, he mustered the courage to take what he considered a milestone step—inviting An Yi to the movies.
The message had been carefully rewritten several times before he hit send: [Brother~ There's a new sci-fi romance movie this weekend, and it has great reviews! Do you have time to go see it with me? (nervous fidgeting.jpg)]
After sending it, Wei Yang tossed his phone onto the bed and bowed like he was praying.
He didn't even dare to check the reply right away, his heart hammering so hard it felt like it might explode.
A roommate walked by and said dryly: "Are you performing some kind of ritual?"
The phone dinged. After mentally preparing himself, he opened it with shaking hands.
An Yi's reply was short and simple: [Sure, I'm free this weekend.]
"Yes!" Wei Yang suddenly jumped up, pumping his fist in the air.
He barely held back the urge to run laps around the dorm. His fingers flew across the screen as he sent over the theater and showtimes he'd already looked up, grinning from ear to ear.
That Saturday afternoon.
Wei Yang arrived at the theater entrance half an hour early. He'd deliberately changed into a brand-new trendy hoodie and slim-fit pants, his hair carefully styled. Looking tall and handsome with a sunny vibe, he stood at the bustling theater entrance, drawing quite a few glances.
As the clock neared the time they'd agreed on, a black car slowly pulled into a parking spot.
The door opened, and An Yi stepped out.
He wore a simple white shirt and casual trousers, with a light trench coat on top. Compared to his usual sharp-suited, executive look, he seemed more relaxed and laid-back.
But his striking features and the composed aura he carried still made him a walking spotlight, instantly becoming the center of attention.
Wei Yang's eyes lit up. He immediately jogged over to greet him, his face lighting up with a huge smile: "Brother! You're here!"
"Mm." An Yi gave a slight nod, his gaze sweeping over Wei Yang's obvious effort to look good, a hint of a smile curling at the corner of his lips: "Been waiting long?"
"No, no! I just got here too!" Wei Yang waved his hands, his heart racing again from An Yi's proximity.
He caught that faint, crisp, pleasant scent on An Yi—it didn't smell like perfume, but he couldn't smell pheromones anyway.
What was that smell? It was making him feel a little lightheaded.
It's probably... probably just perfume, right?
The two walked into the theater side by side.
From getting the tickets to buying popcorn and drinks, Wei Yang was exceptionally enthusiastic and excited throughout the whole process. An Yi smiled and let him take the lead, pointing at the popcorn: "I want the caramel one."
Wei Yang: "Got it!"
After buying everything, An Yi glanced at his watch. The movie was about to start.
