Chapter 514: The 42nd Day of Wearing Into an Alien War Novel (Extra Story 1)

An Yi completed his undergraduate and graduate studies ahead of schedule. In the first year of his doctoral program, An Qionglan booked tickets to Haiqi City once again.

It was the same bay, the same white villa halfway up the mountain, the same terrace where one could watch the sunrise.

Six years ago, the family had come here together. Back then, An Yi was not yet seventeen, and An Cheng was eighteen. Between them lay a thin layer of ice that the sea breeze could not blow away.

Six years had passed, and the thin ice had melted into spring water.

"Xiao Yi, is your luggage all put away?" An Qionglan's voice came from downstairs, with a laugh in her voice: "If you're done, come down! We rented a boat—we're heading out this afternoon!"

"Coming." An Yi answered, pulling the last book out of the box and setting it on the nightstand.

An Cheng was helping him organize his clothes.

At twenty-four, An Cheng was steadier than he'd been six years ago. The boyishness in his face had mostly faded, replaced by a sharp, mature edge.

"Tonight, I'm gonna kiss you like crazy!" An Cheng walked over, took the book from An Yi's hands, placed it on the bookshelf for him, and announced.

    An Yi punched his arm.

"That okay?" An Cheng looked at him.

An Yi paused, then gave a small smile. "Not okay."

An Cheng looked at him for a few seconds, then reached out and pulled An Yi into his arms. "I'm not listening."

An Yi leaned into his chest, wordless, tied the hem of his shirt into a tight knot, then pushed him away and went to find An Qionglan.

An Cheng looked down at the adorable mess of a knot, fixed it a little, and chased after him.

    ----------

That afternoon, the family headed out to sea.

An Qionglan waved. "Xiao Cheng, Xiao Yi, come here! Let me take a picture of you two."

An Cheng took An Yi's hand and led him over.

They stood side by side at the boat's edge, the endless blue sea and clear sky behind them.

An Cheng's hand rested naturally on An Yi's shoulder, and An Yi tilted his head, leaning into his arm.

An Qionglan raised her phone and snapped a few shots.

"Beautiful!" She nodded, satisfied. "Our Xiao Yi looks good in every shot. Xiao Cheng... well, he's just riding on Xiao Yi's coattails."

    An Cheng: "..."

    An Yi laughed out loud.

Then An Yi heard laughter from the beach in the distance.

He looked up and saw a young man holding a young woman's hand, walking side by side along the sand.

Their smiles were bright, like any young couple in love.

An Yi recognized the young man: Hang Mingyuan.

The original male lead of the book.

And the young woman holding his hand, smiling sweetly, was Qu Xinyu—the original female lead, the background character who, in the original story, had fallen into a vegetative state early on and only woke up at the very end.

An Yi stood still, watching them pass by on the beach.

Hang Mingyuan was saying something to Qu Xinyu. She tilted her face up to listen, then laughed and gave him a gentle shove.

The two ran off, playfully shoving each other.

An Yi watched them go and suddenly remembered sixteen years ago, when he'd first arrived in this world. Back then, Hang Mingyuan was a little boy hugging a soccer ball, running around all sweaty, and Qu Xinyu, with pigtails, had run out of the shop to chase after him.

Right—he did the math. It had indeed been sixteen years.

It was time for the plot to start.

    And then—

An Yi heard the comment section, which he hadn't heard in a long time.

"See, the male lead has to be hot! That's the only way we readers can self-insert!"

"What the hell? What do you mean? The male lead shows up with a girlfriend already, and she's his childhood sweetheart? Is that even allowed?"

"How are we supposed to self-insert into this?! @Author! Answer me!"

"Such a classic description—big chest, small waist, long legs, long hair..."

    "I like it, hehe!"

"Wait! Hold up! What is this?"

"I think my eyes are messing with me? Can any handsome guy here tell me how to read these three characters? Am I hallucinating? (Too scared to open my eyes, hoping it's just my imagination.jpg)"

"Let me do it. I went to elementary school. No matter how I look at it, these three characters say 'THE END'! (Shocked.jpg)"

    "???"

"@Author! How dare you play us! What does 'The End' mean? Isn't this supposed to be Chapter 1?!"

"What do you mean? You just write the leads showing off their love and then it's over? Where are the aliens from the synopsis? Where's the superhuman stuff? Huh? I'm asking you! I'm asking you!"

"Are you treating us readers like idiots?! @Author! You #$@*& %#@! Screw you!)"

    "God-tier book!"

    "..."

    An Yi: "..."

There would be no alien war. This world would develop safely from now on, without losing two-thirds of its population.

Nor would they have to unknowingly face the erosion of energy from the alien world after defeating the Riftborn, or face a future that might mean the extinction of humanity.

    "Xiao Yi!"

An Cheng's voice came from behind him.

    An Yi turned.

An Cheng came up beside him and wrapped his arms around him naturally. "What're you looking at?"

"Just looking around," An Yi said.

An Cheng looked at him, leaned in to give him a peck, and said, "Then why not look at me?"

"I see you every day, so I don't want to now," An Yi shook his head.

    An Cheng: "..."

He did the math—they'd been together for almost seven years.

He gave An Yi a hurt look: "Is this the legendary seven-year itch? I'm so upset. Tonight, you'll have to go all out to make it up to me."

An Yi was amused by him.

    "You wish!" he said.

"Hmm? I will," An Cheng replied.

An Yi pushed him off and scooted closer to An Qionglan.

    An Qionglan: "..."

She had, in fact, half-heard their whispered exchange.

Didn’t particularly like the alien story but got through it. Hoping for a better one.
