Chapter 243: The Fourteenth Day of Being Trapped in a Restricted Novel

The words Jiang Lin wanted to say were abruptly choked off, a breath stuck in his chest, stuck halfway.

He glared angrily at Chu Chen, his tone aggressive: “Who are you? When I’m talking to An Yi, is it your place to interrupt?”

An Yi’s gaze turned cold. He reached out and gently pulled Chu Chen back behind him—a movement that carried a natural protectiveness.

He raised his eyes, staring directly at Jiang Lin: “Get lost.”

Jiang Lin’s face twitched violently. A wave of rage surged to his head.

He wanted to lose his temper, to throw his weight around as the Jiang family’s young master, but looking into An Yi’s eyes and recalling all the recent strange misfortunes, he forced the anger down. His heart raced like a drumbeat, and a growing sense of impending doom.

He struggled to maintain his composure: “You… didn’t you already beat us up that day? Shouldn’t you be over it by now? We’re all friends here—why go to such extremes? Better to mend fences than to keep enemies. Maybe… maybe there’s some misunderstanding between us. We could sit down and talk it over…”

Before he could finish, An Yi looked at him and let out a very faint laugh.

The laugh was short, devoid of any joy, instead carrying a chilling, creepy quality.

“Next,” An Yi said quietly, just loud enough for Jiang Lin to hear. “Your turn.”

Jiang Lin’s pupils suddenly contracted. His lips began to tremble uncontrollably. In panic, he stumbled backwards a couple of steps, as if trying to get away from something terrifying.

“You… what did you do?!” His voice turned shrill, cracking with alarm. “Was it you?! I can’t get in touch with him anymore! Wu Zhishang… was it you who did something to him?!”

Just then, Chu Chen, standing behind An Yi, didn’t fully grasp the specifics, but from Jiang Lin’s words and attitude, he quickly extracted the key information: this guy had once tried to hurt An Yi. Though he had failed, he showed no remorse—instead brazenly attempted a “reconciliation” laced with veiled accusations and threats!

    Chu Chen was angry.

A pure, simple emotion: Jiang Lin had done something wrong, refused to apologize or face the consequences, and yet demanded that the victim be magnanimous?!

Especially when that victim was An Yi!!

So, as Jiang Lin frantically questioned An Yi, Chu Chen stepped forward, stood in front of Jiang Lin, adjusted his glasses, and said with complete seriousness:

“Based on your words and behavior, your logical reasoning skills are seriously lacking. You’re trying to gloss over your own wrongdoing by claiming the other person ‘wasn’t actually harmed,’ thereby avoiding responsibility. That’s an inefficient and unethical way to behave.”

“You clearly tried to hurt An Yi—and you failed—yet now you pretend nothing happened and even call him a friend?”

“You say better to resolve grudges than to hold them, but who started it? Wasn’t it you?”

“Your current behavior, by any common standard, can be described as ‘shameless’ and ‘utterly stupid’!”

“In short, you are a morally deficient… a… a pig!!”

He even stumbled a bit on “pig.”

Looks like he doesn’t curse often.

An Yi’s icy expression instantly cracked at Chu Chen’s unexpected, righteous outburst. He couldn’t help but let out a low laugh, genuine delight flickering in his eyes.

He even silently added: I have never seen such a shameless person!

Looking at Jiang Lin, whose face cycled through green, white, and red, An Yi said lightly, with detached indifference: “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

With that, he ignored Jiang Lin, who stood frozen, and gently took Chu Chen’s wrist—still simmering with anger—and said warmly, “Let’s go.”

As they turned to leave, An Yi leaned close to Chu Chen’s ear and whispered, just for them to hear, with a hint of teasing: “I never thought our Dr. Curly’s way of cursing would be so… special.”

“But… isn’t it a bit unfair to pigs? They do taste good, though.”

Unfortunately, Chu Chen was still caught up in his anger over someone bullying An Yi without any remorse. His brow was still slightly furrowed, and he didn’t react to An Yi’s joke.

Seeing him all puffed up like that, An Yi sighed softly to himself.

Well, telling a joke that got no response really was a bit boring.

Jiang Lin stood there, his face pale as paper, his body chilled. He watched helplessly as An Yi and that sharp-tongued man walked away.

An Yi’s final words—“Your turn next”—echoed in his mind like a curse, replaying over and over again.

Could it really be An Yi?

    ----------

When they reached the car, Chu Chen opened the car door and let An Yi get in first.

Just as he settled into the passenger seat and closed the door, about to buckle his seatbelt, he heard from the driver’s seat—Chu Chen, who had been frowning just a moment ago—suddenly, without warning—

    “Ah!”

He let out a short sound of sudden realization.

An Yi turned to look at him, surprised.

He saw that Chu Chen’s earlier anger had vanished, replaced by a look of sudden enlightenment. Then, the corners of his mouth began to curl up uncontrollably, and a low laugh escaped from his throat.

At first just a soft chuckle, but it quickly grew louder and more uncontrollable. He laughed so hard he doubled over, his shoulders shaking, his glasses sliding down his nose. He was completely immersed in a huge, belated wave of joy.

    An Yi: “?????”

He was utterly baffled by Chu Chen’s sudden reaction, still holding his seatbelt and forgetting to buckle it. “...What’s wrong with you?”

Chu Chen laughed for a while before finally straightening up, wiping the tears of laughter from his eyes. He turned to An Yi, his eyes sparkling, and said excitedly, “An Yi! What you said just now… it was so funny!”

    An Yi: “...”

He was stunned for a couple of seconds, then realized what had happened. An absurd sense of ridiculousness and amusement washed over him.

So he hadn’t ignored me—he just had a delayed reaction?!

And was it really that funny? He didn't see what was so hilarious!

Looking at Chu Chen’s face flushed from laughing, An Yi couldn’t hold back anymore and started laughing softly himself.

At first restrained, but seeing Chu Chen's unrestrained joy, he caught the infection. His laughter grew louder.

    Laughter really is contagious!

Inside the closed car, the two of them—one because of a delayed punchline, the other because of the other’s cuteness and the overall absurdity of the situation—laughed together for a long time.

An Yi clicked his seatbelt into place, caught his breath, and looked at Chu Chen, who was still chuckling foolishly. He shook his head helplessly, a smile lingering on his lips.

This whole thing… it was so strange.

    But it seemed… not bad.
