Chapter 479: Day 7 into the Alien War Story
by 三根木Chapter 479: Day Seven of Transmigrating into an Alien War Novel
As An Yi walked out of the neighborhood gate, he spotted a figure darting out of a small shop nearby.
It was a little boy, around five or six years old, wearing a T-shirt and shorts, running with sweat dripping down his face, yet wearing a grin that made anyone who saw it want to cover their ears.
He clutched a grimy soccer ball to his chest, running and shouting back over his shoulder: "Xin Yu! Hurry up! We're going to miss the cartoon!"
A bright little girl's voice rang out from the shop: "Wait up! Hang Mingyuan, you're running too fast!"
The boy, Hang Mingyuan, stopped at the curb, stomping his feet impatiently and catching his breath as he waited for his friend.
The streetlight hit his face, showing off a young face with bright eyes that practically screamed mischief and slyness.
An Yi's eyes landed on him.
At almost the same moment, the original novel's information from this transmigration flooded into An Yi's mind—about the fate of this world, the boy in front of him who would become the protagonist, a disaster that would engulf the globe, and an alien race hiding behind spatial rifts.
An Yi stood there, blinking.
This time, there was no comment section chatter, because there were still sixteen years until the story started.
Plenty of time, then.
Right, this kid Hang Mingyuan, clutching a soccer ball and waiting for his childhood sweetheart, was the story's protagonist.
Sixteen years later, he'd become humanity's blade against the alien invasion, awaken superhuman powers, lead humanity to victory, and ultimately become Earth's most powerful superhuman.
As for An Yi himself?...
The original novel had almost nothing on "An Yi"—not even enough to be cannon fodder, just a single mention of his name.
Only at the story's end, when Hang Mingyuan became a hero and his two underlings—An Yi's twin younger brothers—returned home to reunite with their parents, did the family see both sons achieve great things.
The father would say with relief: "This is all good fortune, fortune that came after hardship."
Then the twins would ask, and only then would the father mention that there had once been an older brother named An Yi who was abducted.
Only then did they learn they had an older brother they'd never heard of, but it didn't matter—they hoped their parents wouldn't be sad, that they'd take care of them, including the older brother's share. Naturally, the parents were comforted, and the family was overjoyed.
In the end, it was a picture of a happy, harmonious family.
The story didn't even say whether that "An Yi" was alive or dead.
He was just a name, a backdrop to highlight the twins' filial devotion and the parents' relief—an existence that didn't even count as cannon fodder.
An Yi: "..."
Okay, then.
He still couldn't wrap his head around it.
He tilted his head a little and saw another little girl run out of the shop, with two pigtails, a few small freckles, and crescent-shaped eyes—super cute.
She ran up to Hang Mingyuan, out of breath and complaining: "It's all your fault, you had to play so late!"
"It's your fault for not wanting to go!" Hang Mingyuan made a face.
The two kids ran off, their laughter fading into the night.
Hang Mingyuan came from an ordinary working-class family, with an older sister and a younger sister.
His childhood sweetheart Qu Xinyu was the story's female lead—though her role was so small she was almost a background character.
The two grew up together, got into the same university, started dating, graduated, found jobs, and planned to marry—until the world started changing drastically.
Alien creatures appeared, and research showed they were like extraterrestrial organisms, carrying elements that don't exist on Earth.
At first, it was just isolated incidents that got attention, then nations started investigating and setting up special departments.
Later, the incidents multiplied, and the alien creatures began slaughtering en masse, claiming territory, with some possessing superhuman powers.
War broke out between the alien creatures and humanity.
At first, humanity was caught off guard, but then organized forces fought back, and it turned into a stalemate.
Hang Mingyuan and Qu Xinyu lost their parents and relatives in the catastrophe, but Hang Mingyuan unexpectedly discovered he'd awakened an ability: killing alien creatures let him absorb their power.
So he set out on the hard path of exterminating alien creatures, joined the national forces, and eventually became a leader among them.
Unlike the first alien creatures, the ones that appeared later in large numbers started to organize, with more numbers and variety. Plus, humanity discovered that behind the alien creatures, their commanders were intelligent beings.
So humanity concluded this was a fight for survival between different races.
At the same time, people noticed that after the alien creatures showed up, some humans on Earth also awakened superhuman powers. By the later parts of the novel, the superhuman powers got stronger and stronger, making Earth's conventional weapons useless.
The later part of the novel was all about superhuman abilities going head-to-head.
Of course, Hang Mingyuan and the others never stopped investigating how these alien creatures appeared?!
Why did they show up on Earth?!
Through brutal battles and unexpected events, Hang Mingyuan and his companions traveled to another world, picked up some info along the way, and later returned to Earth badly wounded.
He and the people around him kept investigating, slowly uncovering the truth.
It turned out the alien creatures' leaders were a race of intelligent beings called the "Riftborn," who could observe parallel worlds, travel through space, and conquer them, claiming them as their own territory.
For the natives, they'd either enslave them, making them slaves of their race to conquer other parallel worlds for their rule.
But if the natives resisted, they'd just wipe out the entire race, leaving only the territory and resources behind.
Their race had a hard time reproducing, needing to absorb power from various parallel worlds to keep developing.
They lacked formidable martial strength themselves, but fortunately, they stumbled upon a world where the creatures were far more powerful than those in other worlds, some even possessing wondrous abilities that left them spellbound!
But the best part was that these beings had no intelligence—they were merely beasts!
So they naturally went to that world, tamed those creatures for their race's conquests!
To achieve this goal, they sacrificed over half their people, leaving only a little over three hundred final survivors.
But in the end, they achieved their objective and used these creatures to annihilate the native races of several worlds.
These creatures were the alien beings wreaking havoc on Earth.
The Riftborn were smug and self-satisfied, until one day, they discovered Earth.
Look! My people! How wonderful this place is—we must claim it!
It's just that those annoying parasitic natives on Earth should disappear!
