Chapter 67: Day 19 of Transmigrating into a Doomsday Superpowered Novel

An Yi walked like the wind, continuously sending his mental energy down to probe the ground, and indeed sensed something off.

He quickened his pace, with an unusual sense of urgency, heading straight to the meeting room in the central command building.

The guards at the entrance recognized him and didn’t stop him, though they were a bit taken aback by his unusually grave expression.

He shoved open the heavy doors of the meeting room, interrupting the heated discussion that was underway inside.

Around the long table, all the squad leaders and senior management had gathered. Ji Qin sat at the head, and Ji Zishi was notably among them.

Now, all eyes were fixed on An Yi, who had burst in.

    “An Yi?”

Ji Zishi stood up first, his eyes full of surprise and concern: “What’s wrong?”

He acutely sensed the unusual tension coming off An Yi.

Ji Qin also furrowed her brow slightly, raising a hand to signal the person who was speaking to stop: “An Yi, we’re having an operations meeting.”

An Yi swept his gaze across the room without any pleasantries. He walked over to Ji Qin and got straight to the point, his voice calm but with a persuasive, cutting edge that brooked no argument:

“Stop the meeting. I have an urgent report. I’ve sensed an extremely intense, ominous aura rising from deep underground. It’s massive and rapidly approaching our base.”

“The eastern and western directions are the main threats. They come from underground, and the aura is very similar to the mutated fungal mats we encountered before, but far more mixed and immense.”

A moment of silence fell over the room, then erupted into an uproar.

Ji Qin’s expression turned cold in an instant: “Are you sure?”

    An Yi nodded.

Ji Qin pushed open the window and leaped down to investigate.

Before she returned, a voice rang out.

“Underground? Ominous aura?” A burly, scar-faced squad leader slammed the table and stood up, his tone full of suspicion and dissatisfaction:

“An Yi! Do you know what you’re talking about? Just based on your gut feeling? Our current detectors are showing no abnormalities! You’re undermining morale!”

It was the leader of the Fifth Squad.

Another harsh, mocking voice chimed in from a civilian administrator. Thinking of the recent rumors about An Yi and Ji Zishi, he felt disgusted:

“Exactly! An Yi, while your abilities are decent, such baseless speculation, interrupting an important meeting like this…”

He recalled something and laughed loudly: “Ha! Could it be that because Captain Ji has been giving you ‘special attention’ lately, you’ve gotten the mistaken idea that you can make shocking claims out of nowhere?”

“Just crawled out of Captain Ji’s bed… You just woke up, did you lose your mind?”

The innuendo was extremely malicious, instantly linking An Yi’s warning to his rumored relationship with Ji Zishi, attempting to dismiss it as a joke to grab attention.

He refused to believe anyone could sense an ominous aura before the machines.

“What the hell are you talking about?!”

Ji Zishi instantly exploded with rage, terrifying lightning crackling around him, as if the air pressure in the whole room had plummeted. He glared at that man, his eyes so fierce they could kill: “Shut your damn mouth! Who do you think An Yi is? Would he joke about something like this?! Say one more word and I’ll toss you out to the mutants myself!”

The man went pale under Ji Zishi’s presence, instinctively stepping back, but still refusing to back down verbally:

“Captain Ji! You’re letting personal feelings get in the way of work! Just because your relationship with him isn’t ordinary, can he…”

    “My relationship with him?”

An Yi suddenly spoke. His voice was not loud, but it was like a cold stream, instantly dousing the agitation and anger in the meeting room.

He slowly turned his head toward that man, his eyes calm and steady, yet so deep they sent a chill down everyone’s spine.

He didn’t release any supernatural pressure, but an intangible commanding presence suddenly permeated the room.

“Sir,” An Yi said in a tone that was almost polite, but carried a cold, condescending judgment:

“May I ask, based on which detection data, which reconnaissance report, are you concluding that my perception is a ‘baseless speculation’? And based on which base regulation, does it say personal relationships can be grounds to question a wartime report?”

He leaned forward slightly: “In your view, is ensuring the base’s safety and reducing unnecessary casualties less important than the pleasure of gossiping about others’ private lives here without any constructive purpose?”

“I…” The man was rendered speechless, his face turning beet red. Under those eyes that seemed to see through everything, he couldn’t even utter a complete sentence, only feeling a chill run down his spine.

He caved: “I was just joking.”

An Yi looked at him, a faint, gentle smile spreading across his face: “A joke? Is that so?”

    “Heh~”

He let out a laugh, then the smile vanished from his face. His eyes narrowed, cold and sharp: “I don’t like that joke. Please shut up.”

“If you can’t shut it yourself, I don’t mind shutting it for you permanently.”

An Yi didn’t look at him again. He turned his gaze to Ji Qin, who had just returned, his tone steady again: “Chief, you sensed it too, didn’t you?”

“Better safe than sorry. Activate the highest level of defense protocols immediately, focus defense on the east and west sides, and reinforce underground defenses. It’s still not too late. Otherwise, the consequences would be disastrous.”

The entire meeting room fell quiet again, everyone looking at Ji Qin.

Ji Qin’s eyes were as sharp as an eagle’s. She nodded at An Yi.

    Without any hesitation.

She spoke decisively: “I command: As of now, Blazing Fortress is on Level One combat readiness! Activate all defensive facilities! All combat personnel report to their stations! Prioritize defense of the eastern and western sectors! Set underground sensors to maximum sensitivity! All civilians immediately enter shelters!”

“Communications Department! Send this warning and our Level One status at top priority to every safe base we can reach! Warn them to watch for similar attacks, especially threats from underground!”

With Ji Qin’s orders, everyone knew this wasn’t just a baseless alarm.

Orders came one after another, and the entire command center kicked into high gear. A piercing siren blared across Blazing Fortress a moment later!

As An Yi busied himself, he kept an ear on the mental comment section, looking for any useful information:

    “Aaaaaaah!”

    “Thank goodness for An Yi!”

“Sorry, I take back all those times I called you a villain!”

    “So sharp! Love it!”

    Whoa, so sensitive!

"Sensitive? Ji Zishi is one lucky guy!"

    "Teacher, you..."

    "An Yi is so handsome!"

"Ji Zishi, you're living the dream!"

    "..."

    "I'm just speechless!!!"
