Chapter 63: Into a Post-Apocalyptic Superpower Novel, Day 15
by 三根木Chapter 63: Day Fifteen of Transmigrating into a Doomsday Superpower Novel
Every sense seemed to concentrate on the places where his body touched An Yi’s—the warmth seeping through the fabric and the rise and fall of An Yi's steady breathing, jolting through him like electricity, making his heart pound so hard he nearly jumped out of his skin!
Feeling the arm around his waist tighten, An Yi looked down at Ji Zishi, whose eyes were still closed. For a moment, he couldn’t tell if he was awake or just moving unconsciously. He observed closely, and saw Ji Zishi’s trembling eyelashes.
Oh... so he's awake.
Realizing Ji Zishi was awake, An Yi immediately reached out and pushed him up from his sore shoulder: “If you’re awake, get up.”
Ji Zishi stiffened for a moment, then withdrew his arm from around An Yi’s waist, flustered, he straightened up. His face burned as he looked up at An Yi’s sharply defined profile from below, speaking in a low voice:
“Ahem... The thing is, sorry, I guess I move around a lot in my sleep.”
He saw An Yi move his shoulder slightly, which had obviously been pressed for a long time, and a look of even greater remorse and apology immediately appeared on his face. Instinctively, he reached out:
“I-I’ll rub it for you?”
“It’s fine, I’ll do it myself,” An Yi refused.
Ji Zishi’s outstretched hand froze mid-air, his fingers curling slightly. Slowly, he withdrew it, looking a little disappointed.
His lips parted several times, as if he wanted to say something to make up for it, but in the end, nothing came out. He just pressed his lips together, silently burying the churning mix of embarrassment, shame, and a hint of inexplicable loss deep inside.
----------
The convoy finally drove back to the high walls of Liaoyuan Fort as dusk settled.
After a strict and meticulous inspection, the exhausted team was allowed to enter.
Ji Zishi barely stopped to catch his breath as he went to hand over tasks and report the emergency, while An Yi went straight back to his personal dormitory.
He locked the door, and instead of collapsing into bed immediately, he cautiously extended his consciousness into that vast space.
That huge lump of completely frozen fungal mat sample still hovered silently in the corner, completely lifeless.
After confirming it hadn’t moved, An Yi finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Originally, he had planned to deal with it when he had time, but after thinking it over, he decided to keep it; maybe it would be useful later.
An overwhelming wave of exhaustion engulfed him. He only managed to take off his dust-and-grime-covered combat uniform before collapsing onto his bed and falling into a deep sleep.
He slept extremely soundly, until the noise outside the next morning pierced his dreams, jolting him awake.
After quickly washing up and changing, he joined Ji Zishi and headed to the command building’s meeting room, as per Ji Qin’s instructions from the day before.
The atmosphere in the meeting room was heavy and solemn.
Seated around the long table were the core management of Liaoyuan Fort and the captains of various combat teams. Ji Qin sat at the head, her expression icy.
No one objected to An Yi’s presence; presumably, Ji Qin had already informed them.
The meeting jumped straight to the point.
Ji Qin first had Ji Zishi give a detailed rundown on the entire encounter with the new type of mutant fungal mat, including its terrifying regeneration rate, corrosiveness, resistance to conventional fire, and the fact that only extreme cold and her own purifying flames could effectively suppress it.
As Ji Zishi described it, the atmosphere in the room grew heavier.
“...In summary,” Ji Zishi concluded, “The appearance of this mutant means we may need to completely rethink our past understanding of doomsday threats. Its danger level far exceeds any mutant creature or zombie currently in our records.”
Then An Yi was invited to add his remarks.
He stepped forward, speaking calmly and clearly, emphasizing how the “aura” emitted by this fungal mat differed from previous enemies—a more primordial, corrosive, and deathly energy.
He reiterated the urgent need to increase patrol frequency across the entire area, expand reconnaissance range, and upgrade defensive fortifications.
“I suspect this is not an isolated case,” An Yi said in closing, his gaze sweeping the room. “Perhaps it’s just a precursor or a branch of some greater threat. We must be prepared for worse scenarios.”
Ji Qin listened, then rapped the table sharply with her finger, rendering her decision: “We cannot wait until disaster strikes to react.”
“I command: First, effective immediately, Liaoyuan Fort’s defense level is raised to the highest. All defenses undergo maintenance and reinforcement. Second, expand patrol ranges outward, double patrol teams, and equip them with heavy firepower. Third, give priority to analyzing the sample data in the research institute and fully develop weapons and protective equipment to counter this type of corrosion and regeneration. Fourth...”
She paused, her sharp gaze landing on the communications chief: “Immediately, through encrypted channels, share today’s findings, combat data, and the new defense plan to all safe bases in contact with us.”
“Warn them to be on the lookout for similar threats. Advise them to take corresponding measures immediately. This is not a request—it’s a necessary early warning! We cannot stand alone.”
In the face of doomsday, humanity is a community with a shared destiny. Strengthening just one base’s defenses is not enough.
The meeting lasted a full morning, finalizing countless details.
After adjourning, everyone left with grim faces, rushing off to execute their tasks.
An Yi walked swiftly through the slightly noisy corridors of Liaoyuan Fort, mentally reviewing the many defensive details agreed upon in the meeting.
Just then, the voices from the comments chimed in again:
“Holy shit! Holy shit! Is this about to trigger the final dungeon?!”
“Excited! Pumped!”
“No! Author, come out here and let me have a word with you! What about daily life? What about base building? I haven’t had enough yet! (Pounding the ground and sobbing)”
“Raises hand weakly... Am I the only one who took serious notes while Ji Zishi was talking, analyzing eighteen ways to cook the fungal mat? He made me hungry. (Not really) (Foodie mistakenly entered)”
“......”
“Isn’t that shit? How can you get hungry from that?”
“↑↑↑ Girl, is your stomach connected to another dimension? That stuff looks like matcha-flavored slime mixed with rotten meat! (Barfing)”
“What shit? That’s something that grew off Mother Earth!”
“So... is that fungal mat actually Mother Earth's dandruff? (Suddenly thoughtful)”
“?????????”
“Too insane, language system temporarily crashed.”
“Then I wouldn’t eat it either...”
“Who actually wants to eat it? How did the topic get so derailed?”
“......”
An Yi twitched his mouth. Can't they say something useful for once?!
But that foodie... has some seriously weird taste, huh?
Helplessly, he shook his head internally and forcefully pushed those noises to the background of his mind.
Maybe cos it can regenerate infinite matcha?????
