Chapter 58 Love Cheating
byChapter 58: Love Cheats
Lin Jianyuan’s original plan was to march into the office tomorrow and shove his resignation letter in that idiot Jiang Chen’s face.
Even if he had to pay a penalty for breaching the contract, he couldn’t care less.
After all, he’s got a cushy job now.
He’s got a cushy job, man.
After reading the contract and realizing he’d be pulling in a million a year, Lin Jianyuan’s attitude changed in a flash.
He suddenly felt like none of it mattered anymore.
With his family’s household income hitting three mil, why waste breath on that idiot?
Lin Jianyuan even felt a sense of pity toward Jiang Chen.
He almost pitied the guy for clearly being a few screws loose.
After all, Jiang Chen wasn’t making three million a year—but he was.
Jiang Chen didn’t have an unbearably adorable digestive system as a wife—but he somehow! miraculously! did!
So why waste time arguing with him?
Is this what they call "the conscience of the rich"?
Woo!
Lin Jianyuan decided on the spot to take his wife on a honeymoon first!
"Honey, is there anywhere you’d like to go…"
Just as Lin Jianyuan was about to grab his phone to book flight tickets, he suddenly facepalmed!
Duh, of course! How could he forget!
His wife was a Class S heretic!
Why bother booking tickets to go out?
His wife could just teleport them there!
"A trip?" His roommate leaned in, their soft, damp esophagus pressing against him as they looked at his phone together. "Not sure. I’ve never traveled before."
Lin Jianyuan almost went into his "oh, my sweet, broke darling" mode again, but caught himself the next second.
When his wife said she’d never traveled, she probably really meant she’d never "traveled" before.
After all, wherever she went, it was always a "whoosh" and she was there.
Teleportation had no fanfare.
It didn’t feel like traveling at all!
"Then this time, I’ll take you on a proper trip!" Lin Jianyuan said excitedly, checking out popular travel routes recommended on the platform.
And then he realized another problem.
…No money.
Even though he and his wife combined made three mil plus a year, that was just what was written on the contract.
They’d only just got hired today.
They hadn’t begun working yet.
So, they hadn’t been paid.
Lin Jianyuan went silent.
Should he threaten the Management Bureau with a Class S heretic to get an advance on their pay?
Lin Jianyuan laughed at his own shameless thought.
His roommate tapped the corner of his mouth again. "What’s so funny?"
Lin Jianyuan: "I’m laughing at how wicked I am."
Roommate: "?"
His roommate’s duodenum curled into a question mark. Lin Jianyuan burst out laughing and leaned in to kiss them.
Well, what can you expect from a couple in the newlywed phase?
All the hugging and cuddling had no holding back.
Hugging led to more kissing.
They kissed until they were satisfied, until they were completely blissed out.
Dizzy from all the affection, Lin Jianyuan glanced at his bank balance—a measly two grand—and after some serious thought, said:
"Let’s wait until we get our first paycheck before going out!"
His roommate had never "traveled" before.
So this time, Lin Jianyuan was going to show her the ropes of what "traveling," as humans loved it, was all about.
Early the next morning, the alarm went off at 5 a.m.
They’d been all lovey-dovey until midnight, so when the alarm rang, they’d only slept for two hours.
Lin Jianyuan felt like dying. He reached out to turn off the alarm.
Before his hand could reach it, the alarm stopped on its own.
A section of intestines tweaked his cheek, and his roommate leaned over to kiss his ear.
Lin Jianyuan couldn’t help but smile. He turned to face his wife, pulled her into his arms, and blissfully went back to sleep.
Wait.
Go back to sleep… my ass!!!
Lin Jianyuan jolted awake and leaped out of bed.
Ding dong—the doorbell rang.
Lin Jianyuan hopped to the door one-legged while pulling up his pants, opening it for Shi Shaoning looking totally awkward.
"So, uh, have you eaten breakfast yet? My wife was just about to make..." Lin Jianyuan trailed off, sensing the tension.
Looking up, he noticed Shi Shaoning’s puffy eyes and an ominous pallor.
Sheer resentment was about to blow the roof off.
With a cold expression, Shi Shaoning slapped a folder onto the table.
"ID card," he said, seeming rushed as he turned to leave. "I have an urgent business trip. I'll give you the tour later."
"Huh?" It was all too sudden, and Lin Jianyuan was still a bit groggy so early in the morning. Still dazed, he followed, but Shi Shaoning was already hurrying down the stairs.
The clacking of leather boots had a certain cool, SWAT-team vibe.
Clearly, he hadn’t even had time to head to the movie set before being called back to work overtime by the Bureau.
"You’re so busy—maybe someone else could do it?" Lin Jianyuan called after him. "Can’t someone else give us the tour?"
The clacking of boots paused.
Whether he was feeling dizzy or conflicted, Shi Shaoning stood on the steps, tilted his head back, and let out a long sigh.
Then, through gritted teeth and with an air of immense resentment, he said, "No!"
Clack, clack, clack.
Shi Shaoning hurried off in his leather boots.
Leaving Lin Jianyuan standing at the doorway in flip-flops, one pant leg still undone, utterly bewildered.
"What’s he doing?" His roommate drifted over to Lin Jianyuan, resting his head on his shoulder.
With a sympathetic sigh, Lin Jianyuan said, "When you’re too responsible at work, you end up with endless overtime..."
Roommate: "?"
Puzzled, his roommate asked, "What counts as being responsible?"
Lin Jianyuan: "."
Thinking it over, it was already absurd enough that his roommate, a heretic, was working for humans at the Bureau.
He probably wasn’t all that responsible.
Imagine the roommate being sent out on a mission.
Then his phone rings—it’s Lin Jianyuan calling to ask when he’ll be off work.
What do you think would happen?
The roommate would definitely abandon his teammates on the spot, clacking his way home while saying sweetly, "Right now!" Ah~
...Lin Jianyuan started laughing again just thinking about it.
"What’s so funny?" The roommate extended his duodenum, poking him. Poking the corner of his mouth, poking his cheek. "Are you crazy in love with me again this morning?"
"You’re so full of yourself!" Lin Jianyuan hmphed. "What, you think every time I laugh it’s because of you? Can’t I just laugh at something else suddenly?"
"Not because of me?"
"Nope."
"I don’t believe you."
"Why not? You narcissist."
"Then I’ll kiss you. Chu~"
"!!!"
"See, you’re laughing again. Now you’re laughing because of me, right?"
"Ahhh."
Lin Jianyuan covered his mouth, unable to stop laughing. "You’re cheating!!"
The roommate said nothing, just kept smiling.
Kept leaning in to kiss him.
I’m done for, so done for.
"I get it now, no wonder I’m so obsessed with you!" Lin Jianyuan ran around covering his mouth, grumbling, "It’s because you eat up all my negative emotions! When I’m with you, all I feel is happiness—no wonder I’ve gone love-struck!"
Roommate: "What’s wrong with that?"
Lin Jianyuan: "I can’t take it, you’re cheating! If we ever argue, you’ll just kiss me, and then how are we supposed to fight? You’ll just eat up all my anger! You’re such a sneaky offal, how can you cheat at relationships like this!"
"Ah." The roommate tilted his "head." "Love involves arguing too? So complicated."
Lin Jianyuan: "..."
I can’t take it.
Really, I can’t take it.
Lin Jianyuan looked at the warm, soft pink offal in front of him and couldn’t hold back any longer. He sighed softly and pulled his wife back into his arms.
Chu~
I can’t take it.
So adorable.
Such an adorable wife is going to be kissed to death by him!!!
The two returned to the dining table and opened the package Shi Shaoning had delivered.
Lin Jianyuan felt genuinely touched. After all, Shi Shaoning was so busy, yet he’d made a special trip to deliver the package before his business trip.
As he tore open the folder, he even wondered: Could there be a secret mission note hidden inside? Was this actually some kind of undercover assignment he was being assigned?
But no.
Inside the folder were just an ID card, a bank card, and a note with instructions.
For example:
No face-scanning for boarding public transport!
Not allowed to set up face recognition payments on XX Pay!
The bank card’s ID verification is done, but biometrics are invalid. Set your own password. Fingerprint access won’t work.
...In short, it covered everything, listing many rules and regulations.
Lin Jianyuan: "..."
What is all this gibberish saying?
Too long, didn’t read.
Anyway, his wife now has an ID... as a heretic!
And he even has a bank card!
Ah, so this is what it’s like to be part of the system.
All that red tape, but they’re really efficient!
Lin Jianyuan felt great. Seeing that it was still early, he felt even more pleased.
Time to cuddle with his wife and go back to sleep~
As lovely as an extra snooze was, he still had to go to the company.
Off to quit my job~
Just thinking about resigning made Lin Jianyuan feel like Jiang Chen and Yu Xiuli, those two idiots, didn’t seem so annoying anymore.
After all, he had a wife now!
And both of them had stable jobs!
They even pulled in over three million a year combined!!!
Lin Jianyuan pulled his wife over and planted a loud kiss on his lips.
He felt pumped right away!
"Wife! I’m heading out to resign!" Lin Jianyuan said, full of determination.
For his last day at work, Lin Jianyuan decided to take the subway for the symbolism.
"Okay. Be careful on your way~" His roommate stood gently by the doorframe, waving his duodenum at him.
Skkrt—
Lin Jianyuan habitually took out the squeeze toy, about to skip, when he suddenly remembered something and exclaimed, "So you can really control time?"
The squeeze toy, as if mortally offended, squeezed out from between his fingers indignantly: "Otherwise!!!"
Lin Jianyuan nodded: "Then you’re pretty impressive. No wonder you’re an A-rank."
"Huh?" The squeeze toy, not expecting such praise, couldn’t help but beam with joy and pushed its luck: "Right, right? I told you I’m your most useful minion! So I’m going to make a request! Lin Jianyuan, can you appoint me as—"
Squelch.
The useful minion was squished.
Lin Jianyuan happily skipped the entire subway ride.
Squeeze toy: "..."
After the skip ended, the squeeze toy wanted to continue the earlier topic.
But Lin Jianyuan’s phone burst into waves of laughter.
Little Stone: "Hahaha!"
Angel’s Eye: "Hahahaha!"
Maw of the Abyss: "Hahahahaha!"
The squeeze toy instantly turned bright red.
After taking a few steps, Lin Jianyuan remembered something, took out the squeeze toy, and asked, "What were you saying earlier? I skipped too fast and didn’t hear."
"N-nothing!" the squeeze toy whimpered.
Lin Jianyuan: "?"
Why’s it crying now?
Whatever, maybe it’s just got too much moisture in its body.
However, Lin Jianyuan’s happy mood only lasted until he entered the company.
As soon as he stepped into the elevator, he came face-to-face with the two people he disliked the most.
Jiang Chen and Yu Xiuli.
Like Pavlov’s reflex, Lin Jianyuan found that even though he was here to resign, the sight of these two still annoyed him.
"The conscience of the rich" my ass!
The elevator was crowded, with these two standing on either side, leaving a gap right in the middle.
During the morning rush, elevators were a long wait. Lin Jianyuan checked the speed of the other elevators, wondering whether to get in.
But then he heard Yu Xiuli press the button and say to Lin Jianyuan, "No room. Wait for the next one."
Lin Jianyuan: "?"
Isn’t there a huge gap between you two?
Is there a ghost standing in the middle?
Lin Jianyuan wasn’t in a hurry to get in the elevator anyway—he was here to resign, so why would he care about being on time?
But before he could say anything, Jiang Chen started guilt-tripping him: "Lin Jianyuan, what are you doing? I said it’s full, didn’t you see? Don’t come in; it’ll exceed the weight limit. Don’t waste everyone’s time! There are so many people here!"
The elevator was shared. During the morning rush hour, it was packed with workers from different companies across various floors.
Upon hearing this, everyone was sparked with discontent.
All eyes turned toward Lin Jianyuan.
Lin Jianyuan: '.'
Fine.
He casually tossed a squeeze toy inside and said calmly, "Then I won’t bother you."
The elevator doors closed in front of him.
Go for it, Time Thief!
Just beyond the doors, the squeeze toy turned its frustration into action: "Roger that~! Hope you enjoy every second that drags like a year, you two~!"
Just as Jiang Chen and Yu Xiuli’s elevator went up, another elevator opened behind Lin Jianyuan.
Ding~!
Turning around, Lin Jianyuan found this elevator totally empty!
Awesome!
Lin Jianyuan happily stepped in and rode it straight up to his company’s floor.
As he exited, he glanced back at the elevator Jiang Chen and Yu Xiuli had taken.
Wow~ it was still stuck around the 5th floor.
Feeling pleased, Lin Jianyuan walked into the office.
As soon as he entered, he saw everyone all set down their breakfast at once and headed his way.
"So, Lin Jianyuan, how are you feeling today?"
"Whoa, you look pretty energetic today. Did you sort things out at home?"
"Bro Yuan, Bro Yuan, have you had breakfast yet?"
The question about breakfast undoubtedly came from the golden retriever-esque nice guy, no doubt.
Lin Jianyuan raised an eyebrow at Pei Shuo: "Yeah, I ate. As I said, no need to bring me breakfast anymore. My wife makes it for me every morning."
Pei Shuo: "..."
Everyone: "..."
Their eyes filled with concern.
Lin Jianyuan knew what they were thinking but couldn’t explain. After all, the Administration Bureau had confidentiality agreements.
Still, the thought of resigning made him a little wistful.
His resignation letter was stashed in his pocket, ready to be thrown right in Jiang Chen and Yu Xiuli’s faces when they arrived.
Satisfying as it may be, he still had to do a proper handover.
Otherwise, why would Lin Jianyuan have told his wife that "being too responsible leads to endless overtime"?
After all, he was that kind of person himself.
He couldn’t just walk away without a care, even if chaos followed.
Especially when the ones caught in the chaos were colleagues who had been so good to him.
Working under Jiang Chen and Yu Xiuli, they had truly weathered hardships together.
So, with mixed emotions, Lin Jianyuan turned on his computer and began drafting the handover document.
Watching Lin Jianyuan cheerfully get to work, everyone exchanged subtle glances.
Pei Shuo held back tears.
Boo-hoo, is another Truman Show day about to begin?
So, did Bro Yuan actually eat breakfast or not?
Did his imaginary partner (himself) really get up sleepwalking in the middle of the night to make him breakfast, or did he just eat thin air??
No matter which it is, it’s just too sad!
Tomorrow, I’ll keep bringing him breakfast and try my best to coax him into eating a few bites!
