Chapter 57: Beautiful Angel Brother
by 橙子不涩Chapter 57 The Handsome Angel Brother
S City First People's Hospital
After dealing with the vermin lurking in the shadows, Qin Fei arrived at the hospital, exhausted.
A wound hid beneath his long sleeve.
It had taken some effort to deal with his enemies today, forcing him to visit his sister only at dawn.
By this time, the hospital was already bustling with patients waiting in line, and the nurses on duty in the wards were busy with their duties.
Qin Fei had assumed his sister would still be asleep, but when he pushed the door open, the little girl was wide awake, hugging a doll and staring at the entrance.
The moment she recognized him, her eyes welled up as her lip trembled, calling out, "Brother..."
Qin Fei hurried over, sat by the bed, and pulled the little girl into his arms, murmuring soothing words, "Don't be afraid, sweetheart. Brother's here."
This was typical of their boss.
Ruthlessly decisive out in the streets, cold and merciless, but when it came to his little sister, he became so gentle it was as if he were a completely different person.
To outsiders might mistake Qin Fei for the girl's father, given their 21-year age gap.
Five years ago, Qin Fei's father had fathered a child, Qin Keer, with another woman, only to die in a car accident shortly after.
Qin Fei's mother had passed away long ago, and he had never experienced much parental love growing up. In a family like the Qins, there was no luxury of sentiment—survival was the first lesson he had to learn.
After his father's death, Qin Fei had initially planned to put Qin Keer up for adoption—he didn’t want to become a father at such a young age.
But just as he was about to hand over the swaddled infant, her chubby little fist clamped onto the necklace around his neck, refusing to let go.
The baby stared at him with eyes strikingly similar to his own, as if filled with boundless curiosity about the world.
Then she giggled with her toothless grin, her smile sweet and bright.
It was at that moment Qin Fei’s heart softened. Over the next five years, he took on the roles of both brother and father, raising his sister with his own hands.
Now five years old, Qin Keer was already wise beyond her years. Unlike most kids her age, she rarely fussed.
But after her near-drowning, she had been terrified. A whole night without seeing her brother had left her so frightened that she could only sleep because of the doll given to her by a kind nurse.
Even then, she slept fitfully in the hospital. After waking up in the middle of the night, Qin Keer had quietly played with her doll, waiting for her brother to take her home.
Now that he was finally here, all her pent-up fear and hurt surged forth like a tide.
"Does your body still hurt anywhere? Did the injection hurt?" Qin Fei asked softly, pointing to the little girl’s hand where the IV had been.
After letting a few tears fall, Qin Keer quickly pulled herself together and shook her head. "It doesn’t hurt. I'm all better now. I want to go home with Brother."
Qin Fei patted her head. "Let's go home right now. This is on me—I shouldn’t have left you alone with the nanny. From now on, I’ll never abandon Keer again."
Qin Keer hugged his neck tightly and lisped, "I don’t blame Brother. It’s the bad people who were too bad! But luckily, the handsome angel brother saved me."
"Handsome angel brother?" Qin Fei was taken aback by her words.
Had it not been the rescue team who saved her? Was there someone else?
If that were the case, the Qins would owe this person a serious debt.
His sister had nearly lost her life in that raging river today.
"Yeah! After Keer fell into the water, no one came to save me. When Keer felt like she was about to die, the pretty angel brother jumped down from the bridge to rescue me."
"The rushing water pulled Keer and the angel brother apart. The angel brother tried really hard to grab Keer, but Keer swallowed a ton of water and then didn’t know anything after that."
The little girl waved her arms excitedly as she described her ordeal.
Maybe when you’re scared, you feel even stronger about the people who help you.
Qin Fei figured the little girl was just exaggerating her savior as an angel and didn’t think much of it.
"Then... after you were admitted to the hospital, did that brother who saved you come to visit? What’s his name? Do you know, Keer?" Qin Fei asked patiently.
Qin Keer shook her head. "Keer just woke up not long ago and doesn’t know if the angel brother came. But when I was almost asleep, I think I heard the nurses and doctors outside the door saying the angel brother was swept away by the water and hasn’t been found yet... They also said lots of grown-ups are looking for him..."
"Brother, do you think the angel brother will be okay? He saved Keer, and Keer hasn’t thanked him yet." The little girl gazed innocently at the man before her, her big eyes blinking.
Qin Fei, however, was deeply shaken by his sister’s words.
When he heard the phrase "swept away by the water," his mind flashed back to the young man he had rescued by the river yesterday.
The boy had an angelic face—being described as an angel wasn’t far off.
That boy was clearly just a kid himself, yet he had bravely jumped into the river to save another child. Qin Fei had to admire him.
If his crew hadn’t seen someone in the water, the boy might have truly died in that river.
The boy had saved his sister, and he had saved the boy. It was all one crazy coincidence—what goes around comes around in the most unexpected way.
Qin Fei smiled and said to Qin Keer, "I know where he is. I'll take you to see him so you can thank him in person, okay?"
Qin Keer always trusted her brother's words implicitly. Her eyes lit up with a smile as she sweetly replied, "Okay."
...
Meanwhile.
After learning that Jian Ye was most likely rescued by the Qin family, Yi Siyu asked Huo Kai for their address.
Though completely baffled, Huo Kai answered truthfully upon seeing Yi Siyu's serious expression.
"If you're asking about Qin Corporation's location, I know that. They're a leading company in City S, nationally ranked as well. But the Qins are set in their ways - generations have refused to relocate, developing solely in City S."
"Who currently heads the Qin family?" Yi Siyu inquired.
"A few years back it was Qin Zhengxiong. After the old man passed away unexpectedly, his son Qin Fei took over the entire corporation."
"Qin Fei..." Yi Siyu murmured the name, rereading the text message on his phone. "Where does Qin Fei live?"
"Look, man... I'm not a census taker. How would I know his address? I don't go digging into people's private lives like Xie Fei with his nosy habits." Huo Kai threw up his hands in resignation.
He couldn't understand why Yi Siyu was so certain Jian Ye was unharmed and with the Qins. Just because of that anonymous text?
Huo Kai thought Yi Siyu was losing it, but dared not say so, worried about setting off his already fragile friend.
Just then, Yi Siyu's phone rang. He answered immediately to hear his second older brother's voice.
"Xiao Yu, no good. I can't trace the IP address of this text at all. First time I've seen a message encrypted so tight even I can't crack it. Weird... Could this really be from Xiao Ye? Or is this just bait to lure you in?"
Yi Sizhe, standing nearby, heard the second brother's words and nodded. "Xiao Yu, don't rush into things. Since you're sure Xiao Ye's with the Qin family and safe, that's already a big improvement. Tracking down the Qin family won't be hard. I've already told Dad—he'll probably get back to us soon."
Yi Siyu stayed silent, not arguing with his elder brother.
Though Jian Ye had said he was safe, the message still felt off.
Yi Siyu couldn't guarantee Jian Ye's location was completely secure.
He knew a bit about the Qin family—their notorious reputation in S City had even reached Yun Jing. Their leader used cutthroat business tactics, nothing like the Yi Corporation's style.
Given the Qin family's shady roots, their ruthless approach made sense—probably habits left over from their underworld days.
...
While Yi Siyu plotted his next move, the kid being held woke up in bed again.
He stretched lazily and sat up. His stomach growled—he was starving.
Jian Ye got up and headed for the door. A Jin, dozing by the entrance, jerked awake. "What're you doing?"
Jian Ye paused. "I'm hungry. You got a kitchen here? I'll cook something myself. You don't need to babysit me—I won't run."
A Jin: "..."
Jian Ye sighed. "I mean what I say. I'll wait for Young Master Qin. Won't make trouble for you—you're just following orders."
As he spoke, Jian Ye switched to his usual playful act, casually chatting up A Jin.
"Man, you guys really have it rough. Pulling all-nighters just to watch me... You're really putting in the work, huh?"
A Jin scratched his head, embarrassed. "I'm happy to serve the Young Master. If not for him, I'd be dead. He saved my life—I'd work myself to the bone for him."
"Oh? So your Young Master's that kind of guy... He saved me too. Guess I owe him the same? Gonna be his ox or horse now?" Jian Ye pouted pitifully.
"Nah, that's just me. I'll stick with him for life. A skinny guy like you? Couldn't help much anyway," A Jin said bluntly.
He looked downright worried Jian Ye might steal his place in the Young Master's heart.
What if the Young Master kept this kid instead?
This kid outclassed him in everything but fighting. Just looking at Jian Ye's face gave A Jin a pang of jealousy.
Then—something stirred outside.
Someone called, "Young Master's back."
A Jin's eyes lit up like a puppy spotting its owner.
Jian Ye barely held back a laugh.
"Jian Ye: This dude's immune to my act. Straight guys are my usual tricks' biggest weakness. Total waste—his whole world's that Young Master."
"System 748: Confirmed. Zero Green Tea Points harvested. Well below host's standard performance."
"Jian Ye: What? None? Gotta find a new target."
Footsteps approached the room. Jian Ye straightened up, ready to turn on the charm.
When he met the sharp gaze of the man entering the room, his body swayed weakly as he dropped to his knees, lifting tear-filled eyes pleadingly. "Could you spare me just a little food? I promise I won’t run away again. Please, let me go… don’t keep me locked up here."
No sooner had he finished his lines than the system screamed in panic.
"System 748: Oh shit! So this Young Master Qin is the actual villain from the novel!"
What?!!!!
"Cough! Cough! Cough… cough, cough…"
Before he could even process the fact that the system had just said "oh shit," Jian Ye was choking on this shocking revelation, coughing violently, as if being tortured.
The young man’s face turned beet red as he clutched his chest, his back bending forward, looking even more fragile and pitiable.
