Chapter 126: I Actually Have Bad Luck
by 橙子不涩Chapter 126: My Luck Has Always Been Terrible
"Oh." Yi Siyu let out a single syllable, then pretended to stay quiet.
After driving for ten minutes without saying a word, Jian Ye was the first to break the silence.
"Alright, alright, don’t sulk. I’ll spill, happy?"
Yi Siyu caved immediately—he knew his husband was too soft-hearted.
Jian Ye glossed over the specifics of how he’d dealt with them, only summarizing the key points.
"Grandpa’s illness was triggered because he overheard their secret. The worsening of his condition later was also my uncle’s doing. And also..."
Jian Ye paused, thinking about how to explain the situation with the body’s original parents.
When he transmigrated into the book, Jian Ye’s parents were already dead. Back then, he’d brushed it off—after all, he’d been alone in his original world too.
But now, knowing that the original host could have had a happy family of three, only for everything to be ruined by those bastards, Jian Ye felt both regret and anger.
"What secret?" Yi Siyu, sensing Jian Ye’s emotions, softened his voice. "No rush. Skip it if it’s too much."
Yi Siyu wasn’t pressing Jian Ye to reveal the Jian family’s affairs. He was just worried that if he lacked information, he wouldn’t be able to protect Jian Ye properly.
If it was something trivial, he could choose not to know. But if it was something that could harm Jian Ye, then he needed to know.
Jian Ye took a breath before speaking. "I accidentally found out the real reason behind my parents’ deaths. Their car accident… wasn’t just an accident."
"They paid someone to make it look like an accident. The crash was so severe that they died on the spot."
"And the ones who planned it all were my uncles. They hated my father..."
Yi Siyu stomped on the brakes, jolting both of them forward before they were thrown back against their seats.
Jian Ye knew the information he’d dropped was heavy, but he hadn’t expected the man beside him to slam the brakes like that—the seatbelt dug into his chest.
"When did you find out? Why didn’t you tell me right away?" Yi Siyu’s chest tightened as he watched Jian Ye recount everything so calmly.
"I—"
Yi Siyu leaned over and pulled Jian Ye into a hug, kissing his earlobe. "I’m sorry. I didn’t notice how you were feeling. I’ve been dropping the ball lately. I understand why you didn’t want to talk about it."
After calming down, Yi Siyu realized that if he were in Jian Ye’s place, he might not have been able to share such a heavy truth immediately either.
Jian Ye shook his head. "Brother Siyu, I’m fine. After dealing with those two yesterday, I already feel much better. As for this matter, I only found out recently myself. I’m still wrapping my head around it and hadn’t found the right time to tell you yet… If you hadn’t asked today, I might’ve needed a few more days to work up the nerve..."
The state he was in last night—he really hadn’t dared to let Yi Siyu see.
It might have freaked Yi Siyu out… Because for a moment, he had genuinely wanted to kill.
"I recorded their conversation. But we still need evidence from back then to make sure they’re buried for good. Last night… was just me getting a head start on payback. Once they’re locked up, I won’t get another chance for revenge."
"I’ll avenge you." Yi Siyu’s gaze darkened, cold and razor-edged.
His ruthless reputation was well-known—everyone understood he was no choirboy. He himself acknowledged that he’d kept his demons chained up, though he’d never opened that door.
...
Back at home, Yi Siyu noticed bruises dusting Jian Ye’s knuckles and the back of his hand.
He took Jian Ye's hand and asked sternly, "Did you get these yesterday?"
Jian Ye stopped hiding it and nodded guiltily. "I kinda lost control when I was hitting them."
Yi Siyu wasn’t entirely sure how Jian Ye, with his slender frame, had managed to take on two people. Seeing the bruises on Jian Ye’s hand, he wanted to check the rest of his body thoroughly.
Jian Ye widened his eyes. "Siyu-ge, I didn’t get hurt, I swear! They were the ones who got beaten up!"
"Hey—stop… stop trying to yank my pants off—"
"Fine, I’ll do it myself—I’ll strip, okay? I’ll show you!"
"Hey!"
A few minutes later, Jian Ye was wrapped tightly in a small blanket, curled into a ball.
He shot the man a glare. "Happy now?"
Yi Siyu’s lips curled into a faint smile. "Baby, you look even paler now."
Jian Ye’s skin was naturally fair and translucent—the kind that wouldn’t tan even in summer. After winter, it had brightened another shade.
The parts usually hidden under clothes were as smooth as jade.
Lately, they’d both been caught up in their own things, and Jian Ye had spent a lot of energy taking care of his grandfather.
Now that he thought about it, it’d been ages since they’d done this.
The mood shifted, tension humming between them.
Neither could say who moved first, but by the time they realized it, they were already kissing, deep and desperate.
With the New Year approaching, the streets of Yunjing were filled with festive cheer. Even their residential complex had been decorated, with small red lanterns hanging from the trees every few meters.
Yunjing winters brought frequent snow. Outside the window, snowflakes drifted down, landing on the floor-to-ceiling glass before melting from the warmth indoors.
At this moment, Jian Ye felt as if he were melting too.
Like snow melting in warm hands, his body went liquid.
Face buried in the silk sheets, sweat soaked into the sheets.
No emotional release could compare to the euphoria of dopamine surging through him. Jian Ye thought to himself—he should have told Yi Siyu sooner.
Somebody had taken part of the burden, leaving him light as air, just like he did now.
Every nerve alight, skin buzzing, he floated in pure bliss.
Last night’s downpour, but today, snow had begun falling again. The unmelted snowflakes weighed down the delicate rose branches in the courtyard, bending them slightly but yet they held firm.
Tear-damp lashes fluttered like butterfly wings. His cheeks burned like sunset clouds.
The whispers of "Ye Bao" reached him through a haze, as if veiled by mist—each whisper sending ripples through him.
Outside, a icy wind rattled the window, shaking the snow from the leaves in a rustling cascade.
Inside, his feet—pale as jade—twitched, toes curling tight.
Snowfall whispered against the glass, mingling with breathless moans—too sweet to bear.
The boy released the silk quilt he had been clutching for so long, exhaustion washing over him as he lay on the crumpled bedding, dazedly poking out the tip of his tongue.
Yi Siyu thought it was cute and leaned in to kiss him again.
"Sleep..." Jian Ye mumbled, without even opening his eyes.
"Clean up first, then sleep. I'll help you."
Jian Ye nodded obediently, not making another sound, his throat raspy again.
Afterward, Yi Siyu meticulously and tenderly cleaned up his precious pup, but the boy had already fallen asleep.
After tucking the other in, Yi Siyu gently closed the door and stepped out to call someone.
"Send some people to keep an eye on those two at the hospital. Update me on anything. Also... dig into the car accident that killed Jian Ye’s parents back then."
...
The next day.
Jian Ye woke up aching all over. He hadn’t slept well recently and planned to spend these days catching up on sleep.
Thinking about the upcoming system punishment, Jian Ye couldn’t resist chatting with it again.
"Jian Ye: From your experience as a system, what kind of punishment should I expect?"
"System 748: To be honest, host, you’re my first host..."
"Jian Ye: Seriously? You seem really experienced. How could I be your first host?"
"System 748: I used to be in a different department. I only became a Green Tea Cultivation System later. To be precise, previous green tea hosts were managed by the last system, but it retired."
"Jian Ye: ..."
"System 748: But I asked around in my network. Other systems said the punishment is most likely solitary confinement—your mind gets locked up, and your body will show signs of sickness."
"Jian Ye: Oh, so basically, I’ll just black out for a while?"
"System 748: The exact duration depends on the main system’s final decision. If it determines your OOC (out-of-character) moment wasn’t too bad, the days may be reduced accordingly."
Jian Ye felt like his character deviation had been pretty severe.
That day, he’d been so out of character that even Jian Zhengqing and Jian Zhenghua were afraid of him.
Jian Ye had a feeling he wouldn’t be let off with just a day or two.
Before that happened, he needed to warn Yi Siyu. If he got confined and Yi Siyu thought he had some terminal illness, it’d be hard to explain.
During the meal, Jian Ye casually brought up some superstitious stuff.
"Just now, I saw a fortune-teller say I’d face some misfortune in the next half-month, but in the end, things will work out fine." Jian Ye spoke while watching Yi Siyu’s reaction.
Seeing the other only smile, "That’s all bullshit. Don’t worry, nothing will happen."
"I know it’s not serious. I just wanted to mention it in case something happens, so you won’t panic." Jian Ye already knew Yi Siyu wouldn’t take it seriously.
But he couldn’t say too much—he just wanted to catch the other’s attention.
"Don’t talk nonsense. My baby has the best luck—bad luck won’t touch you."
"That's because you wear rose-colored glasses when it comes to me," Jian Ye pouted and took a sip of soup. "Actually... I've got terrible luck."
Yi Siyu suddenly recalled all the times Jian Ye had gotten hurt before and went quiet.
On the very first day they officially met, Jian Ye had wound up under his car—extremely dangerous.
Later, when visiting his home, he took a hit to the head. Then, while filming out of town, he almost got himself killed saving someone.
Now that he thought about it, his wife really had a rough go of it.
Even so, Yi Siyu still comforted him, "Bad luck cancels out. You've already endured so much—the future will definitely be smooth and safe."
Jian Ye went quiet and busied himself with eating. He knew that no matter how much he said now, the other wouldn’t let him spiral into worry.
But since he already knew the outcome, Jian Ye could only pray in his heart that the punishment would be shorter.
In a few days, it would be Little New Year, and Yu Xinran had invited them both back to the Yi family for a reunion dinner.
"Since it's the New Year, we should buy some gifts to bring back. I think it shows more sincerity if we pick them ourselves," Jian Ye suggested.
Yi Siyu agreed, so he took his wife to the largest mall in Yunjing.
"Doesn’t it feel nice to experience normal people's lives once in a while? Look, everyone’s preparing for the New Year—it’s so lively!"
"Yeah, it really is lively."
For someone like Yi Siyu, a rich kid, he rarely had the chance to experience this kind of everyday hustle and bustle.
Normally, anything needed for the New Year could just be arranged with Special Assistant Xu—no need to personally visit a supermarket.
But after meeting Jian Ye, he had changed a lot and was more than happy to accompany him in doing these things.
