Chapter 67: The Puppy is Jealous
by 橙子不涩Chapter 67: The Puppy Is Jealous
The phone kept ringing persistently. Jian Ye glanced at the man still diligently waiting in line in the distance and cursed angrily.
"This is all the mess you stirred up! And now I have to see it!"
Fed up, Jian Ye didn’t care anymore and just answered the call.
"Hello, Si Yu?" A gentle, pleasant male voice came through the phone.
Jian Ye pinched his throat and deliberately mimicked a robotic female voice to reply, "Hello, the number you dialed is currently unanswered. Please dial again in your next life... Hello, the number you dialed is currently unanswered. Please dial again in your next life..."
After smoothly delivering the bilingual message, Jian Ye hung up with a smile.
"Bye-bye!"
He thought the other person would call back after being hung up on, but surprisingly, there was no follow-up.
Jian Ye glanced at the phone. "That’s it? You’re giving up? Thought you were *really* into my husband. Pfft! None of you stand a chance."
Meanwhile, Yi Siyu, still waiting in line outside, realized he’d left his phone behind, but it didn’t affect his ice cream purchase. He always kept cash and a credit card in his wallet.
A girl in front of him noticed Yi Siyu standing in line for so long without even looking at his phone and couldn’t help but ask, "Hey, handsome, you a fan of this place’s ice cream too? You’ve been standing here forever."
Yi Siyu, usually reluctant to engage in small talk, suddenly thought of something and replied with an unusually warm attitude, "Nah, it’s for my wife—he’s the one who loves it. I’m buying it for him."
The other girls overheard, and they all covered their mouths in envy.
"Ugh, of course the hot ones are taken!"
"He’s gorgeous *and* spoils his wife? That’s husband material!"
"Ugh, I’m out here crying over strangers’ love lives again. Why can’t I find mine?"
The girl in front was touched by Yi Siyu’s sincerity and offered, "Go ahead of me! Your wife must be waiting for you. I’m not in a hurry."
Once she said this, many other girls followed suit.
Before he knew it, Yi Siyu had jumped from the middle of the line to the front, reaching the counter in just a few minutes.
"Hello, sir! What flavor would you like? Today’s BOGO!" the cashier said politely.
Yi Siyu had paid attention to Jian Ye’s preferences—his husband had a sweet tooth, so any of these flavors would probably suit his taste.
After thinking for a moment, he asked, "Can I get a sample of each? I don’t mind paying."
"Uh... Would you like to just buy one of each flavor?"
Yi Siyu replied, "My wife can’t eat that much. Too much cold stuff upsets his stomach. I just want him to have one."
Someone in the back teased, "Just give him a little of each! This man waited in line just for his husband—cut him some slack!"
"Yeah, yeah! He’s sweet but not *too* sweet. He seriously told the staff not to give too much ice!"
"I’m done for—I’m *so* into guys like this! Sweet, attentive, knows what he wants—total package!"
The cashier laughed at the crowd’s comments and relented. "Alright, I’ll hook you up with a bit of everything. Your husband’s lucky to have you."
Yi Siyu immediately retorted, "No, I'm the lucky one to have him."
The crowd fell silent for a second before erupting into even louder cheers and screams.
"Holy crap! What did I do to deserve this? I’m just here for ice cream, and now I’m witnessing someone else’s romance? Why do I have to hear this sappy stuff?!"
Yi Siyu got exactly what he wanted—an ice cream with a little bit of every flavor, plus a buy-one-get-one-free deal.
He pulled out two red bills from his wallet and handed them over. "Keep the change. Thank you."
Clutching an ice cream in each hand, the man walked straight out of the shop.
The line of onlookers sighed in awe again.
"I thought he was just a regular handsome guy who spoils his wife, but turns out he's also rich and generous!"
"Guys who are hot, loaded, and loyal are practically unicorns these days. His wife must’ve saved a whole country in her past life."
"But the guy said he’s the lucky one to have his wife, which means she must be amazing too."
"His wife’s gotta be a total knockout. What kind of person could catch his eye? I’m so curious."
After buying the ice cream and returning to the car, Jian Ye pointedly ignored him.
Until a colorful ice cream was held right in front of his lips...
The icy sweetness hit his nose instantly—a refreshing blend of various flavors, irresistible, even.
Jian Ye suppressed the urge to bite into it immediately, his throat bobbed as he clenched his jaw, his fair neck betraying his craving.
"Didn’t you say you wanted ice cream? I even asked the staff to give you a little of every flavor. Changed your mind or something?"
Yi Siyu keenly sensed Jian Ye’s displeasure but couldn’t figure out what he’d done wrong. All he could do was try to sweet-talk him.
Jian Ye huffed and looked the other way.
Yi Siyu licked his own ice cream. "It really is delicious. If you don’t want it, I’ll polish off both, then."
Jian Ye bristled, "Who said I don’t want it?!"
Seeing that the tip of one ice cream had already been licked away, Jian Ye leaned in and took a big bite of the other.
Holy hell, this is amazing!
"Give it here!" He channeled all his annoyance into attacking the ice cream as he snatched it and devoured it aggressively.
Yi Siyu had him figured out—he’d made sure Jian Ye could taste all the different flavors.
His irritation thawed a little.
Jian Ye: *Ugh, I’m such a pushover. From now on, if he just hands me an ice cream to coax me, I’ll give in immediately. This is bad.*
System 748: *Host, you literally just said you don’t get mad easily.*
Jian Ye: *Yeah, I don’t get worked up over just anything. But when it’s about him, I lose it.*
System 748: *So what will the host do?*
Jian Ye: *I’ll see what he does. If he makes it up to me, fine.*
As Jian Ye was nearly done with his ice cream, he deliberately reminded, "Your phone was vibrating earlier. Looked like your friend texted you."
Yi Siyu picked up his phone and saw that it was indeed the case.
"Oh, right. He also called you, and I answered it for you." Jian Ye said this while staring at Yi Siyu.
The man didn’t seem angry and replied calmly, "Yeah."
"After answering, I imitated the robotic female voice from the call and then hung up."
"Oh." The man still showed no particular reaction.
"You’re not mad I picked up and hung up on your call?" Jian Ye took the last bite of ice cream into his mouth, cheeks stuffed like a chipmunk’s.
Yi Siyu merely glanced at his phone before putting it away, with no intention of calling back.
He leaned in close, fastening his seatbelt again, stopping just inches away. "Why would I be mad? You’re my husband. You can answer my calls anytime you want."
Jian Ye’s mouth fell open in shock: "..."
This blunt honesty caught him off guard.
"Anything else you want to ask? I’ll tell you everything."
The man’s earnest stare made Jian Ye flush. He knew the lead would turn into a lovesick fool after falling in love, but he never imagined he’d be the one on the receiving end.
This lovesick act was getting out of hand. Jian Ye felt slightly embarrassed about his earlier emotional outburst.
"Who was the one who messaged you?" Jian Ye feigned ignorance, his round eyes, puppy-dog eyes fixed on Yi Siyu.
Yi Siyu was once again charmed by Jian Ye’s adorable expression and smiled. "So that’s why my baby’s sulking?"
Jian Ye’s face flushed. "You said to ask! Spill it!"
"He’s just an old friend, like Xie Fei and the rest. The only difference is he went abroad years ago and ghosted everyone, so we haven’t spoken in a long time."
Jian Ye scoffed internally, *Is he really just like Xie Fei and the others?*
If he didn’t know the plot, he might’ve believed Yi Siyu’s words.
*This is your White Moonlight. How could he be the same as the others?*
"He contacted you again and said he’s coming back to the country. Sorry, I kinda peeked."
"No big deal. Don’t sweat it. I already knew he was returning. So what?" Yi Siyu countered. "You don’t like this childhood friend of mine? But you’ve never even met."
Jian Ye thought, *You two are endgame. Of course I don’t like it.*
But he couldn’t tell Yi Siyu that he’d read about this in a book, nor could he say that Yi Siyu was the top protagonist in the story and that this childhood friend was the bottom protagonist.
He ducked his head, mumbling, "You saved Xie Fei and the others under their real names, so why… why did you save his contact as ‘A Yao’? That’s way too cozy."
Yi Siyu: "?"
Yi Siyu blinked, thrown off, before opening the contact info on WeChat and handing it over.
Jian Ye squinted, confused about what he was doing until he saw that there was no contact name saved—period. And the so-called "A Yao"...
This was actually his WeChat nickname???
Jian Ye: "..."
Yi Siyu noticed the dejected puppy look in the boy's demeanor and promptly took out his phone, changing the nickname "A Yao" to "Zhuang Yao" right before his eyes.
Jian Ye: "........"
"Now it's his real name in the contacts. Is my baby happy now?"
Yi Siyu couldn't understand why his boy was jealous of his childhood friend. Did getting married make him more sensitive to all the male friends around him?
Did he not give him enough reassurance?
Yi Siyu didn’t ask Jian Ye for the reason. Instead, he reflected on himself, thinking about how to make things right with him later.
"Was I... being a little unreasonable?"
The puppy-faced boy raised his round, guilty eyes, looking downright pathetic.
Yi Siyu chuckled and mussed up Jian Ye’s hair. "If this counts as being unreasonable, then please keep doing it."
"Huh?"
The man leaned in and kissed the boy’s cheek. "I love watching my baby get jealous."
Jian Ye’s ears turned beet red.
Baby! He called him "baby," not just "babe"!
What was this man doing? Did he have to come onto him in the car? Couldn’t they just follow traffic rules properly?
He pushed the man’s face away. "J-just drive."
Yi Siyu smiled and handed the remaining half of the ice cream to Jian Ye. "I need to drive now. Can’t finish this. Leaving it for the sulky little one."
In the end, the man still indulged the boy with another half portion of ice cream.
The standards set in the ice cream shop had completely changed once they got back in the car.
As Jian Ye licked the remaining half of the ice cream, his heart was utterly captured by the overbearing CEO.
