Chapter 470 Nanny, Don’t Cry, Eat the Worm
by 煜素"Nurse Jin, Don’t Cry—Eat the Bugs"
"Using the lifeblood of others to nourish yourself—is this what you call establishing your legacy and creating such a vast Cangming Mountain?"
"You are selfish, arrogant, and will go to any lengths to achieve immortality, disregarding the lives of others. Is this what you call greatness?"
"Bai Cangming, you’ve truly wasted all these years!"
These words were shouted at Bai Cangming by Xiaoyue, Ci Xin, and others, including Master Jing'en, who was also furious and scolded him.
The mountain was home to many sects, each specializing in a different discipline, mastering a unique skill or cultivation method.
Yet, those who reached the pinnacle of their training, the top contenders for leadership, often ended up as Bai Cangming’s cauldrons, used in his elixirs.
Xiao Yin and Xiaoyue came to the mountain to uncover Bai Cangming’s deeds and expose his crimes, ensuring all sects knew of his actions and saw the truth before leaving the mountain.
However, Bai Cangming’s reputation was so lofty that everyone believed the masters and senior brothers who reached the highest levels of cultivation had died from losing control of their qi. In their hearts, Master Bai had always been revered as a god.
And so, Bai Cangming maintained his divine presence on the mountain.
Even when Dong Ju and Baiyu went out and spoke a few words to others, those people pressed the issue, demanding that the Master expel them.
In Cangming College, there was no deference to emperors or princesses.
Even when Princess Xiaoyue was on the mountain in the past, no one treated her differently.
Thus, even now, though everyone knew the Emperor of Great Wei had arrived, they kept training or went about their business.
Since ancient times, the imperial court and the martial world have never interfered with each other—this was the norm.
Xiao Yin was an easygoing emperor; his ruthlessness was reserved only for those who harmed the nation in court. So, upon arriving at Cangming Mountain and seeing everyone cultivating happily and contentedly, he too felt joy.
"If Great Wei could truly be like this, with everyone happy and satisfied, it would indeed be wonderful!" Xiao Yin said.
"Mother, let’s go there!" Early in the morning, Ruo Xi Baby pointed to a spot and spoke to her mother.
"Alright!" Her daughter was her world—wherever she wanted to go, Xiaoyue wouldn’t overthink it.
Xiaoyue carried her daughter toward a mountain peak, accompanied by Dong Ju and Nurse Jin. Bai Cangming had disappeared again, leaving only a panda wandering at the entrance.
The panda, following its master’s orders, merely watched Ruo Xi Baby. Seeing she had no intention of descending or running away, it followed quietly.
Cangming Mountain was vast, stretching endlessly, lush with vegetation. Food was never scarce—the bugs were fat, and enormous mountain rats ambled past them.
"Xier, are you here to catch bugs or beasts? There are many spirits that have gained sentience in these mountains!" Xiaoyue said.
*Farming!* Ruo Xi Baby glanced at the endless mountain range and declared, *Delicious!*
"Xier wants to grow crops?" Xiaoyue asked.
"Yes!" Ruo Xi Baby nodded.
"You want these people to farm?" Xiaoyue pressed.
"Yeah!" Ruo Xi Baby nodded again, then sighed deeply as she gazed at the sprawling mountains. *This range stretches endlessly, lying barren. Most peaks are controlled by Cangming College, yet the surrounding villagers live in poverty, lacking food and clothing. Why not farm this land here?*
"Xier, is this really feasible?" Xiaoyue looked at her daughter and realized how different their perspectives were—hers was far bolder!
"Back when I trained here for ten years, I never once thought of farming this land. I only thought the mountain’s game was abundant, but ordinary villagers aren’t hunters—it’s too difficult for them to obtain resources!" Xiaoyue said.
"Clear the land for farming!" Dong Ju muttered beside them. "Not bad at all! The mountain soil is incredibly fertile, it could surely yield plenty of crops. If the villagers below could come up the mountain, they'd never go hungry or cold again!"
"So you see, our Little Princess is truly a divine baby from the heavens, the best baby in the world!" Nurse Jin cradled Xiao Xi'er, praising her endlessly.
Though they had been taken in by the Empress Dowager in their youth and lived comfortably under her care, the hardships they endured before that still weighed heavily on their hearts.
Over the decades, the Great Wei had been through hell and back. First, during the struggle for succession among the previous emperor's heirs, court and country fell into chaos, while neighboring nations hovered like vultures, leaving the people to starve in the streets.
Crushing taxes and endless levies left many to starve to death in the winters.
In recent years, then the old emperor's mind began to slip, and the princes turned on each other again. Eventually, Xiao Yin ascended the throne. Yet, due to the years of decline, the nation's economy remained weak, and the people's lives were especially difficult.
Thus, if the people could be clothed and fed, if they could eat their fill and live better lives, it would truly be a godsend for the people.
These were matters only rulers and those in power could ponder—yet here was a one-year-old girl putting so much thought into them.
This alone moved Nurse Jin to tears.
"Nurse, don't cry!" Ruo Xi Baby reached out with her chubby little hand to wipe Nurse Jin's tears, then offered her a fried bug. "Nurse, eat!"
"Alright, I'll eat. Whatever the Little Princess says is delicious must be truly tasty!" Though Xiao Yin and Xiaoyue had tried the bugs and found them quite palatable, they were not exactly normal food, so Nurse Jin had never dared to taste them before.
But now, with the Little Princess handing them to her, she popped them right in her mouth.
"Mmm, crunchy and delicious!" Nurse Jin exclaimed in delight.
"More!" Seeing another person convinced to try bugs, Xiao Xi'er happily pulled out another handful.
"Little Princess, we could teach the villagers how to roast bugs like this. They’d surely be willing to eat them—they're so tasty!" Nurse Jin suggested.
"Mm!" Ruo Xi Baby nodded in agreement.
This wouldn’t be difficult. After all, they could come and go freely up and down Cangming Mountain.
In Cangming Mountain, Cangming College had a rule: disciples were rarely accepted, and entering the mountain was no easy feat.
Ordinary people couldn’t just wander in—those who did might never reach the sects and could even perish in the wilderness.
But once someone became a student of Cangming College, they were granted freedom to come and go as they pleased.
Yet, by then, most students no longer wished to leave the mountain at will.
