Chapter 63: Women’s Health Issues
by 饭在锅里Chapter 63: Women's Health Issues
As soon as the old party secretary heard this, he rushed out of the yard, urgently asking what had happened.
"Captain Wu was leading us in line at the grain station, behaving properly. But then the people from Stinky Pine Gully arrived. That Liu Yongquan cut in line and went straight ahead of our villagers. When the captain confronted them, they started fighting! The captain sent me back to get reinforcements, fearing we might lose if we're outnumbered and our village will suffer!"
The old party secretary's face darkened immediately. Although he was getting on in years, he never backed down from conflicts between the two villages. He quickly grabbed a shovel from the yard and stormed out angrily:
"Go and get all the men still working in the fields! Damn it, Stinky Pine Gully is getting more and more arrogant. Do they think we have no one in our village?!"
The villager who had come to report the news immediately rushed to the fields to gather people. In no time, a group of men and women, young and old, came back, armed and clamoring, all filled with righteous indignation, ready to follow the old party secretary to the grain station to demand an explanation.
Since arriving at Kaoshan Village, apart from the time she was suspected of being a murderer, Ye Qing had mostly seen the villagers as cheerful and friendly. She had never witnessed such a tense situation before and was immediately made nervous by the atmosphere.
Beside her, Gu Weinan was very excited and had already forgotten about borrowing the bicycle. She dragged Ye Qing along behind the crowd, insisting that they go to the grain station to watch the spectacle.
"This is a big deal for our village! We have to be involved, if only to outnumber Stinky Pine Gully!" Gu Weinan explained as she ran.
Indeed, many people shared her sentiment. Within a short time, everyone in the village had heard the news. Even the elderly, women, and children came out, armed with whatever makeshift weapons they could find—brooms, feather dusters, rolling pins—a vast crowd all heading to lend their support.
The scene was even more exaggerated than a protest march, causing Ye Qing to break out in a cold sweat. It wasn't that she was afraid of a fight, but with so many people, there was a risk of a stampede. If a child were to fall in the crowd, it could lead to a major accident!
Meanwhile, Gu Weinan, the clumsy one, was still energetically talking:
"Master, don't worry. I'm familiar with fighting. When I rush into the chaos, you stay far back so the bastards from Stinky Pine Gully don't accidentally hurt you!"
At some point, Miao Cuilan and several other village women had joined them and seemed to agree with their daughter's words, even adding:
"Yes, in a melee, knives and sticks don’t have eyes. Ye Qing, be very careful not to get hurt."
Ye Qing wasn't worried about that. As a psi-user, although her combat strength wasn't as high as other psi-users, it would still be quite difficult for ordinary people to injure her.
However, seeing the villagers' angry yet united expressions, all directed outward with no one backing down, she became extremely curious:
"Auntie, why are the people here so eager to fight?"
Miao Cuilan and the other women couldn't help but laugh:
"It's not that we like fighting. For personal grudges, we'd be happy to stand by and watch. But our Kaoshan Village has long-standing grievances with Stinky Pine Gully. Those people from the production team there are always causing trouble, at least three or four times a year. Our villagers are used to it by now. Whenever there's a conflict with Stinky Pine Gully, we don't ask questions—we just grab our tools and fight."
Ye Qing couldn't help but twitch at the corners of her mouth.
It seemed the feud between the two production teams went back a long way. No wonder when she and Captain Wu went to rescue someone in Stinky Pine Gully last time, the family of Old Lady Liu had treated her that way. It probably had to do with the old grievances between the two production teams.
However, after she helped deliver Wang Chunhua's baby, Wu Yongbing took the opportunity to stir things up. Many members of Stinky Pine Gully were present at the time. That old fox had enthusiastically spread the word about her, the "miracle doctor" from the city. At the time, Ye Qing thought Wu Yongbing was just promoting the future Kaoshan Village health station. But now, upon further reflection, she realized she had been too simplistic in her thinking.
Wu Yongbing probably also intended to disrupt and weaken the unity of Stinky Pine Gully's members, aiming to undermine their morale from within!
With the establishment of the health station in Kaoshan Village and a skilled female doctor in charge, the villagers of Stinky Pine Gully wouldn't want to go far to seek medical treatment at the commune or even the town.
In this situation, no matter how much resentment Stinky Pine Gully had towards Kaoshan Village, they wouldn't dare push things too far for fear of offending Kaoshan Village. If Wu Yongbing decided to deny them access to the health station, it would be a significant loss for Stinky Pine Gully.
It had to be said that Wu Yongbing's actions were subtle but quite effective.
At least this time at the grain station, when Liu Yongquan and a few cadres deliberately picked a fight and jumped the queue, causing a conflict with Kaoshan Village, many members of the Stinky Pine Gully production team, although standing behind Liu Yongquan, couldn't help but tone down their aggressiveness.
When Ye Qing and her group arrived at the grain station, they saw that the two sides from Kaoshan Village and Stinky Pine Gully were already engaged in a fierce battle. The female comrades weren’t foolish enough to charge in with rolling pins and brooms. Instead, they waited for an opportunity, and as soon as they found an opening, they would rush in to scratch a member of Stinky Pine Gully, focusing on filling in gaps and acting flexibly.
Ye Qing had never seen such a scene before. Even if she wanted to break up the fight, she couldn't find an entry point. Standing on the periphery of the crowd, watching hundreds of people battling, she felt completely disoriented.
Kaoshan Village had a significant advantage, and it looked like they were about to overwhelm the people from Stinky Pine Gully when an unexpected turn occurred. Someone from Stinky Pine Gully had gone to fetch reinforcements, and upon arriving, they pulled out a gun and fired a shot into the air.
The loud gunshot instantly silenced the scene.
The newcomer looked to be in his thirties and wore a red armband. He had a commanding presence and immediately started questioning sternly what was happening.
Wu Yongbing, believing that Kaoshan Village had the moral high ground in this conflict, naturally wanted to explain the situation first and take a favorable position.
However, to Wu Yongbing's surprise, the man with the red armband was clearly biased. After listening to both sides, he sided with Stinky Pine Gully regardless of whether they had cut in line or not.
"Stinky Pine Gully had already sent members to secure positions here earlier. When the grain was delivered, how can that be considered cutting in line? It's you, Kaoshan Village, who deliberately called so many people to fight and escalated the situation. What are you trying to do? Start a rebellion?"
The man with the red armband scolded Wu Yongbing and the other cadres, clearly intending to pin the blame on Kaoshan Village.
The villagers from Kaoshan Village were enraged. Regardless of who was right or wrong, it was Stinky Pine Gully that had called for reinforcements. How could this red armband wearer turn a deaf ear to the truth and immediately side with Stinky Pine Gully?
"This guy is too despicable, clearly favoring the other side!"
"Now that you mention it, I've heard before that the Liu family seems to have connections with both the military farm and the town's revolutionary committee. I'd say this red armband wearer is most likely reinforcement pulled in by Stinky Pine Gully!"
"What if they have connections? Does cutting in line make it right? This is too much to bear!"
"I say, why be afraid? Let's just beat them up. We have so many people in our village. We can't accept this silent loss. If we give in this time, our village will always be one step behind Stinky Pine Gully in the future!"
"Are you crazy? He's a public official, and he has a gun. If he really shoots someone, he won’t be held accountable. He might even turn the tables and pin the blame on our village!"
There were both hot-headed and rational people, but it was clear that everyone was dissatisfied with the man with the red armband.
Wu Yongbing's face didn't look good either. Given the red armband wearer's status and the fact that he had a gun, no matter how angry Wu Yongbing was, he had to hold back for the time being.
When the people from Stinky Pine Gully saw that the red armband wearer had given them the advantage, they immediately perked up, glaring triumphantly at the people from Kaoshan Village. Some of the more obnoxious ones even provoked them while boasting arrogantly:
"Still want to fight? Don't think just because you, Kaoshan Village, are good at fighting, you're invincible. Why don’t you find someone to back you up as well?"
The people from Kaoshan Village were so angry their teeth were grinding, their eyes red and fists clenched. But since Wu Yongbing hadn’t issued the command, they could only swallow their anger.
Just when it seemed that Kaoshan Village would have to take the blame and Wu Yongbing and the other production team cadres would have to write self-criticisms and make public apologies, something unexpected happened. Someone suddenly called out "Ye Qing" uncertainly.
Ye Qing was startled and turned around to see Qin Jiejie, whom she had met at the post office not long ago.
She was immediately delighted and remembered that Qin Jiejie seemed to be the wife of the person in charge of the grain station's acquisition department.
Qin Xiuli was also very happy to see Ye Qing and immediately came over, offering a lot of warm greetings:
"It really is you! Oh my, what a coincidence. I was just about to head to Kaoshan Village to find you!"
"You don't know, the acupuncture you performed worked wonders. Along with the prescription you provided, after taking it for just a few days, I've been sleeping through the night and my complexion has noticeably improved!"
After saying that, the older sister turned back and shouted towards the grain station:
"Old Tian, Old Deng, stop munching on sunflower seeds over there. Come over here quickly. There’s no need to go to Kaoshan Village to find the person you’re looking for. The Ye Qing you’re looking for is right here!"
Ye Qing was taken aback and looked at Qin Xiuli in puzzlement.
Qin Xiuli quickly lowered her voice to explain:
"Old Tian is the spouse of the town revolutionary committee director, and Old Deng is the spouse of the town police station chief. They are both close friends of mine. They both have health issues but haven't found a cure."
"When they heard that the insomnia treatment you gave me was effective, they've been asking me to introduce them so they could see you. I planned to visit Kaoshan Village to find you after finishing my work today, but I didn’t expect to run into you here!"
Ye Qing couldn't help but smile at the overly enthusiastic Qin Jiejie.
What perfect timing! Qin Jiejie had just handed her two valuable connections. If she didn’t seize this opportunity, she’d be a fool.
"Oh, Qin Jiejie, it’s not that I’m unwilling to help. But today is really not convenient. Look at the situation I’m in! We just had a fight with the neighboring Stinky Pine Gully, and we haven’t resolved it yet!"
Qin Xiuli had been busy inside handling grain and had no idea about the fight outside. Since there’s only one grain acquisition station in all of Qingshan Town, they had to collect grain from dozens of production teams within a few days. The acquisition staff were so busy that even Qin Xiuli was pulled in to help by her husband.
Hearing Ye Qing’s words, she finally noticed the crowd gathered and the tense atmosphere. Curious, she asked:
"Why did you fight? What happened?"
Ye Qing shrugged:
"We came to the grain station to deliver the state grain today. Everything was in order, but then the people from Stinky Pine Gully tried to cut in line ahead of our village. Our village cadres argued with them, but the people from Stinky Pine Gully were unreasonable and called in reinforcements to start a fight. Our village cadres aren’t pushovers, so a fight broke out between the two villages. Many people were injured."
Qin Xiuli chuckled:
"Why did you even bother fighting? You should have come to me. I could have asked my husband to send two people to weigh and collect your grain separately. You wouldn’t have had to wait in line."
Ye Qing feigned nervousness:
"That wouldn’t be appropriate. Helping you with medical treatment is something I can do, but our village’s issues shouldn’t cause you trouble, Qin Jiejie. We can’t show favoritism."
Then, with some indignation, Ye Qing continued:
"But some things aren’t just about following the rules, are they? The leader of Stinky Pine Gully brought in someone with a red armband. They scolded our village without understanding the situation and are making our production team cadres write self-criticisms. Isn’t that infuriating?"
As expected, Qin Xiuli was immediately angered. She raised her eyebrows, put her hands on her hips, and asked:
"A red armband? Where did this red armband come from? Since when do they have a say in grain station matters? I need to ask Old Tian what’s going on. Who is so unruly that they dare to meddle with our grain station?"
Just as she was speaking, two middle-aged women came over, still munching on sunflower seeds. Before they could introduce themselves to Ye Qing, they were taken aback by Qin Xiuli’s colorful outburst.
Upon hearing that someone from the revolutionary committee was overstepping by interfering in the grain station’s business, Sister Tian’s expression immediately soured. She looked into the bustling crowd, and her face darkened even more. Clearly, the person with the red armband was someone she knew.
"Tian Peng, what are you doing here? You should be on duty in town, not meddling here!"
Startled, the previously arrogant red armband wearer looked up and saw his elder sister glaring at him with a furious expression. He immediately shrank back like a frightened chick and stammered:
"Sis, how, how did you get here?"
Sister Tian sneered:
"How could I not be here? But what are you doing here, meddling in things that aren’t your concern? Does my husband know you’re here?"
At the mention of her husband, Tian Peng immediately raised his hands in surrender:
"No, no, I was wrong. I’ll leave right away. Please don’t tell my brother-in-law. I don’t want him scolding me again!"
Big Sister Tian's eyes were filled with rage as she grabbed her good-for-nothing brother by the ear, slapping him several times on the head before pressing down her anger and scolding him in a low voice:
"Do you even know what kind of foolish thing you've done this time? Are you brain-dead or something?"
"Just because you're wearing a red armband, you think you're somebody now? And you dare to wave that gun around, showing off? Are you trying to make your brother-in-law’s position even more unstable?"
"Get lost and go back to town to stay out of trouble! Don't meddle in everything!"
Tian Peng still looked somewhat defiant, which made Big Sister Tian grind her teeth in anger:
"Do you know there’s a powerful figure in Kaoshan Village now? Even your brother-in-law would have to behave humbly in front of this person. Yet you dare to take sides and be used as a tool. If this person says something, people from the provincial city might come. Even the county magistrate won't be able to protect you then!"
If Tian Peng had still harbored some defiance before, Big Sister Tian's words now served as a wake-up call.
He shuddered, his face turning tense:
"What do you mean? People from the provincial city are coming? There’s such a powerful figure in Kaoshan Village? Sis, tell me straight, who is this person?"
Big Sister Tian didn’t want to waste her breath on this fool:
"Go ask your brother-in-law. If you cause any more trouble, I’ll have your brother-in-law take that red armband off you!"
Tian Peng, now terrified, realized he had nearly caused a huge problem for his brother-in-law. His attitude changed immediately. Forget about saving face, he started fawning over the Kaoshan Village cadres, while glaring angrily at the Liu family from Stinky Pine Gully. He bluntly reversed his earlier statement and scolded Liu Yongquan and the others severely, demanding that Stinky Pine Gully write a self-criticism and send three more people for the winter river work as punishment for the disturbance.
The sudden change of events caught both Stinky Pine Gully and Kaoshan Village off guard. Although Tian Peng was a coward in front of his sister, when facing these production team members, he put on an official tone with his red armband, scolding them with an air of authority. The cadres from both Stinky Pine Gully and Kaoshan Village obediently listened without daring to talk back.
After handling the matter, Tian Peng didn’t dare to linger at the grain station any longer. He quickly left, afraid something might go wrong and create a mess that would be hard to clean up.
Now it was Kaoshan Village’s turn to gloat. Everyone, no longer feeling wronged or angry, stood with their hands on their hips, grinning triumphantly at Stinky Pine Gully, who was fuming mad. Liu Yongquan and his son, thoroughly humiliated, stormed off in a huff, leaving the production team members and grain behind.
The Kaoshan Village cadres finally felt vindicated. Wu Yongbing and the old party secretary were particularly pleased. After exchanging a glance, they both knew that they owed this success to Ye Qing. Without her, they would have had to swallow their pride in front of Stinky Pine Gully.
"This Ye Qing is truly a treasure. We need to treat this girl well from now on! With her here, our village will stand out in Qingshan Town. Even in the commune, no one would dare to oppose us!" Wu Yongbing reminded the other cadres in a low voice.
The production team cadres were quick to understand:
"We saw what just happened. Ye Qing has good connections with the higher authorities. If she’s willing to step in, there’s nothing that can’t be done. From now on, whatever she asks for, we’ll do it without hesitation if we can."
Some cadres even proposed a new idea:
"Is Ye Qing’s household registration still with the commune’s educated youth office? Maybe we should try to transfer her household registration to our village."
This suggestion left Wu Yongbing stunned.
Another village cadre had a different opinion:
"This solution can only solve the problem temporarily, not permanently. In a few years, when she’s of age and starts looking for a husband, if she marries someone from another village, her household registration will be transferred again. Then we’ll be back to square one."
"I think the best solution is to introduce her to a young man from our village. If she marries into our village, we won’t have to worry about her leaving."
This idea was met with approval from the other cadres, but Wu Yongbing couldn’t help but scold them:
"Stop with these ridiculous ideas. How old do you think Ye Qing is? Sixteen, and you're already thinking about marriage? Would you do this with your own excellent daughter? Look around our village. Who here is worthy of such a fine girl?"
"I’ve seen enough to know that the women in our village all have their own schemes. They’re dreaming of tricking Ye Qing into marrying into their families! But think about it, do you really believe that Ye Qing, who is capable and has her own mind, would fall for these tricks? She's not an ordinary girl who can be easily manipulated."
"Besides, just look around the village. Who here can handle such immense fortune?"
"Right now, it's us who are begging Comrade Ye Qing for help, not the other way around! Don't even think about getting her to marry someone in our village—that’s impossible!"
"The only thing we can do is treat her sincerely and not keep scheming. Otherwise, we'll end up driving her away, and then we’ll be in real trouble!"
The old party secretary immediately nodded in agreement with Wu Yongbing. However, he drew some inspiration from the other cadres' comments and proposed a new idea:
"Marriage is too far in the future, and we can't force it; we have to let things take their natural course. But transferring her household registration is more feasible. Since we’re building a health station anyway, why don’t we allocate a plot of residential land and build her a house next to it?"
"With the residential land and house, her household registration can be transferred out of the educated youth office. We could even promise her that the house and land will always be hers, regardless of whether she marries or not, and no one can take them away!"
"This way, Comrade Ye Qing will feel a stronger sense of belonging to our village. Whether she marries or brings in a husband, our village will always be her home and support."
"Isn’t this a better idea than the foolish suggestion of trying to get her to marry into our village?"
It must be said that the old party secretary’s proposal resonated with the other cadres. Wu Yongbing couldn’t help but give the old party secretary a thumbs-up.
Following this line of thought, Wu Yongbing had another idea but didn’t bring it up just yet. He planned to discuss it with Auntie Murong after they returned to the village.
Meanwhile, Ye Qing had no idea that her timely help to Kaoshan Village had earned her a plot of residential land there.
At the moment, she was busy attending to the three women led by Sister Tian. Seeing that Sister Tian had helped resolve the immediate trouble in Kaoshan Village, Ye Qing’s smile became much more genuine. She decided to prioritize treating these two newcomers instead of heading to the neighboring military farm.
Sister Qin immediately led the women into the grain station and arranged for them to rest in a room at the back. Ye Qing followed with Gu Weinan and Meng Jia.
Most of the women’s ailments were lingering issues from their younger years—some were due to poor postpartum recovery, others from poor hygiene, and still others from long-term emotional suppression and pent-up anger, leading to physiological changes. These cases might seem complex, but in reality, they are quite simple to handle. As long as the conditions haven’t progressed to malignant cancer, they can mostly be treated with acupuncture and herbal medicine.
The issues affecting Sister Tian and Sister Deng were no different. Ye Qing treated them with acupuncture as usual and prescribed different herbal formulas based on their specific conditions.
"Actually, if circumstances allow, the best approach would be for me to provide you with monthly acupuncture sessions and adjust the prescription according to your recovery progress, because as your condition improves, the dosage of the medication needs to be adjusted accordingly."
Ye Qing explained with a smile,
"However, I am quite busy at the moment, so I might not have time to go to town to perform acupuncture for you. At your age, gentle care is more important than anything else. Avoid those random tonics; they treat the symptoms rather than the root cause, and can easily lead to other illnesses."
After the acupuncture, the two elder sisters indeed felt much lighter. They exchanged glances and realized that Ye Qing's remarkable medical skills were not just hearsay. One of them immediately asked,
"I heard that Kaoshan Village is planning to build a health station. Once it's established, will you, Ye Qing, be in charge?"
Ye Qing was taken aback, thinking to herself that Wu Yongbing was really good at spreading the news. The health station wasn't even in the planning stage yet, but the news had already spread throughout Qingshan Town.
It seemed that the Kaoshan Village health station would indeed be busy in the future.
She nodded and said,
"We are currently in the busy farming season, so we haven't had time to focus on building the health station. However, the land plot is already prepared. If we decide to build it, it could be completed in about a fortnight. Once the health station officially opens its doors, you can come directly to the village for medical care."
This news delighted the elder sisters. They had many female friends and relatives suffering from conditions they found embarrassing to discuss. Since Ye Qing specializes in treating such issues and is a female doctor, they would feel comfortable seeking her help. They immediately expressed their eagerness,
"Once the health station is built, we'll come to you first for help. We might even bring others along frequently, so Ye Qing, you can't turn us away."
Ye Qing smiled and said, "Of course not. Healing the sick is a doctor's duty. The key to a harmonious doctor-patient relationship is mutual honesty and trust. Since you trust me so much, I will do my best to treat you."
The elder sisters were very satisfied with Ye Qing as their doctor. Over the years, they had been troubled by female-related illnesses, but there were no reliable doctors in Qingshan Town, so they had been relying on random folk remedies. Now that they had finally met a patient female doctor, they naturally took the opportunity to ask as many questions as possible, hoping to learn all of Ye Qing's knowledge about women's health issues.
Ye Qing had two apprentices with her, so she decided to give them a basic lesson on women's health issues as well. She gradually covered various topics, from menstruation to childbirth and daily gynecological care.
However, this was just an introductory session. Ye Qing was kept in conversation for over an hour, and realizing it was getting late, she finally stood up to leave.
When they were about to leave, the older sisters were reluctant to part and kept insisting that once the health station was built, they would go to Kaoshan Village to consult Ye Qing whenever they had time.
After this lesson, both Gu Weinan and Meng Jia seemed to have gained something. Ye Qing noticed that the two were lost in thought as they walked along and couldn't help but ask out of curiosity what they were pondering about.
To her surprise, the two had completely different focuses.
"Master, you specifically mentioned that mutual honesty and trust are prerequisites for harmonious doctor-patient relationships. Does that mean if this isn't achieved, it could lead to doctor-patient conflicts?"
"Some patients, even if the Immortals came down to earth, they can't be saved. But they will definitely feel dissatisfied or even harbor hatred towards the doctor. Wouldn't that lead to them becoming violent or even having murderous intentions?"
"So I think we should focus on mastering your flying needle technique. Even if we can't fully master your medical skills, at the very least, we'll be able to protect ourselves!"
Gu Weinan spoke with utmost seriousness, but Ye Qing felt a wave of disbelief, almost stumbling as she walked.
She hadn't expected that just a casual remark from her would lead Gu Weinan to make such a leap in logic, thinking about doctor-patient relationships.
Doctor-patient relationships are indeed a crucial issue in the future. Every year, numerous violent incidents occur due to this problem. Many experts in the field conduct in-depth research, hoping to learn from these incidents and prevent similar occurrences.
However, given the complexity of human nature, especially when it involves life and death, such violent incidents can never be entirely eliminated.
Looking at Gu Weinan's sturdy build, Ye Qing replied seriously,
"While others worry about doctor-patient conflicts because patients might harm the doctor, I think if you were the doctor, the concern would be for the patient's safety. I'm afraid if the patient is slightly disobedient, you'd lose your temper and beat them up!"
"Don't deny it. Hospitals are full of peculiar patients: the ignorant, the self-proclaimed smart ones, the stubborn, and all kinds of oddballs. With your fiery temper, I believe you'd definitely do that!"
"From this perspective, I think your previous idea of learning to castrate pigs was correct. With your impatient nature, I wouldn't recommend you work in human medicine. Maybe you should stick to castrating pigs!"
This blunt remark left Gu Weinan red-faced and speechless.
Perhaps Ye Qing's critique of Gu Weinan was too sharp, as it even startled Meng Jia. When Ye Qing turned to ask her, she hesitated for a long time before carefully speaking,
"I believe that whether in urban or rural areas, there's insufficient attention given to women's health."
Ye Qing was quite surprised that Meng Jia would approach the issue from this angle, but her eyes lit up with encouragement, nodding for Meng Jia to continue.
Seeing Ye Qing's interest, Meng Jia gained some confidence,
"From what you taught us just now, whether it's me and Gu Weinan or the older sisters, we're actually quite unfamiliar with the common knowledge of physiological hygiene you mentioned, to the point of being clueless."
"This shows that most women are extremely negligent and lacking in knowledge about these health issues. The environment makes it difficult for women to access information about these related topics, and even if they are ill, they're too embarrassed to talk about it. What could have been a minor issue turns into a difficult-to-treat major problem or even a terminal condition due to delayed treatment. I don't think this is a good phenomenon."
"So, I believe we could start by doing some public education in this area, such as holding literacy classes on physiological health specifically for rural women. We could also write articles and submit them to newspapers to see if they get published. Or, we could collaborate with organizations such as the Women's Federation and the Health Bureau to conduct lectures on this common knowledge, encouraging female comrades to pay attention to and value these issues, and to speak up about their illnesses. This is very important."
The more Ye Qing listened, the wider her smile grew, her eyes filled with admiration for Meng Jia.
Sometimes, the environment one grows up in really limits their perspective and scope of thinking. From the reflections on just one lesson, it was clear that Gu Weinan and Meng Jia approached problems very differently. Ye Qing admitted that Gu Weinan had great talent in flying needles, but in other aspects, she still had a significant gap compared to Meng Jia.
Ye Qing smiled and said,
"If you're interested in this topic of women’s health, you could try writing some educational articles first. Once you’re done, show them to me, and if they’re good, I’ll help you find someone to see if they can be published in a newspaper."
Meng Jia’s eyes lit up with excitement at these words.
She immediately grabbed Gu Weinan, saying with great enthusiasm and anticipation, "Then let’s work on this topic together! We’ll definitely do a great job!"
By the time the three of them came out, the hundreds of villagers who had been arguing outside had dispersed. At the grain station warehouse, things were still bustling. The people from Stinky Pine Gully were pushed to the back of the queue, while the cadres from Kaoshan Village were already having the village’s young men push the grain to be weighed.
Perhaps because Sister Qin had already spoken to the grain station procurement officer, the process of submitting the public grain from Kaoshan Village went very smoothly. The procurement officer randomly selected a bag for inspection, went through the motions, and gave them the green light. The weighing process was also smooth, and when they finally received the stamped certificate, the commune members beamed. Even the cadres from the production team heaved a sigh of relief.
Seeing Ye Qing, the officials and villagers couldn't help but smile more warmly. After all, it was clear to everyone that the conflict with Stinky Pine Gully earlier wouldn't have been resolved so easily without Ye Qing stepping in.
Wu Yongbing now looked at Ye Qing like she was his own child. If it weren't for the fact that Ye Qing had no interest in that, he would have loved to disown his disobedient daughter Wu Yueying and officially recognize Ye Qing as his own.
At this moment, Ye Qing looked at Wu Yongbing with sympathetic and pitiful eyes. Thinking about the strange behavior she had detected in Wu Yueying that morning, she could already foresee the turmoil that was about to unfold in the Wu family.
But Ye Qing couldn't bring it up directly. If she only gave vague hints, she feared Wu Yongbing wouldn't get her point.
Having a daughter like this was truly a curse lasting eight generations.
After watching the chaos of the village brawl, it was getting late. The three of them were on their way to the military farm. By coincidence, the production team was delivering grain using an ox cart, and Wu Yongbing quickly asked Wu Cong to drive the cart and offer them a ride on the way.
However, halfway there, Ye Qing could faintly hear faint, intermittent cries of a baby.
