Chapter 300 The Son-in-law Cries at His Mother-in-law’s House
by 饭碗114Chapter 300: The Son-in-Law Cries at His Mother-in-Law’s House
Seeing her aunt’s indifferent attitude, Su An was tempted to give her a thumbs-up.
Back when her aunt got married, her aunt's mother-in-law didn’t like her. Over the years, whether it was villagers, relatives, or even her grandparents, everyone feared her aunt might be driven out.
Unexpectedly, not only did her aunt hold her ground firmly in that household, but she also kept popping out babies one after another.
With her father-in-law, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, two older sisters-in-law, and a slacker of a husband—six people in total—her aunt managed to hold her own against them and even gained the upper hand.
Li Yulan, now older, rarely interfered with the children’s affairs. She sat quietly on the side, occasionally playing with Xiao Wu.
After Wang Yongzheng killed the duck, scalded it, and took it to the well, the house was full of women gossiping about everything imaginable.
Before long, Wang Xiaocui proudly showed off her fitness stirrup leggings.
Tastes change with the times, and the stirrup pants received unanimous praise from Zhang Shuangshuang and Wang Xiaofen, even Li Yulan thought they looked nice.
Wang Xiaocui grinned ear to ear. “I knew you’d like them! I brought back several pairs—one for each of us, in black and red.”
Ten minutes later, four women in tight stirrup pants tumbled about playfully swatting each other's rears.
After fooling around with her daughters, Li Yulan took off her pants. “This pair is for Xiao Mei.”
“These won't stay on my tiny feet. Xiao Mei works hard—since you all have a pair, give her some joy too.”
Wang Xiaocui waved her hand. “Aunt, there’s another pair in my bag. I'd never forget you—this one's specially for you.”
Li Yulan still folded the pants neatly. “Then give her two pairs, so she can give one to Xuanying.”
That evening, the main hall was filled with a large table, and the four sisters sat together—a rare occasion.
Liu Xiaomei also attended. Though she remained quiet, no one took offense at her silence.
After dinner, Liu Xiaomei gave Wang Yongshun a poke, who snapped back to attention. “Oh, right! Everyone’s invited to my place for dinner tomorrow night. Since Big Sis and Little Sis are both back, let’s all gather at my place.”
Wang Xiaocui and Wang Xiaofen exchanged glances. Su An quickly chimed in, “That sounds great! I remember Uncle’s stir-fried spicy rooster was delicious when we were kids. I’ll ask around the village tomorrow morning and get an old rooster.”
Wang Yongshun waved his hands. “No, no, that’s too much—”
Wang Yongzheng immediately added, “Great-Uncle has several big roosters at home. They cock-a-doodle-doo all day long—not just in the morning but at noon too, and they even chase people. It’s so annoying.
Since Big Sis is making money now, she can buy the plumpest one with the all-black tail. That’ll give us some peace and quiet.”
Wang Xiaocui nodded. “Fine, I’ll go ask first thing tomorrow. Even if Great-Uncle refuses to sell, I’ll strong-arm him into selling. They’re disturbing Mom’s sleep.”
Li Yulan pursed her lips, chuckling.
Seeing things had reached this point, Wang Yongshun stopped refusing. Deep down, he knew his siblings were giving him face.
After a good night’s sleep, the next morning, Su An helped her grandmother sun-dry string beans before following her uncle to poke around in the fields.
Right after the meal, her haggard-looking uncle-in-law arrived on his bicycle.
Li Yulan quickly got a neighbor's kid to fetch Wang Xiaofen and her son from the fields.
Hearing their brother-in-law had arrived, Wang Yongzheng and Wang Yongshun also made their way back home.
When Su An and her aunt got home, her uncle was already hugging Grandma and crying.
Seeing this, Wang Xiaofen's face turned bright red with anger. "Snaggletooth, what are you crying for? Do you even have any shame left?"
As Wang Xiaofen rolled up her sleeves and charged at him like a bull, Wang Xiaocui and Zhang Shuangshuang quickly grabbed her and pulled her away.
Wang Yongzheng and Wang Yongshun exchanged glances and hurried inside to calm down their brother-in-law.
Zhou Jiabao was completely wronged, pointing at his neck for his brothers-in-law to see. "Brothers, look—just look! My neck is covered in bloody scratches, and it’s been days, but they still haven’t faded. And this tooth—she hit me with a rolling pin, and now it's loose!"
"She knew my mom was hospitalized, yet she dumped all the kids at home and ran off, saddling everything on me. She’s trying to work me to death!"
The couple shouted their sides of the story, each yelling over the other, until the room erupted into chaos.
Now that she was back at her parents' place, Wang Xiaofen felt even more emboldened. Like a mad bull, she tried to charge again, making Zhou Jiabao squeal in terror.
Wang Xiaocui and Zhang Shuangshuang had no choice but to drag Wang Xiaofen back to the lower house.
At Wang Yongzheng’s place, Zhou Jiabao clutched his brothers-in-law’s hands, sobbing like a child.
"I used to care about saving face, but not anymore. You two tell me—is Wang Xiaofen human at all?"
"Remember last time, after she gave birth to our third kid and came home? Do you know what happened?"
"My mom wanted a grandson—what elderly person doesn’t? She nagged a bit, but as the younger generation, we could’ve just ignored her, right?"
"But no! She took every word to heart. As soon as her confinement ended, she picked a fight with me. I’m a man—I couldn’t fight back, so I had to run, didn’t I? But that time... she kicked me in the balls... boo-hoo-hoo..."
Recalling those unbearable days, Zhou Jiabao couldn’t hold back his sobs. "Do you know? They were black and blue! The doctor said I needed bed rest, like I'd just given birth. But Wang Xiaofen? She started her payback—straight-up payback! Do you know what she did to me?"
"She went to work in my place, leaving me—a sick man—with a newborn, a two-year-old, and a three-year-old at home!"
"I got hurt because she chased and beat me. I thought she’d feel at least a little guilty, show some sympathy. But no! Lying helpless in bed, I felt like the whole world had changed. And then... boo-hoo-hoo..."
"Then, while I couldn’t move, every word out of her mouth was poison. I was still hurting bad, and I couldn’t even get a warm meal. If I complained, she’d argue, throw the past in my face, saying she endured the same during her confinement—my mom’s nagging, no decent food. She said I should just tough it out. This was revenge—pure payback!"
"She saddled me with the kids, went to work, and came home only to mock me."
Zhou Jiabao mimicked Wang Xiaofen’s cutting tone: "'Oh, so your balls got twisted? Stop pretending—are you made of glass? Your mom gave birth to you in the fields and kept working afterward. You just got a little twist—can’t work? Can’t do chores? Too good for this food now? Don’t tell me your precious balls stop you from cooking?'"
"'You lazy bum, doing nothing all day, expecting me to work myself to death and still wait on you when I get home?'"
"'My brother once twisted both his balls and still worked the fields—not as fussy as you!'"
"'What man hasn’t had his balls twisted? Who hasn’t been through this? You’re the only one making a fuss! Don’t tell me a little twist means you can’t even cook?'"
"Boo-hoo-hoo... Big brothers, listen to this—is this something a human would say?"
